my dad just bought one - had a quick drive of it and it seems pretty sharp.

spent the best part of the night looking on here for performance stats for the damn thing - its a A4 2.4 1998 model.

Problem is, all i can find is 1.8T, and 2.8 quattro, its almost as if this one doesnt exist - even the audi OC doesnt list anything, not a single sentence!

does any one know, even roughly, what these motors are like? ie reliability, performance, economy etc?

cheers lads

I think I'm sad. I was gonna guestimate the figures but thought i'd check parkers...

http://www.parkers.co.uk/choosing/performance/performance.asp?model_id=754

and my figures are too close to theirs. I'm a car geek!

as for reliability, I don't rate it. they used to be good relative to non-german marques but now ford and vauxhall and friends have caught up and people like audi, vw and merc are just running on their name for reliability. quality materials used tho.

I had this exact model on an extended week's test drive when it was time for a new company car in 98.

I thought it was exceptionally well built, well specced, but a really boring drive. The engine, when coupled to the auto transmission was a bit too vocal, for something I was going to be doing 60000 miles a year in, and too gutless above 70mph.

As a second hand buy though, for someone who isn't looking for a sports car, I should think it takes some beating, just don't get it serviced by Audi, unless you're mega rich.
