View Full Version : Engine Crane
i remember there was some talk a while back about someone buying an engine hoist and renting it out? did this ever happen?
if so, can i rent it?
i've got a big job on next weekend(s), going to be removing and re-fitting 2 engines. :)

Yeah me and Buffy were on about it. The money ive spent on renting one in the last few weeks i could have bought one myself :wack:
Would make sense for 10 of us to put £20 each into kitty so we can get us a welsh sxoc engine crane and maybe and engine stand too.

Hey its not clapped out! Don't remember you lot pulling all that much distance on me. Actually with the rocker cover off - it is impressiveley clean up top when you consider how many miles its done. Deffo been looked after oil change wise methinks :)

LOL the Skyline is almost there allready ;) I want spot on 400 out of the SR20 so that I can get close to 666bhp/tonne... you know for that added evilness!
Eeek! It will be so powerfull the world will spin faster when you accelerate! :o
You running it at standard power for a while or you going for big power straight away? The turbo i've got for you isnt capable of flopwing more than 300bhp really (unless you want to lubricate the valves with bits of garrett) :wack:

Nah not aiming for 400 straight away. I'm gonna drop it in as is to begin with so that I can jig everything up and build the chassis around the engine and box. I'll run it for a month or so without really doing much to it then I'll take it out again and do a rebuild and maybe then I'll pop some new internals into it and maybe source me a bigger turbo :)
But yeh it's gonna have to be powerful... I need to turn heads at TOTB! :P
Cool
I'll be your support crew for the next TOTB (as long as i can drive the R32 full of tools) :D

i think its a good idea. where would we store one though? i was going to buy one myself a couple of years ago untill my old man pointed out we had no-where to keep it. :(
what has the money the Welsh region was given for the SXOC been spent on? maybe we could subsidise the cost of an engine crane a bit?
Chris has used our £300 on 24 packs of carling
Fair play i can think of alot worse ways to spend it :wack:

THats not what the money is for.
And tbh what use would that be to u?
Cos if SXOC was to buy it, then it would be for SXOC members anyway

yeah, it'd be for SXOC members anyway? i don't see your point?
not being funny but i've been a member for a year and we've not spent the money on anything AFAIK?
just a suggestion, i don't see any RR days like the other sections have planned? what else is it going to be spent on?
only a suggestion, no harm... :indiff:
if anyone wants to get one i'll put £40 in towards it. i'll have to pay that much if i rent one anyway.

Why does it say non-member under your name for??
My point was simply that it would be for SXOC members if it was bought by SXOC, and ur tag says "non-member" so it would'nt be available for you to use:)
Why does it say non-member under your name for??
because i don't see any real reason to renew. the forum is good for information but all that comes for free anyhow.
i'm going to be sorted for an engine crane now anyway. a guy a work with has a brother in the trade that can get a good Sealey one for £105. bargin.

That's the sort of attitude that has got you a bad name on here mate, and why not many people respond to your post's, unless it's to take the piss. I try to be impartial to any conflict on here as I don't spend as much time helping the boys out and being part of the SW SXOC as I would like, due to work commitments,
and the club and it's members are better off without you!!
p.s. My membership was renewed via our mod last night :) ;)
edited AGAIN cos no he doesnt chris and that sort of thing doesnt help :indiff:

from what i read ecsy doesnt want to renew, and alot of folk dont want him to renew, so the problem is solved.
no need for a slagging match.

I've found escy very helpfull and haven't got a problem with him for the record

Theres nothing wrong with escy at all. Hes a nice enough lad. He made a mistake, thats gone and forgot about.
I agree that £15 to renew his membership is nothing, especially as it will help the club grow, that in turn will benefit all of us.
I also think that to use the site you should be made to pay a fee, especially people who use it as an oulet just to sell goods.
As for saying that hes not wanted here and the clubwould be better off without him, well I wouldnt agree

Paul and Lee
as far as a club goes i feel the SXOC leaves alot to be desired. its not the SXOC as a whole, but the Welsh section isn't very good. other sections seem to do all sorts of good fun stuff which is how a car club should be. i've been along to a fair few new Mini club events (a few runs, meal, etc) and they are much better orgainised. thats a club thats got half the member of the welsh section and have been going for about 6 months at the most.
the Welsh section has a meet once a month that consists of standing around parked cars talking. it gets boring after a while which i'm sure most people will agree with.
the area reps don't seem to want to do anything. we supposidly have £300 in a kitty to go towards events and nothing gets organised through them. what happened to the money from past years?
it seems like everything is left upto members to suggest and organise rather than the reps. Ade did the karting, Lee is doing the paintball (everyone would aim for me if i attended  ), Gav200, a non-member went to the effort of sorting out a BBQ. what have the area reps sorted out?
its not a case of being too tight to pay the £15, its just i don't feel like there is much of a local scene. there is one clique that do everything together/for each other and that seems to be all that happens in the welsh section.
i might move down to Cornwall at some point so i'll join then if that section is a bit more active.
SW-CC or Welsh Performance Car Club seem better, they put on track days and RR days. i might give them a try instead.
this is not a dig at the local members, i've liked everyone who i've met, not had a problem with anyone (with one exception - Chris). :(
Wookie, what have i ever done to you to make you say stuff like that about me? spoke to you before and you seemed ok, if i'm such a problem to you why didn't you say something to me at a meet?

