View Full Version : The JAE car cleaning thread...
Well for the anal, I have just spent 5.5 hours getting my car into this state:
http://www.sxoc.com/modpages/rand/misc/200sx%20shiney.jpg
Stage one of shiney, i.e. this isnt yet finished shiney, after cleaing the engine bay with a damp cloth (previous silicone treatment holds all the dirt and it just wipes off) then detailing. Remove "HKS exhaust power" sticker from carbon panel as I dont have an HKS exhaust anymore.
After hand washing, the rest of the time was spent getting rid of the water marks, and runing a clay bar over the top and running a cloth over to remove resedue. The clean wheens and shine the tyres, oh and hoover the boot.
To do:
- Wash again
- Clear coat cleanser
- paint decontaminstion to get rid of the previous treatments
- Wax
- Polish
- Clear coat polish
- Clean windows inside and out
- Polish inside with Audi interior cleaner (as it matt)
- Hoover inside
- Fit bits on there way over from japan, if they arrive (unlikely)
- metal polish the exhaust
- Detail all the black bits
I also decided to do a time line, with a photo taken every ten minutes, which was kind of cool, im bloody nackered now!!
mines going as it is. no time, dented it last wednesday drifting an oval with metal walls so it's going to look naff no matter what.
might stick it through a car wash. :D

Car sort of lost it refinement somewhat :wack: So thought what the hell and got a new zorst which cost me nowt after sorting the sale of the HKS one :) New gearbox is back in and the refinement has sort of well, returned :wack: I prefer the GT spec though, but I still love the HKS one ;)

mine is going to look like a bag of nails. every day i find new rust to poke through.
all my arches need work, there's bad colour coding, inept bodyshop work (ooh, dont get me started) so it'll look like shite, basically :D
i have shiny blue cam covers though :wack:

are you going to get out of it this year? :wack:
No point cleaning mine as i aint got it! Its over 200 miles away but im hoping they may run a wet rag over it! I will then have 2 days to frantically clean it ready, engine bay is going to be the bugger, whats everyone use, i have engine degrreasers, paint on stuff, looking at cillit bang as i have heard that gets results.

I'm not washing mine. If i did you'd be able to see the dodgy paintwork under the dirt.
we spent pretty much alllll day yesterday washing, waxing, polishing, hoovering, treating etc the car
then went and touched up the chips, scratches and big gouges in the paintwork so it mostly needs doing again now lol
its killer work doing that, my legs and hands are killing me still
used car wax on the wheels this time, damn they do look good
mine looked as shiny as that yesterday when we were done, covered in dust and cack by today god knows what it will look like after the drive down there
oh, will there be anyone selling poorboys or whatever is the current fave there? stands or what-have-you? or would that be beyond the trade rules?
I washed mine today, but I'm not going over the top by polishing it because I'm doing something else, a bit special and top secret, to it this week ;)
... a bit special and top secret, to it this week ;)
I thought you said the Tomei engine and buddy club body kit wouldnt arrive in time :wack: Mod addict
Cleaned mine today and it "was" looking really good, went out tonite and a bloody Renault 5 Turbo decided to blow his engine in front me, my bumper and bonnet is now covered in oil :annoyed: :annoyed: :annoyed:

stoof, maybe :wack:
i've planned it a lot better this year, so might not be absolutely knackered throughout the entire weekend :D
should be there friday evening for high jinks.
Looks good Vez.
Whats this Audi interior cleaner you use?... I have been using SONAX Matt cleaner for my interior and it does the job but is nothing special...
No idea really, it audi interior cleaner, and leaves everything more matt than it starts with so it excellent in my book :)
Will have to gander and compare :) - I hate shiny dashboards!

Hope to clean mine on Thursday. I don't see the point of waxing it at the moment due to the fact it is going in Wednesday morning for the Aircon compressor to be changed. So, no doubt will have sh*tty marks all over the front bodywork.

