Well, had my quote through from HIC this week,

when I got a quote for the car when I bought it in May I was quoted £357 with them, I was 27 and with 4yrs NCB + £400 excess

When the renewal came through it was £364 and I now have 5yrs NCB and I'm now 28 :(

Of course, the quote itself is good, this was TPFT car alarmed and off the road but had to have a liited mileage policy of 7500 to keep the premium down. The problem is HIC aren't too felxible in their payment options and wanted 1st payment of £141 and then 4 more of £65. I want to pay in 10/12 installments so had a shop around.

Norwich Union

£362 - £120 Excess, no limit on mileage + 10 month installment option

Tesco

£361 - £150 Excess, no limit on mileage + 10 month installment option

I was quite surprised with Norwich Union, as they used to be really fussy about who they would insure.

Always go for NU, NOT Norwich Union Direct. They're seperate, and NUD are a real Rip.

No surprise about Tescos being same practically as NU. NU provide the insurance to Tesco. And Ford. And a lot of others.

and NUD are a real Rip.

Norwich Union Direct no good then?

Do you mean they're expensive or useless?

I had a very reasonable quote from their website, but I am 32 with full ncb and clean license <touches wood>

any direct arm of an insurance co are shat really. Mainly because they employ insurance "technicians" who really dont know F/ALL.

These technicians are really nothing more than salesmen, and you know the story with salesmen, once theyve got ur money they dont care. And how do these ppl make money? commisions!! and because of that they wont think twice about cockin up your policy as long as they get it on cover - they couldnt give a toss bout what happens when it falls off the wagon later on.

Norwich union are by no means fussy about what they insure - in fact they are known as the Bible in the industry cos if anyones gonna quote its gonna be them - they just charge an extortionate premium for it (for example ive got an 18 yr old on a 911 - for £9,000/yr - not so bad i thought)

Arry, I'm with hastings direct at the mo and I've not found anyone cheaper in years. Had Porsche Peugeot and Rover insured with them. Just swapped the Rover to the 200sx so I don't know how much the renewal will be yet, can I give you a shout for a quote when it's due in September to compare?

BTW NUD quoted around £350 (comp) when I was checking costs prior to buying the car, I'm expecting Hastings to be around that.

Cheers

Interesting, Norwich Union are one of the underwriters ready to write a scheme for our club!

Unless you're a 'safe' catagory driver, NUD are normally bloody expensive.
Basically, they have huge overhead.
Whereas NU use the existing structure that CGU and NU had for selling insurance, NUD are new and shiney and went out and bought a LOT of new kit and pay a lot of mainframe support... hence they charge more to recoup expense.
I got quoted 1650 from NUD _with_ a 20% discount and 950 from NU.
