View Full Version : Vid - Dont mess with the big cat - Our Jag vs Lotus and Porshe @ Croft yesterday

We took the Jag to Croft Park yesterday for a trackday. We had a great fun tussel with a Porsche. And yes the guy knew how to drive, as you see in the vid his lines were pretty much impecable so this isnt your average easy kill due to munster driver who doesnt know the steering wheel from the exhaust

The Lotus was just an annoyance that was really holding us us.

The vid might not look too fast because the Jags so quiet and smooth but Im at 95% here and this is a 370bhp car on 255s all round so we are fair moving. I might have been able to eek out a little more speed by taking some more risks but I couldnt have braked any harder as the brakes were struggling anyway. I was trying hard as indicated by the complete lack of dialog ;)

It was a blast though, great fun and the look on the Porsche drivers face (left hand drive) at the end couldnt have showed more confusion and suprise had he just seen a cat bark! Proper wtf is going on here look as the big blue boat floated past! :D :D :D :notworthy

The Porsche guys came over later for a chat and I told them Id be putting a vid on here so if youve found this then hello Mr Porshce and friend, that tussel was the highlight of the day. Its just a shame the Jags pads were knackered or we could have gone again :( :)

Maybe now youll take more heed of my praise of the Jags on track ability Kev :p

This is the Jag in question parked in a misty Nurburgring carpark:

Porker seemed to have more grunt than your jag on the straights ?

bren
18-09-2005, 10:33
The Porsche was marginally quicker but there wasnt a huge amount in it :)

I dont normally run with the radio on but you know, its got to be done in the Jag, radio 4 makes it go faster ;) Its not like i had to listen for the shift points :)

ha ha - thats hilarious. Barely hear the engine, radio 4 coming through nice and clear and keeping with the porsche. Funny :)

There was another Elise in front of me in the same session and although I couldnt gain on it it wasnt pulling away either. Turns out it was running Toyo 888 track tyres. And the Jag still managed to match its pace

Im just trying to find ome used Brembos for it now as a decent set of brakes would do wonders :)

:notworthy fantastic vid

superb skills to overcome the lack of noise/speed perception. radio4 is a great touch :)

enjoyed that  looks like you had more mid-corner speed whereas he had the advantage pulling out of the bends.
looked like a good flowing circuit as well
just saw your vid jez(m3 csl), looks like you were off the gas more than you were on :D
i gotta get myself on track :)

The Porsche was better out of the corners

I really want to get one of the later versions (2003-) as they were built with a really stiff aluminium chassis, gained rear space, lost 250 kilo and gained a few ponies. Clarkson took Tiff on in one. Tiff was in an M5, Clarkson in the Jag. Tiff couldnt shake Clarkson at all and considering how good the M5 is and that Tiffs a race driver its quite a suprise to find out the the later Jag is a match  :notworthy

Cant find any used Brembos :(

what makes you use the Jag over your S13 track car?

Vez
18-09-2005, 15:57
Maybe as the S13 is presently broke :wack:

bren
18-09-2005, 16:18
Aye, we have a pile of new goodies for it, just need to bolt them on. We have new turbo, plenum, throttle body, head gasket, head stud and nuts, race fuel etc :)

I think "track car" is only used as a figure of speech where Bren's S13 is concerned ;) :D

Great Vid Bren, and good lines as you say from both of you.

Lol :p

I know what youre saying though, I am starting to get p1ssed off with not having a 200 ready to go because we are always trying new parts. Its starting to really get on my t1ts.

Its like with this latest batch of mods. Im thinking of staying with the same turbo and just going with the pleunum, throttle body and arp stud and nuts because I really cant be bothered with the problems the new turbos going to cause, its just going to make the car more of a pig.

We now have to do a load more work to the S14 because the latest parts we fitted turn out not to be suitable so the cars still not ready to run and its going to take me anothger fair few hours to get it sorted :(

Caliper relocation brakets

Have you still not got any made up for those Jag Brembo's onto your S14 Phil?? come on get a move on youve had them 3 months :smash:

archenemy.co.uk
20-09-2005, 09:38
The things stopping me are money mostly and size

Those fronts are nearly 12" long, even the backs at 9" are larger than a std caliper and larger than the GTSt ones I have by about an inch

I have some racing dot4 fluid for now that should cure the fade problem - apparently silicone fluid compresses at a certain temp - giving the nightmare foot to the floor experience I had at castle Combe :(

Oh yeah and I need to sort out my splits which should give me extra room before I work out the max disk size

great vid. the radio 4 bit was brilliant.
i dont think that was a 964 though, looked like an older 3.2

love the vid, nice one with the radio!

Looked on the trader, assuming that the jag is a XJR, 1995's go for around £6,000-£7,000 with 98's for around £7,500+ which is probably the cheapest way to get 370bhp!!

SM
28-09-2005, 13:20
Nah, a £3500 S14 and load of mods will match that power, and beat that power/weight.

I'm not saying they'll fit but looks like the stuff

bren
10-10-2005, 15:51
Theres only one type of XJR Brembos so they must be the right ones. Im just trying to get a price on the discs and pads :)

archenemy.co.uk
10-10-2005, 15:54
I'd be interested to know the price of the pads too, and if pads for other Brembo Calipers fit i.e. availability of upgraded pads for other cars

Calipers for sale on Ebay look like mine but look to be radial mounted with a mounting bracket already bolted on  The ones I have the mount points are part of the casting

Your jag a slushmatic? If so, how did you make sure it was in the right gear round the corners, not changing mid corner etc? I couldn;t see your hand leave the steering wheel there

bren
24-10-2005, 17:07
I won the calipers and ahve got discs and pads to suit. Im not sure on the rrp for the pads as I had to have them so ordered them regardless. I believe they were around £140ish for DS2500s. Ive since found some Padgid blues and have rodered some as I hear theyre superb. Pricey but excellent apparently.

That means Ill be selling on the DS2500s and will do them aty cost if theyre of interest :)

The Jag is an auto. I had problems with the box at Castle Combe and round the Nurburgring but it was fine at Croft Park for some reason :)

Ive sorted some big ass 4 pot Brembos for it now so itll soon be even more fo a weapon :D

You have no idea how hard it is for me not to rip the exhaust off and replace it with something free flowing. Im torn between power and noise
