View Full Version : 200SX, mk1 MR2 or mk1 MX5 Racing?

Peeps!

We're in a quandry at the moment.

The plan was for Karen to race next year, either in Formula Woman or in some other series funded by ourselves and sponsors.

Unfortunately, it would seem that if Karen succeeds in getting through the next round of Assessments for Formula Woman in October, that the following round may be in March. If she failed on that one, it'd leave no time at all to organise entry into a series and get a full season's racing. :(

Which leaves us wondering what the hell we can do to plan for racing next year?

We'd already considered the mk1 MR2 Challenge, and the mk1 MX5 Challenge. The MR2's would be about 3 to 4 grand for a prepared car, and the MX5 probably 5 to 6 grand. We'd end up selling our 'SX to help cover some of the costs.

Unless...

We find a suitable series in which to race the 'SX! :D

If we weren't going to get a full season then that wouldn't really matter so much. We could spend hopefully less than 4 grand getting the car up to spec. Trouble is I'd imagine it'd have to be a series where pretty much "anything goes" and the poor lass would be monstered by much more powerful machinery.

Opinions, ideas, other race series, cars??

Bren & Jez and maybe others have looked for suitable series' to race a modded 200 in and come up with none.

Yeah, I searched and found the thread previously... :(

Has anyone prepared an S13 200SX in the UK for competition purposes to the point where the car has been given an RAC logbook?

Searching the 'net doesn't seem to turn up much info on technical regs for race series. Most of them seem to require a payment up front for the regs. :o

Anyone know on the eligibilty rules for certain race series? I tried looking for info on the Britcar stuff without much success really.

At this rate she'll end up doing 2CV racing! :wack:

Put a 200sx engine in an scrapped MX5 and if anybody asks, say you had to weld the bonnet on.

LOL! :D

I've now found the Britcar regs - A possibility but we'd need another driver as well! Husband and wife team?

Looks like it'll be something straightforward like the MR2s or MX5s then. :indiff:

Still means selling the 200SX and our Scooby to get the race-car and a decent tow-car. That's my next headache. Finding a suitable tow-car.

I would forget Britcar unless you have a serious budget or a BIG sponsor.
MX5 championship is good value as is Caterham Academy if you have a car left at the end of the year to sell.
Good luck though!

Agreed on Britcar!

Caterham academy is an option - All Karen's Formula Woman official tuition is in a Caterham. They're still more expensive to purchase than the MR2/MX5 but I wouldn't need such a hefty tow-car. :wack:

When we get Tim Harvey for the day soon, I'll ask him about which path to go down in terms of racing series for Karen to achieve her ultimate goal. :notworthy

All cars are road legal in the Caterham academy so you wouldn't need a tow car you could drive there and back (If it doesn't get stuffed)

whats to stop someone from starting up their own race series?

all the others must have started out in the same position, and i'm sure there'd be quite a bit of interest in it if you could do a 200sx series or just a jap coupe series etc etc.
