I need an excuse to visit Brighton, but it's not on the way to anywhere.
Similar offer, but in a 28mpg S14 from Leeds instead. :)

Cheers Jon. Would ideally be quite early on Saturday getting down there before lunchtime, so pretty early start for you I'd guess. But yeah if thats not a problem it sounds workable. I'm going to get some kip now anyway.

I just realised this trip might involve going into Wales. Requires thought.

EDIT - Maybe could meet this end of the bridge?

Jon
03-08-2005, 02:03
Up here, you can get from west to east in an hour (with foot down). Multimap (and indeed school atlas) tells me that South Wales is feckin miles away.
Any members in Reading feeling helpful?

MeLLoN Stu
03-08-2005, 03:04
tbh jon it doesnt take any time at all to get to south wales :) straight around the bottom of birmingham and down the M6/M5 :)

No worries Jon. TBH it would be a very long drive for you, probably 7hrs for Leeds to Brighton via Cardiff! Can't really get to other side of the bridge easily.

Ade thanks, let me know. What do you mean by know if you can drive?? No worries if you can't, I have a backup plan :)

Hi m8, wasn't sure when you'd be back. Seem to have a few offers on here and all much appreciated :) :)

Anyhoo, I hope it will be OK for Saturday but there is a last minute spanner in the works. Starter motors not properly engaging the OS Giken flywheel therefore they've had to drop the gearbox out again to investigate. So theres a chance it might not be ready for pickup on Saturday. Will have more info tommorrow.

What he said

Papa Lazarou
05-08-2005, 19:13
Yep. Its not for an S14 :( Flywheel slightly too big. If I can work out whats its for at least should be able to sell it..

Still picking it up BTW, with my old clutch on.

Kev
05-08-2005, 20:56
how slightly?
is it hitting the outers of the box, or is it just the starter that is the problem?
and if its the latter, cant u just move the starter out a bit.
like use one original mounting hole, and make a small bracket to move the other to just outside the bellhousing.

Bodge it Jon, or get em to

VIDAL BABBOON
05-08-2005, 21:34
There is not much room to bodge it on unfortunately :(

BUT it is possible to elongate the holes on the starter to allow about 8/10mm of movement !

How the hell have they only now spotted that Papa ! thought they would have noticed that during fitting ?

Papa Lazarou
05-08-2005, 22:19
TBH it came with a tag on it saying "SR20 OS Triple" so I guess it already fooled the suppliers (reputable ones) who probably mixed it up with a load of other clutches they had. I'm guessing the size difference is going to be fairly small (wasn't hitting bellhousing, was an issue with starter only). He admitted he didn't compare side by side against the OE flywheel before fitting, but just assumed I'd supplied the correct part. TBH I wouldn't have been happy with a bodge unless it was a good one :) I'm a bit pissed but for me it just says don't buy these sort of things off Ebay!

VIDAL BABBOON
05-08-2005, 22:33
Ahh gutted

Well I recon you would get away with elongating the starter hole mate  there is plenty of meat on it and you have a good clamping force when it's bolted up

I'd be up for trying to bodge it onto my CA Jon. :)

Kev
06-08-2005, 13:53
think the bell housing is too small for that Jezz

Jezz_S13
06-08-2005, 16:29
you can grind bits off the bell housing. :)

People have fitted 300zx clutches to the CA, after grinding bits off. :D

Shouldn't have to bodge it Jezz. It looks to be a CA clutch.

Jezz_S13
06-08-2005, 18:47
The CA gear ring is smaller in diameter than the S14, 1 tooth less IIRC.

If you are selling it can you PM me with how much do you want for it?

Jezz_S13
06-08-2005, 18:50

How is it?

Papa Lazarou

No car not back :( Few issues that need ironing out. ECU is behaving very oddly, causing it to not idle properly, stall at junctions etc. So I decided to leave it and go back when it is sorted. Collected a few parts when I was up there as I had pre-sold one or two. The ring gear on the flywheel does indeed have one extra tooth. It is for sale :)

bugger

Papa Lazarou

For some reason its idling as if its under load (idle control valve is not opening, VVT engaging when it should disengage to idle) etc.

Bigtone
06-08-2005, 19:12
are you happy with the garage and the work they have done so far?

Jezz_S13

Arse. :(
Is that still the stock ECU?

Papa Lazarou
06-08-2005, 19:43

Yeah have done a good job so far. The work looks top notch. It has taken a bit longer than I'd liked to get this far, but there have been a few issues along the way which were beyond their control to be fair.

It is a stock ECU, on a wiring loom from an automatic S14. The auto loom differs in having two TPS connectors (one for an idle switch).

Sure the exhaust will be sorted with a little weld or something Butuz :) And thanks again for the lift, I owe you.

They are aiming for next weekend. We'll see :) Depends on problem really as it could be loom related but it could be something else I guess.
