View Full Version : Have us Northerners got the best road or what!!
Check the pics, they go on for miles and miles and miles. No traffic, no potholes, decent tarmac and clear vision :D
Complete mix of 140mph straights to 15mph 1st gear hairpins.
Mmmmmmm, the borrocks!! :D

i seem to remember travelling along a stretch of A road between huddersfield and rochdale a few years back that was absolutely superb. Didnt see another car for miles and the only living things around were sheep on the hillsides. The road went up the side of a valley and then down the other side and around what i think was a reservoir. Anyway, the bends and straits were fickin eggshellent
Saddleworth moors :D :D :D
Oh to be home agaiiiiiiiiiiiin :(
Those are the only real hazards, the sheep :D
The roads are such a buzz, they streach every part of the car, the power, the brakes and the suspension.
The car has to be set up right because some of the fast 100+ mph streaches can be smooth but full of dips so youve got to be on your toes to keep the thing on the tarmac.
Very very rewarding though, you know youve been working hard if you push your motor quickly on the roads round here :D
At the part of the road where I took the second pic youd be doing over a ton and you can see that theres a tricky section coming up with a dip leading up to a hill with a blind brow and a farmhouse (tractors and all) on the left. Takes lots of concentration but its such a buzz :D

you should try the M25 bout 6ish mate, thats hard work im tellin ya! only reward you get from that is gettin home before midnite!
I can imagine! Dont get me wrong, the majority of the roads round here are the typical congested w@nk but we do get the roads above in compensation ;)
granted mate, and yes i am envious!
i was a courier a couple of years ago and used to make regular runs up to the Manchester area - much prefered to making 5 drops round south london and surrey!
I always wanted to be a motorcycle courier but their average life span can be counted on the fingers so thought it may not be a good idea! LOL :D
west end london, friday nite and a merc sprinter van can be just as hairy im tellin ya!
"and if one of those bastid m/c couriers get up on my outside once more im gona squish im!!!" was a familiar phrase!
quite regularly saw a dead m/cist on the corner of tower bridge and east smythfield, there were a set of railings there that caught everyone out
Which road is that in the picture Bren ?
I was up near Holmfirth yesterday which is not too far from you I think. I had a quick blast on the snake pass then took the B road from Glossop to join the A628 ? Woodhead pass. There is a great road that leads up from Woodhead pass to Holmfirth. You pass the main BBC transmitter for the North up there and end up in Holmfirth. Then its back to Manchester on the A635. :D :D
Great roads up here ;)
Cool mountain air for the turbo as well :)

Yeah it rocks, I've taken the S13 over there a few times now, good fun. :)
But I disagree, Breacon Beacons & surrounding have the best roads. :) Just I haven't been up there for a while. Sheep have a tendancy to jump out infront of you though.
It was the B6165 and then B6265 :) Out to Pateley Bridge via Harrogate and then on towards Skipton through the Yorkshire Dales National Park :)
Northern (lake district) roads are the best.! ive moved to the midlands now and    weres my open road..speed cams galore..police everywere..trafic..people crosing the road 5 ft away from a zebra..(still, there better looking than the sheep) but i cant even come round a corner at 120mph and worry about how im getting round the tree thats just fell down 25 yds in front of me:( or the tractor doing 1mph) oh well life does have to go on i supose :D :D :D
Oh yeah baby, the Lake District roads are also the borrocks. Everything from flat out duel carriageways to the tight and twisties :D
He he.
I live in-between that road out of Holmfirth and the one between Huddersfield and saddleworth. Both are superb and within 5-10 mins driving of me house!
I have ta say that the tarmac aint exactly smooth but the roads and the lack of traffic make up for that.
I never understand people who have quick cars and live / work in London. whats the point?
Lake District road are also good but dam busy.
