View Full Version : using 2 cd changers

The standard head unit in my S14a is supposed to be able to control 2 CD changers. Or that's what it says in the instruction book.
As luck would have it, I've got 2 changers, one out of my last car (S14) before the insurance company got their grubby paws on it. They're slightly different, the S14 one has "custom file" on it so you can name your CDs, the S14a seems to be a lower model without custom file, and isn't so good at playing copied CDs.
But I'm assuming they're essentially the same thing and I can use them both ? They both work on their own with the each head unit.

So does anyone know how exactly I connect them both up so I can have 20 CDs in the boot ?
Do I have to buy some Sony switcher box thing for the boot, to go between the two changers or what ? Some special lead I can buy ?
I don't have a clue

Can anyone help ?

Tom

Its probably a good idea to talk directly to Sony for advice.
Presumably you'll need some sort of add on device that sits between the HU and the changers unless the HU itself has two sockets for changers.
Or maybe the changers have two sockets each so that you can daisy chain them to each other.
Sorry mate, but not sure on this one. :(

You can get a unilink junction box that can potentially control up to ten CD or MD changers but they are quite rare. I've been working at sony repair centres for 8 years now and I've never seen one!

Cheers :D Looks like I need an XA-U20 or an XA-C30 then, a few searches on Uni-Link and there's loads of stuff about it.
Managed to find a place up the road from me that can sell me something for £65 !

Thanks for your help :D
