I've tried downloading various ones but I keep getting the image too big message:( .... how'd you make 'em smaller?

Use something like MS photo editor.

A mate @ work made mine.

You just get a piccy that you want then reduce it to a max of 50x50 pixels. You can have 50 x 40 to keep aspect ratio if you like.

I tried using links to 'official' avatar sites.... the graphics looked tiny but the 'larger than 50x50 message' remained...?

I did a search on google for avatars and 50x50. Not a lot of choice but found summink. Then right click and select properties and just copy and paste the URL address into the right place in the 'user CP' thingy (I'm v.high tech as you can see ;) )

What I don't understand is if you use any picture and then edit it as mentioned, what type of file should you save it as, because I can't make it work that way??

.gif or .jpg I think, deffo .gif.

gif it is, and I have finally got my head round something involving computers - hooray :D :D