Wax it first... makes it easier to clean the crap off after then
Just got home and there is a huge lump of bird shit slap bang in the middle of the bonnet

You lot are all nuts, I'm not cleaning mine until the very last minute so it doesn't have time to get dirty :D
Will still be covered in cr@p by the time I arrive no doubt though :(
Mine will be clean but when it gets on to the stand it will be washed and waxed again then left for the weekend :)
5.5 hours  I can't even remember having 5.5 hrs spare time, let alone being able use it to clean the car :( very shiny Vez, I'm just a little jealous :)
5.5hrs isnt bad going to be honest... :)
I wont tell you how long I have spent doing mine :o :o :o
Still need to do following:

Fcuk me, I just cleaned and polished the car!! I think this is the first time its seen polish this year!
Never buy a black car :wack:
I'll probably run mine through the car wash if I see one on the way to EOES - that's it though :wack:
washed and did a quick wax and polish after work
will no doubt be filthy by the time we reach mascrat, but will hopefully be buying some decent cleaning stuff there and give it a good going over
Car Wash!!!
I could introduce you to Poorboys products :p ;)
I spent an hour on mine, 10 mins to drive to the valeters, 40 mins while 3 people ran round with cloths, hoovers, polish and wax, and 10 mins to drive home.
£15 Bargin :D
Then did 150miles at 100mph (test track officer ;) ) and covered it with flies and muckied the inside as I had 8 tyres and 4 wheels crammed into it for the return journey.

I would say hi to the products and ask you for a full demonstration - on my car of course. If I could shave in the reflection at the end of the demonstration then I would buy the products and take them home to put on the shelf next to all the other car cleaning products I don't use ;)
Actually I only have the basic shampoo + wax, and a couple of different polishes...
It's time that I have lacked since finding out I am coming to JAE...
LOL - I'll give you a demo using 'a' part of your car so you can see the difference ;)
Car Wash!!!

Heh, I have plenty of high quality car cleaning products but I'm seriously lacking time - oh, and I really couldn't care less about my paintwork, it's in such poor condition it's unreal. Mind you, I'll change my tune when/if I get a respray done :D
I was going to wash mine again tonite aftrer the Renny 5 incident  , looked at it. thought "its 3 hours driving, its not gonna be worth it" so ive left it for now until I get there, I will do mine on site. Whats the betting the tap is miles from the stand? :annoyed:

Seconded :)
And seconded :wack:
Mine's covered in shite. No point in cleaning it until I'm somewhere near Peterborough. It'll just get plastered in bugs and shite again driving up. All the cleaning gear is in the boot...
LOL - I'll give you a demo using 'a' part of your car so you can see the difference ;)
I'm very slow to learn so you may have to do a few parts before I can see the technique and be confident of replicating it :p

A couple of things I’ve discovered....
If you rinse your car using water from a waterbutt you don't get watermarks even if you don't chamie it afterwards
If you clean your wheels with wheel cleaner then use Mer wheel wax the brake dust won't stick to your wheels for a good 2 months. It'll wash off dead easy.
Autoglym extra protection gloss every 3 months means you don't have to polish it (except every 3 months before applying the EPG :wack: )
Running glass polish along your wiper blades stops them scraping along your window and making that hideous noise.
For the last 7 years I've spent 1 weekend every 3 months cleaning it properly outside and a day every 6 months valeting the inside.
For JAE, I ran a hoover round it and spent 15 minutes washing it when I got there.
I think it looked alright for original paintwork and Steve liked it enough for it to get 'Chairman's choice'.
Thanks for that BTW, I was well chuffed
Anyone making the effort for this year?
Obviously I am EXPECTED to make an effort... ;)
No pictures this year - can all see it at JAE :)
Its raining, god is making the effort for me :D
anyway, your doing my bonnet on Sat ;)
Its raining, god is making the effort for me :D
anyway, your doing my bonnet on Sat ;)
It wont matter for me as applied so much wax to the car the rain will just fall off anyway ... :wack:
You forget... I detail cars with the 'potential' to look good - yours lost that potential the moment you bought it :p :D
;)
Anyway the wife has to decide... :p
Anyway the wife has to decide... :p
She'll pick me, as I love her dogs :smitten:
There will be no cleaning of my car, car show or not. :smash:
