View Full Version : Group buy on Mongoose systems!

bren
30-07-2002, 13:01
Ive been chatting to Collins and if I buy in bulk then I can get the 'zorts cheaper. I dont want to sit on a load of system so Id have to have 3 or more buyers to make it worth while.

Ive already got one sale for an S13 so only need two more (S13 systems that is).

The S13 Mongoose systems retail at £327, if you join the group buy then I can do them at £285 :)

If anyone fancies an S14 and S14a group buy then just post your interest here and Ill price them up :)

Anyone interested? I need to conclude the S13 buy quickly as like I say theres one guy waiting already.

I'll be in the market for one either this month or next month cos mine is gonna blow captn, but mine's for an S14... I gather the urgency isn't as great with the S14 system as no-one is waiting ('cept me:) )

cheers

Youre the first interested in an S14 system, so we need a couple more to join the Q ;)

davidra
30-07-2002, 16:50
Would it be rude of me to put a note in the S13 or For Sale sections do you think guys?

bren
31-07-2002, 17:23
Itd be rude for me to do it ;)

Vipers
01-08-2002, 09:31

bren
01-08-2002, 09:40

Alec

I'm definately up for buying a Mongoose system for my S14 asap.

Any idea of how much labour a garage would typically charge to fit one? Also, are any other bits & bobs needed such as gasgets? And how much the nuts & bolts are (the ones that attach the cat section to the rest of the system?).

davidra
01-08-2002, 11:13
So close, 2 of each but we need three of each...

Much appreciated Bren. I hope you manage to sell the remaining exhausts in time to make it worth your while...:)

bren
02-08-2002, 10:32
Ive just got off the phone to Collins about buying a batch of S14s and they are now uncertain of the discount on the S13 systems so I may have some battling to do. I think they might have cocked up with the quote they gave me

I wont mess you lot about though, regardless of what Collins say to me ;)

bren
02-08-2002, 10:42
Big up to Collins, theyve stuck by their quote :)

davidra
02-08-2002, 10:43

Rob200SX

davidra
02-08-2002, 14:55
Rob, what is involved in fitting the exhaust? Any special tools req'd?

Are the nuts on the turbo downpipe a b*tch to undo (cos they get so hot)?

I once broke a wrench removing an exhaust..

Rob200SX
02-08-2002, 15:17
trying to find that out now daividra, although i've been told if one of the turbo pipe bolts shears off, that i'm likely to be swearing for england

I'd better take some rubber coated spanners in case it all goes wrong, then i can chuck 'em around lots :D

U working today? I can call with credit card now, I take it that would be monday/tuesday getting here?

bren
03-08-2002, 12:43
Sorry, I should have said next working day assuming theyve sorted the rear box straps out. They said they werent a problem so it should still be next day :) That means youd get it on Tuesday, its next working day and the couriers tend not to operate on Sat and Sun :)

Im going to play with my remote car soon so give me a shout now if you want to order :)

Alec
03-08-2002, 21:53
Would you be able to pm me when my system has been dispatched and when you expect it to arrive?
It's just that my backbox lost the will to live today so my cars sounding like a tank!

I've booked a spot first thing this friday with my garage to have the zorst fitted.
If there are likely to be any problems having the zorst delivered before then could you let me know so I can rearrange the appointment?

Cheers,

Alec

bren
05-08-2002, 16:46
None of the systems have left Collins yet Im afraid :(

They are expecting a shipment tommorrow with the back box straps tommorrow so all the S13 exhausts will go tommorrow. They recieved a shipment of S14 systems today but havent had chance to sort it out yet so yours will be sent tommorrow Alec.

My apologies for the delay :)

Alec
05-08-2002, 16:49
As I can't have it fitted before Friday morning it's no problem.

Would be grateful if you could keep me updated.

Cheers.

bren
05-08-2002, 16:54

05-08-2002, 16:59
And when would the next round of buying be?!? :D

Damn you for doing this now, when I have tax discs and worn valves to buy!

Will this be a regular event Bren?

bren
05-08-2002, 17:02
Itll be regular if theres demand ;) Ive one left if you want it ;) :)

Will Taylor
05-08-2002, 17:42
DOH! Dont say that sort of thing man!

Thanks, but I have to sort my car, before spending on shiny things - next month I reckon though... :D

bren
05-08-2002, 17:44
LOL, sorry, dont mean to tempt you. *mmm, mandrel bent, stainless, steel, twin 3.5" tail pips, nice and noisy* LOL ;) :D

Will Taylor
05-08-2002, 18:37
It is very tempting, but if it's a choice of a nice shiny exhaust, or starting my car and having it fire on all cylinders, not sound like a diesl, and not shaking like a motherfokker, I have to be the wise man - so stay away, you evil pusher!

I'll find out how much it's gonna be to repair my car, and decide whether to put a deposit in :D

Yak
05-08-2002, 20:20
YAY!

