As suggested by Dan, a thread for dodgy/ dead/ dying cars that may be up for sale as in Good Condition. Only post with the car details please.
Originally posted by Dan (this was his car that has just gone up for auction):
"Anyway look out for a White S13 In excellent condition (at first glance) reg L225 JBE.
It basically needs:
New engine
Possibly turbo (soon)
welding of rear sills
Rear subframe bushes
brake lines are corroded
and it has a patched up ecu (soldered).
Has had a bump by one if its previous owners, front bumper and wings, you can tell cos they are a different shade of white. "
G4?? PAP - silvery blue - I wrote it off a few years ago - someone pulled out in front of me.
I know it was back on the road though - I got loads of parking tickets cos my insurance company hadn't told the DVLA...
A red S13 I looked at buying a few weeks back ( H plate if I remember correctly ). It's on a garage forecourt on the B4100 at Lighthorne ( just down from the Landrover site at Gaydon ). Been there for about 9 months.
I test drove it & then checked underneath ( wished I'd done it the other way round ). Problems I found :
c.5cm holes ( one each side ) in the cross members. They got bigger when I touched them as more rust flaked off.
Near side tie rod bush, pos off side as well
Whole new clutch unit - the clutch fluid was almost running out of it.
Front brake discs - almost totally knackered
Front calipers - looked very rusty
Rear off side tyre - told was just flat, though think it's got a puncture as it was flat again a couple of days later.
Drivers seat doesn't stay upright
<Lots> of steering shudder at 60, pulls to left.
Full current dealer history, 68k on the clock but with shiny steering wheel, worn pedels, carpets, seats etc. i'm not saying it's been clocked but ...
Shall I go on ?
In fairness to the garage owner he was willing to put everything right if I was interested. I'm not.
BTW - it's up for about £2k

SKIDZ.....
I`m sure some of the first S14`s were available in pearl white.
When they first came out I had a S13 and was working in a bodyshop in Bedford when we repaired a pearl white S14. I could be wrong, but I`m pretty sure it was a factory colour and hadn`t been painted. Still the one in Wellingborough does sound a dog though!!
There was a thread in 'was it you?' about the time I got mine (1 year ago), I think it was decided on there that the pearl white S14 was imported.:)
ohhhhhhhhhhhh still it was a ****ter and i aint gonna apologise to arthur frecken daley knob rot for trying to sell it off as a minter...

Mine...............
p743wwl damson, for sale at Co. Durham sold it in 99 after a bad
bang. 3.5k damage to rear o/s. Internal struts drive shaft and new rear quater. Was fixed but traded it in with a
brr-ing from that side and a proud drivers door. See it's got 45k on it now. 3 and 1/2 years ago I sold it with 28k. Make sure it's got history and warranty.
The V plate red S14a non-touring that was in autotrader for 6500. This had previous crash damage. Probably best left alone.

LOL! I love that sig Amdathlonuk. :)
Black S14a. (V389 BFE).
Last known location was at a Salvage company in Essex (Canvey Island or something that sounds like it).
Just to confirm that when first released the S14 came in a Pearl White finish as an option. The majority of the Dealers demo's were this colour.
But yes, that one sounds like a dog!

Don't know the reg but its at Fountain farage in Wallesey, the car might be alright but the fella is well dodgy, if something goes wrong you will have a fight to sort it on the warranty.
Not necisarily one to avoid but certainly one to be wary of. The owner e-mailed me the following spec:
nissan 200sx s13 l-reg 1.8 twin cam 16v turbo,17"kosei sport alloys with pirelli p-zeros, neons, 6pot caliper ap racing brakes, full coilover suspension, evo rear adj spolier, reactive privacy glass, mongoose s/s twin exhaust, organic clutch, t3 turbo, 5th injector, blitz intercooler, traction control & launch control, blitz boost controller & turbo timer plus £1000 of blitz gauges, monster tach, dump valve, blitz induction kit, 100bhp nitrous express kit, max power 465bhp. max speed 160mph. 0-60 - 4.8secs price to sell £3500.
As soon as I started asking him questions about the car he told me it was sold.
The add states the engine was rebuilt 3000 miles ago yet no mention of this in the spec.
The car has also been a category C write off at one point, something I found out from someone on this board (thanks again) rather than from the vendor.
May be a great car. May have been sold already. But I get the impression this guys is waiting for someone to con :(

Er, shouldn't 465 brake make the car quicker than this?
I know that's not the point of the thread but I am surprised....
The whole thing was dodgy mate, which is why I thought I'd warn folk to take care with this one :)
Steer clear of X702 WDM - an S14a Touring in black.
I "converted" it to an S7½ at the back end of 2001.
CAR TO AVOID:
-------------------
P605 JEV
Mauve S14, Needs new Headgasket and exhaust manifold. Quite scratched paintwork too. 87k miles when I saw it. Was going to auction I believe.

