wifes gettin a lada niva 4wd. I know they are like tanks but they are so cheap and cheap insurance etc it`d be buttons to run.
Anybody any experience with them.
And before you say how awful they are i know!
I`ve driven one and its rough and heavy but what about reliability. Pretty tough arent they. Will it be a reliable runner.
She couldnt be happier as its her first vehicle so it beats the train by a mile.
Ya can pick em up with 30,000 miles for £500 !MOT and TAX!
Anyone any experiences?
I know this will sound mental but....Watch where you park it The Lada brand is popular with theives cos they export them to third world countries
I jest you not

Don't knock em.
The reason why the Russians like em, is that they can stand up to their sh!tty roads compared with the Audis BMWs etc that knacker themselves as soon as you hit a Russian pothole.
Used to knock about in one of these on my parents farm in France when I was a teenager. Absolutely fantastic piece of kit, that never EVER got stuck. We used to use it to get the Land Rover out, which got stuck all the time.
It was also the first car that I got layed in :D :D :D

ah well there we go, a definite recommendation!
I seem to remember someone rolled one three times down a bank and drove off after cleaning the windscreen wipers of the mud...

They've got a really good reputation as off-roaders and are dead cheap to fix and run.
I nearly bought one as my first car but the brakes were fecked so I got an Opel Manta GTE instead. That only had a fuked engine, gearbox, suspension and rear subframe.
Basically, anyone who puts you down for having a Lada Niva is an ignorant tw@T.......so there.
i tried to talk the bird into having one last year, it was a real nice one, no rust 30k full history and 1 owner, it was rather overpriced but it came down to 1000 in the end, she wouldnt have it tho. bit tacky inside but what do you want for that sort of money, as said before there built to withstand russian winters (well at least one). the later ones even had injection.
Don't knock em.
Cos they'll fall apart:p

probably the most thrust that motor ever had:p
not very helpful I know :o
They're great.
BUT
The engine is a bag of sh1te that hates any kind of abuse. Mine smoked like crazy after only 40k.
The spare wheel in the engine bay is a pain in the butt, especially when you need to get to the battery to jump start it and it's raining.....
The sills rust faster than you can weld them.
Make sure all the gears are present and correct. I've heard of fith going missing before now.
The diff lock selector can be a bitch to move if it hasn't been used for a while, and they usually haven't 'cos you don't often need it.
And your GF will start walking in right hand circles once her left leg is capable of living with the clutch pedal.:p
Other than that they're a scream. Run on anything (20mpg though :( ), go anywhere, pull anything.
Just don't expect it to go round corners......
And when you're bored, a Fiat twin-cam drops straight in. Supercharged, turbocharged, the choice is yours.