I think the biggest problem you have is your Internet etiquette mate.
People pick up on certain things and then you get stuck with them.
The biggest one that sticks in my memory is your obsession with anything ford over your Nissan !
Granted you have a point on the activity of the welsh section But there are not that many of us and im always busy when they do plan something lol
can I join this clique please

i was on a wind up at Billing last year. :p :D that doesn't count. :smash:
i can now get insured on an RST or 4x4 RS2000 and instead i bought another 200sx. i'm hooked on 200sx's for the time being.
as for internet etiquette, i agree i've done stupid things (posting up racing video's, etc). on the other side of the coin, i don't have a go at anyone (thats not had a go at me 1st) or try to be-little people, be abusive, etc.
can I join this clique please
i suppose another word for the clique could be team stealth. a club within a club is well :ghey:
we are trying to do something within the club (sxoc not just in the Welsh section) its not even got off the ground yet and you call it :ghey:

I agree that standing in a car park talking about shit all is boring
And I agree that the section is a bit clique, but its getting better, we need to infiltrate the clique. The main brains are there and we need their knowledge ;) Plus the clique as you call them are all really good friends off the site as well. So dont take it personally
I bought my 200 because of this site. I dont think I'd seen 200 before looking on here. This is my first car forum and I think its pretty good. Technical info is awsome, even if its stupid questions you usely get a response. So the club on a whole is top class.
The trouble with the Welsh section is the catchment area. Theres members in Swansea, Cardiff, Pontypool, Aberdare, Merthyr and further afield. Theres a big distance between members which makes the logistics of holding meets and events difficult.
The other difficulty is different circumstances like financial strains (especially with me) Kids, wifes, animals, houses. Its hard to juggle work and the missus and other things without swanning off to piss about with cars.
You live with your parents and are pretty much a free agent to come and go as you please.
Theres so many factors to think about when organising events, and its difficullt to juggle everything to please everyone.
Another thing to think about is the reps themselves. They might have to work constantly/dodgy hours and dont have the time to organise things as well as moderate on the club, fix there own cars and other peoples.
Maybe we could meet up down Cardiff on a Friday night in the middle of the month. Go for a drive, not a flat out drive, just a mooch about look at the birds ;) We can set up a time and place on here. Just an idea

Unfortunately not much gets organised down in Cornwall, as Nicely and I are miles away, although the local members do a great job where they can
And that's the point, the club isn't about reps, it's about members. Reps will help organise things wher members request something but we're not here to hold your hand/wipe your arse and we can't second guess what everyone wants to do all year round.
IMO Jezz and Chris do at least as much, if not more, than any other reps on the board for their local members. I have been to Welsh meets and they are well organised and friendly and you have access to a wealth of practical knowledge and help that members here in the South West would kill for
No one minds members offering constructive criticism, it's what helps reps know what people want but have a think about what you're saying and you may understand where Wookie's rant came from

Which is exactly what i said
And i am more than grateful to Buffy and Chris for there help as they know. Buffy I regard as one of the soundest Blokes ive met and not in a :ghey: way. Im also grateful to Ade76(deceased), Unipscycho, escy, Dave from torqueshop for there help in getting my new car straight and every other member on this site for the wealth of knowledge and practical help ive recieved.
I tried to explain that but obviously in the wrong way. Its not whying, Im explaining to Escy not to take everything personally. And try to muck in.
Ive tried my hardest to organise an event like paintballing/rolling road to get evryone to join in but no-one gives a rats ass. Any other suggestions Tone??

Have to say i agree tone........... the so called clique have sorted me out on more times than i care to remember !! :notworthy especially buffy who imo is amazing and will drop what he is doing to help anyone !! :notworthy the clique can very very sarchastic but dont take it personal dude thats just the way they are, they do it to everyone like chris dropping an exhaust on someones head !! :wack:  and if you notice the clique probably have 2-3 of the best/fastestest cars on here to they obviously know what they are doing so a big thumbs up from me !!  :notworthy

i made a suggestion with this thread that maybe we should buy and engine crane together and maybe use a % of the clubs money to subsidise it. getting an engine crane was something a fair few of us were talking about before. it was, what i thought a decent suggestion. neither area reps commented on my suggestion. surely they should have said good idea/bad idea or maybe put a pole up?
i was a member at the time when i suggested it too.
maybe they didnt have an opinion on it.
Maybe it didnt really affect them as they have their own engine lifts.
Maybe they were waiting to see the reaction of all the welsh members before stating their own opinions on it/making a decision.
As Jeff says we are not here to wipe ur arses for u. :indiff:
and to clear this up, mid way through this year is the first time we have talked about allocating funds to an area, so in effect there is at least 6 months left of the year it was proposed in, there was never funds allocated before, so stop going on as if the welsh reps have been stiffing the welsh section.
Hey Tony, can i be an adopted member of the "clique" sounds