When I phoned the owner I was told that the car was in excellent condition and that where was only a little bit of rust on one of the arches, I was also told that the engine had no problems at all and didn’t smoke.:smitten:
When I get there after 2 hours of driving the car was a mess!
Almost all the wings where rusted, especially the back wings that where almost rusted through
The back hatch also was rusted so bad that the paint was lifted of the panel on top of what I can just explain as a back hatch that was completely rusted through.
On to the engine
The engine had a terrible clanking and knocking noise that can only be described as the big ends gone big time.
The engine also smoked so bad that I had to shut the car down in fear of doing more damage to this heap.
What made me laugh was the guy was trying to tell me that the noises where to be expected in a car this age! And that there perfectly fine.:censored:
I thanked him for wasting my time with this heap and left.
Black S14a Auto (formally mine!) T341 TVM
Just gone back to Chorley Nissan after an 8 month battle. The car has NO service history, has had a new front bumper, a full respray, and the passenger side rear caliper is very badly buckled indicating major impact damage.
It also has a very strong pull to the left which got worse the longer I drove it.
And all this was missed in an AA inspection!
2001 Y Reg Nissan 200 2.0 SX Touring Carringtons Cars.com Petrol, Automatic, Red with Grey Leather, Coupe, 29,000 miles . Air-Conditioning, Alarm, Alloy Wheels, Anti-Lock Brakes, Driver Air Bag, Electric Adjustable Mirror, Electric Windows, Full Service . . . . (trade) more info
FOUR owners    (in two years!????).
Also, it arrived at the dealer with a monster rear wing, which the bloke at the garage said they were going to replace with a normal spoiler that was not Nissan 'but close enough'.
Fill you with confidence? No, me neither (so picked up a V-reg from Chichester instead)!

 not for you surely mate?
This sounds very much like the one that Fish Brothers in Swindon had last month. It had 45k miles or so though. Strange. Can't be very many Y reg S14as about, let alone red as well...

Ease up!
(Ripper is slightly ruffled at such a suggestion  ).
No, Jeff - bought it for my mate Ade (has been to a couple of Bristol meets with me in his red S13 - which isn't too well, hence the new car).
Had one hell of a thrash on the way back via the South Coast and then over the Mendips (yes!).
Had to keep easing off so as not to embarrass the S14, though :D
This V reg from chichester: it's not red is it? advertised in Auto Trader for 8 grand'ish? I drove a long way to lOOk at an "immaculate" car that was far from it. The front end had a 'filler and spray can' job on the n/s bumber, two chips in the windscreen, paint that was already begining to oxidise through not polishing it (at all), a finger-tip sized dent at the top of rear n/s arch, bits missing here and there as I remember. Terrible battery on it's last legs, some lights didn't work. Also the guy (an older guy) had put 21,000 miles on it taking it to 28,000 in ONE year!! AND no service history in that time untill of course it came to selling it. This guy had bought it to "have fun in" but obviously didn't have a clue how to take care of it. I was not impressed at his advert saying "immaculate" and "Full Nissan service History"
I bought mine with some side damage.
An engine recon but no receits , a recon gearbox but no receits - i liked the colour. Could have bought a mint one - red in wokingham. Red pffft
cant stand red

H24CCU, 91 S13, Wallsend North East.
Not one to avoid as such, just give it some extra attention - you'd be mad to pay the full £2000 for it.
Last time I sat in it, I was sure it had over 90,000 miles, not the 77,000 it's for sale at.
Have a good look underneath for rust (I've heard it isn't in great nick).
I never heard of any problems with the engine.