Count me in! Just upped the limit on me CC and phoned insurance comp ta find out if I could aford to run a modded car.... and I can :D

Dont tell me I've missed the boat  please

Just an extra 35 for the last 2 month of the policy with adding a K&N too. I though running a modded car was ridiculas but that's actualy afordable.

BTW what sorta extra BHP would i get on a K&N + Mongoose?

AL
05-08-2002, 20:34
aww come on, there must be one more S14 owner out there who wants a new exhaust!:(

Whats it gonna cost me if I want one now, Bren? (IF, he says:rolleyes: :D )

bren
06-08-2002, 08:17
Will,

Im only messing, of course youve gto to get the car running properly first :)

Woooo hoooooo fitted it yesterday, its great. I got wheel spin changing from 2nd to 3rd! not had that before. The whole car feels more responsive. The turbo spools up quicker too :D

It really pops a lot!!! Just need a chip and up the boost a bit more for flames :D:D:D:D:D (hopefully)

Yak
12-08-2002, 10:15
FECK ME thats loud.

I didnt expect it ta make that much diffrence... Tis a bit drowny on the run back up from Luton to Huddersfield after I got it fitted but once on a nice twisty bit of road... well ya can guess. :D Need to find some sound proffing stuff for motorway driving.

BTW is it normal for them to start missing a little when going down the rev reange? i.e. changing gear?

Had to re-enginear the rear strap a bit due to some dodgy welding but all seams furmly in place now. Whish I had taken off the towing eye at the same time tough

Only thing ta rain on my parade is after playing with it in the rain last night it may have started to smoke a little... bugger.

Now where's those posts about oneway vales, chatch tanks and the like... before I comdem my turbo...

David_S14
12-08-2002, 10:23
Had a goose on mine before I went Jap and they are loud when you first put them on but mellow a bit after the first few weeks.

Yak
12-08-2002, 11:49
So is the missing/popping on gear change / rev down normal for fitting a mongoose + K&N?

RichSeal
12-08-2002, 12:04
Yep and don't it sound great :D I've been trying to get mine to pop deliberatley, its not too difficult.

The car really turns heads now, combine a great zorst note with the DV shooting off every few seconds, and everyone I go past has a look :D

RichSeal
12-08-2002, 12:34
Just looking at brens website, at the S13 ss front pipe, that replaces the cat. Goes from the turbo down pipe.

I thought the goose did that already, if so does this replace the CAT?

yes, i am quite confident it does!

Yak
12-08-2002, 13:06
Yep the Mongoose gets rid of the CAT. Its the first small box like thing on the standard exhust with all the heat shealding around it ta keep it hot. I take it you went there when they took ya old one off.

The S13 downpipe is for the HKS et all systems that are only CAT back coz they come from japan where they need to keep their CATs.

Yak
13-08-2002, 15:31
Did any of you Mongoose group buy ladds suffer from smokie idle after fitting it? Or is it just me.

Not looking forward to digging through a srappy for a one way valve.. been years sinse I did that and I dont get the time

andypat
13-08-2002, 20:05
Ive noticed that since i put the zorst on i get a lot of condensation from it is this normal

bren
13-08-2002, 20:12
Yak,

Sounds like oils being draw past the turbo oil seals because of the drop in back pressure.

Andy,

You want to see what my Cossy puts out on a winter morning!! Clouds and clouds of steam for ages. Thats just what you get with a large bore stainless system but dont ask me why!

Yak
13-08-2002, 22:14
Sounds like oils being draw past the turbo oil seals because of the drop in back pressure.

Aye. that's why Im gonna try the onway valve ta lower the crankcase presure on idle. Guess ya dont stock them as they aint even a stock item :)

If that dont work i guess tis new turbo time :( arse. You've already got ll me money bren ... :)

Still wheel spin in third = smile that needs surgry ta remove :D It picks up so quickly now tis hard not to slide it on all the hairpins ya get up here. Just dont brake... please...

Rob200SX
13-08-2002, 22:28
Mine smoked hard after fitting the exhaust, but this is down to condensation in the exhaust

Took it for a blast down the motorway after fitting it, cleared up after about 5 minutes and no more smoke since

Yak
13-08-2002, 22:39
Aye, mine smoked a bit after fitted. I guess due to packing grease and sealer. Fortunatly it all burned off but the time I went for my MOT 20min later :)

I get it randomly at idle, more often if i've just booting it before idleing. now where is my local scrapy for a oneway valve

davidra
19-08-2002, 00:01
Finally fitted the zorst - very loud :) Ned bigger speakers for the stereo cos I can't hear the bass anymore!

However, I have a few questiuons about the fitting that you guys may be able to answer:

1) The mounting points at the back have flat err ?? "poles" that you hook the rubber bits to. But they aren't bent - what keeps the rubber bits from sliding off?

2) The "pole" /hook that is nearest the front, attached to the small midsection tube, seems to end too far from the rubber mounting point for the rubber to sit straight - did anyone else find this?

3) How much jointing paste did people use?

Sorry for all the questions, haven't fitted an exhaust before!

cheers
dave
