Greets.
It's now 3:45am and I'm a bit stressed out :(
I'm trying to setup a Win2000 server machine with VPN server running so I can connect a couple of machines over the net to it, give them IP's that I use on the local lan here, so we can share a subnet and get some certain stuff done.
Problem is, it's not working and I currently can't see how to fix it.
The LAN IP range is 192.168.0.1 -> .0.19
The subnet mask is (and I assume this is right) 255.255.255.0
I've spent about an hour reading more than I wanted to about routing tables and what-not to see if I could see what the problem is.
The three local machines are 192.168.0.1 , 0.2, 0.3, with 0.3 being the server. I set the IP range for VPN clients to be 192.168.0.11 to 192.168.0.19
When I connect a test machine to the server, it logs in fine, gives me an ip from that range, but then says my subnet mask is 255.255.255.255 - as far as I can tell, this is probably a problem.
When I connected up another machine, I got an ip allocated from the range that wasn't being used, same subnet, and the machines can't ping each other.
The original reason for setting this up was to get several people connected and sharing the same subnet. Originally I thought that as everyone was getting the same subnet, 255.255.255.255 this would be ok. From the stuff I've been sifting through, this isn't so good as from what I understand, this subnet means I effectively have one host per net, i.e. the machine VPN'ing in and no-one else.
How On Earth can I fix this, so for a start I can ping other VPN'd nodes. I cannot see ANY way of altering the setup to give me a different subnet mask when I vpn in. Is this a limitation of the software or do I just not know what specifically to alter.
The annoying thing is, while fiddling earlier I DID manage to enable machines to ping each other, but they still couldn't seemingly see broadcast packets and thus they won't run what I want them to run. I've since been pissing about with static routes but nothing seems to be working. I'm very unhappy :'(
Anyone got any (useful) suggestions?