(selling cos i cant aford to keep it - not cos its dodgy ;))
Two major additions to this list:-
1) Red J plate Automatic (near gatwick) £1450, claimed to have been poorly sprayed on one side to coverup scratches but further investigation revealed very poorly repaired accident damage which included, inner wing plate still bent, over spray onto drivers side front indicator non-matching paint etc etc.
2) Grey L reg Automatic (hammersmith area) £1450, claims to be spottless and 60,000 miles. Where should I start? Every panel damaged or scratched in some way, interior drivers seat wrecked, rest of interior very bad, slight buckle in drivers side turret, flaking paint (bad respray), missing headlamp washer jets, engine looked like it had done 200,000 miles (poorly maintained?). Service history, the guy said "they get serviced every 20,000 miles like toyotas don't they?" This means 3 oil changes instead of 20 at this mileage!!!!! Loads more but can't think about them, the guy was desperate to get rid of it and ended up phoning us up on our way home saying "You can have it for a grand". Nicked I recon.
Both these cars are in this weeks autotrader (19/10/03).
Cheers,

luckly I'm safe and I've owned mine for the last 8 months but that is one hell of a way to scare a person.
this was my car before being written off sliding through a badger. As someone has applied for the V5, I would assume it's going to get put back on the road.
it is probably repairable, but it is NOT standard and I doubt would be returned to such a state. I also hastilly removed the mods I could when I had to, which resulted in rounding some nuts on the subframe. there was no spare wheel or boot trim, and the jack is still in my garage.
the car also went to several drift events in it's life - which is bound to shorten the life expectancy of the engine.

Red 96 S14 on Irish plate in Sheffield. Begins NCZ. 82k full service history and decribed as absolutely superb looks and performance. FSH read not serviced for over 2 years. NSR quarter repaired (poorly). Leaky rad full of water. Rear calipers seized. Runs like a bag of spanners. Advertised in Auto Trader for £3495 by a (no offence to our Scottish brothers) fifty year old Scottish Muppet.

theres a car i looked at yesterday which i cant remember the plate of which is dog rough.
its a grey prefacelift on an H plate and is up for sale at a garage called high market cars for 1500 quid ( ashington, nr newcastle)
its not worth half that, the paint on the front end is attrocious, flaking off the bumper, and the chin spoiler is scuffed to bits ( as if its been dragged along a rock)
the back arch ( nearside) is pretty caved in and has majour rot on the uderside. looks like its been crash damaged and bodged.
engine is fooked, has very loud big end rattle and the radiator is filled with a nice sewage coloured water.
back bumper has cracked paint and faded somewhat, exhaust needs replacing.
interior isnt too bad, shabby gear lever gaitor, usual wear and tear although seats arent too bad.
back windscreen has a tiny crack in it
tyres are worn ( fronts arent far off the wear limit)
turrets are rusty and nearside has rusted a nice hole in it on the weld)
otherwise its immaculate :D
can be found in the autotrader btw, so dont touch it ladies and gents :)

One to avoid near Cardiff - Trade Sales Direct of Nelson near Cardiff
Currently listed (and has been since at least June 03!): -
NISSAN 200 SX TURBO (New Model) TOURING, N red, alloys, air con, awesome performance, only £3295.
Its on 125,000 miles, its NOT a touring (as its the model with cloth interior and no multi disc), blowing manifold, really noise engine and was owned by a company for the last 4-5 years before 2003 and they didn't have any receipts - prolly ragged to pieces by the way it sounds.
Prolly worth in real terms about £2200-2400 max. AVOID!
Nice red colour mind

SwissTony, Chris
I don't know whats wrong with it, it just seems cheap as.... and while I know that cars are a tad cheaper in Wales it just seems too good to be true!
I was hoping to be in the Newport area tomorrow and was going to have a butchers meself, but it would seem its not to be. I was hoping that someone on the list would be aware of the car, as you SX types seem to be a close knit community, I work with 2 of the more dubious types
Hopefully I'll get up there next week to have a look when I go to view a house.

saw one in frome a month or so ago, cant remeber plate but was burgandy, was rusted to buggery, and both the spare and rear tyre wqs flat so you couldnt even get a test drive. also front seat (driver) needed replacing, although the gent selling (A taxi driver no less) informed me it was supposed to be like that!. incomplete history and only a month left (then) on MOT and likely to fail on body falling apart.

I went along with CrazyMofo for a looksie.
On the face of it looks a nice car - started looking deeper and its has evidence of pre accident on the front O/S corner... and also rear O/S corner... rust starting to come through on the inner wings.... rear light does not line up with boot. Whole O/S looks like it has had paintwork.
Seems to be a running problem as struggles to idle correctly and cold start not working it seems.
Drives fine though and interior is very clean but I wouldnt touch it with a barge pole

S587JUD black s14a stroud trade centre the car's a sh*t heap, have an full RAC report and looks like its been in a front end colision and its been clocked too. Wear and tear on it is bad for the milage interior in a bad condition, brakes in an even worse state, extremely bad respray job.
i was going to post that up too Ade - i forgot what the company selling it was called though.
my advice is don't buy anything from them, all of there cars looked like shit heaps, an the salesmen had a stinking attitude.

My ex S13 that i had to return to a dealer because the engine went pop. The dealer is a fraud and it's for sale at EDS cars in Denham, Buckinghamshire. The car is an S13 on a J plate with about 113k on the clock. It's got a big old spoiler on it and Jules Racing wheels. Don't be tricked by the spec list. The cars a dog and is VERY badly fueled. The dealer is also bent as a 9 bob note.
Just thought I would let you all know.b

V911 RCX - Sapphire Blue S14a for sale.
Advertised as a V (99) having done 68K with full service history and in excellent condition priced at £6495.
I viewed this car and found numerous serious issues with the car related to its structural condition, service history & mileage and let me tell you it is none of the above other than a V (99) priced at £6495.
As this vehicle is currently for sale I do not wish to disclose the faults in this thread as the seller may attempt to hide the evidence. I do not know if it appears on an HPi report as I did not get as far due to discoveries made by myself and thats enough for me. The last owner did not have it for long either until he has discovered what he had and offloaded it.
Anyone wishing further details can email or PM me, though its not even worth contemplating. I am actually considering informing trading standards on this one as it does not meet the description it is advertised.
V878OKL - Pewter S15 Spec R
Don't touch it with a barge pole. Take it from me - I bought it and gave it back.

My old car, Plate is S200 SXY My mate brought it of me and since then he has planted it into a wall, its been fully repaired at an expensive cost (more than car value) but still does not drive very well. The car is not up for sale yet but may be early next year. Damage was to the driver front wing front bumper head light stirring rack etc..
Green 200SX S14A on Autotrader, reg obscured but listed as having new intercooler fitted. Nice chap, car has been in the family for about 2 years but the car has had a lot of paint at some point before then. All the driver's side has been painted for sure, didn't bother looking at the rest, I just walked away. Suggest you avoid, or HPi and check thoroughly.

How does that work ? M plate would make it a late S13 or early S14, not a 14a. If that was the case, how was he allowed to register it on a later plate ?
The dvla would not let the car be registered on a plate that made the car seem newer than it really was regardless, so I think something doesn't quite add up there.

I suppose it could have been registered as a '97 on an M-plate but the reg given doesn't seem like a personalised plate

Seen a couple, s14 at treadmark tyres was dodgy, when asked about MOT in june as it had decat pipe sellers responce was, "come and see me mate and I'LL get you an MOT, i walked " Interior was heavily perfumed, it had been storred on grass, waiting to see it driving around now as it is fairly local to me.
one ive just been to see. Its in liverpool (not far from the wallacy tunnel)
L reg S13, red, 78k, leather.
The seller is genuine enough but something for me didnt sit right about the car.
The drivers seats very worn at 78k.
The turbo is siezed (the guys not trying to hide this) not in any adverts but he tells you over the phone
the thing that put me off was if you look closley all the panels are different shades of red. the door doesnt match the wing, wing doesnt match the bumper.
Theres also zero rust on the wings.. like theyre too new. If you do want this car ide advise to get it HPI checked as i suspect it may have had an accident and has had the rear 1/4s reskinned and other bits sprayed up.
its up for 750 but i got it down to 600 and still walked away
Cool
Just read this thread and realised my car is mint:p
Sorry for going off topic:rolleyes:
Just went to look at one that's on the 'trader at the moment; black, 135k in Ruislip, Middlesex.
Looks very shiny in the photos but up close the paintwork isn't great, especially on the bonnet and loads of sizeable blemishes. The passenger side sill is in a pretty bad way, as is the rad x-member, and the drivers turret.
There's probably more rust but I didn't bother investigating because as soon as he started the engine and I revved it I heard the faint but distinct beginnings of big end failure at 3k.
K*** JRR - avoid
Mr C is coming back :D
Bet you wish you never sold her mate :(

Apologies for abit of a threadjack, but i've never seen this menioned in a buyers guide, is it a problem that can occur then? What does it sound like?
