I know someone who is selling a sunny Gti-R, he claims it has a blown piston and needs a new wiring harness.

These cars usually cost about £5k, how much would a new engine and harness be assuming that the rest of the car was OK?

Any help greatly appriciated, I am currently trying to contact the person to find out more (age, mileage etc).

Dunc.

PS I would be greatful for any other advice or thoughts on this matter.

Hey??? Why does it need a new wiring harness?

Anyway, I can put you in touch with a guy who has what you need....

I'd be tempted Dunc, but prolly to break it.
There was a guy down here selling a Celica GT4 with £10k of mods for £1500 cos the big ends had gone, £100 to fix.

FFS why didn't I buy it? Doh!

Here is the reply I got from my friend, I know the car he is talking about - I don't think its a 9 sec 1/4 but its pretty close!

i could be wrong but i think its a Garett T25 thats on the TD, and yes its
off a Mk.2 golf, hence why the manifolds match up, as the heads and blocks
are externally identical.

The reason the loom went was because, this was the 9 second or what ever it
was 1/4 mile gti-r from ncr in dundee, you know the quickest one in britain,
it had been changed to a front mounted inter cooler, and cause of the
gapping big holes left in the bonnet now that the original intercooler was
removed the guy put sheet over the engine each night to stop the engine bay
getting all yukky from water getting in the holes, one day he went to work,
forgot to take the sheet out, it caught fire, and the loom melted. There is
flame damage the bumper also, so he decided to ditch it and get a skyline.
So his mate who also works at ncr who had a gti-r also (i thinks its red)
asked if he could buy the beast engine fromt he fire damaged black one, the
guy said ok, and he got it for a bit of a steel. The engines were swapped
over, but the standard one from the red one had (dont quote me on this) a
timing belt snap, and a piston is damaged , if that is whats wrong there is
obviously valve damage too, but I have never heard anyone say that. So
thats why the the car is at grahams, with a bust engine and a melted loom,
graham was going to get it going, but hes got yet another bleedin car and
does like jap crap so is just ditching it to raise funds.Graham has a mk1
ford escort with a BTCC engine, Ruf tuned E reg porsche 911 turbo, Jaguar
XJ6 sport, some crazy old 911 style scoda 350R (could have got the number
wrong on that one) which he's fitting a renault 5 turbo engine too and a
Jaguar xjs which has over 250bhp and i heard hes planning to double that.
The guy aint quite right.

Any more thoughts lads?
