View Full Version : S15 importer?
A quick one really, wheres a good place to start looking for an S15?
I take it the Silvia-R is the 'proper' spec, how much would I expect to pay, £15k?
Autotrader. From there you will get a feel for the main importers who deal with them.
Here's two to get you started:

Be wary of the red one. It seems too cheap...
£12-16k for a decent class Spec R.

I have found that you generally get what you pay for. Be absolutely sure if its under £12k. The Japs (or the Jap exporters) have a lovely habit of laquering cars before they are put up for sale. This is great, except that they don't prep them that well. Meaning lacquered-over crap on the bodywork.
Remember, a grade 4 condition car may not be what YOU view as mint. Unless its already on the forecourt ready to view, you are trusting in the description until it arrives.
Also be VERY wary of cars with mods. The only record of what's been done on the car is what you can see. Go for standard and do the mods yourself. Not only are you sure of what you're getting, but you don't have to trust in someone else to remove all the mods and put them all back on correctly
Make sure you pay for a BIMTA check. This is a Jap HPI. It also verifies the mileage.
Thanks sushiming
Some good advise there Nicely, could of been done with knowing about the BIMTA that before i bought mine, as i have no proof of milage, although having said that i trust the guys at Newera are not trying to rip me off.

I like the look of yours Topper. :)
I was thinking a stock S15 or stock Skyline R34 GTT or possibly a Supra TT?
I might want to use it for some work mileage so the Supra might not be as practical, the S15 would probably win in those stakes but performance wise which is better? Do the S15's go well A-B and on track, I've heard the S14 was a little soft.
PS: http://www.neweraimports.com/index.htm looks expensive, some of the prices are way over.
If you want to do more mileage, the S15 will be much cheaper to run, particularly compared to the Skyline. You can tune an S15 up to 300-320bhp without trying too hard. The 15 has more body tightening and doesn't wallow as much as the 14. This can be improved by a bit of lowering.
IMO the Supra just looks dated these days, especially at the front.

That's good to know.
As far as the Supra is concerned, I still think it looks unreal. Its road presence is very strong, makes the S15 look like a timid stray and tbh I'm STILL not sold on the silvias rear end.
...but, 300hp mildly modded, reliable, not to heavy, luxury but also with some sportyness for a fair price sounds good to me.
My problem will be insurance, seeing as I'm only 22 the import factor may bugger me up. Saying that I insured my previous Civic VTI (group 15) for £800 FC which is cheap.
Not mine! :whip:Now a photo of the front...
I'm not talking anything away from the Supra. Its an awsome car (the TT), just not my cup of tea anymore.

Try A Plan. There's a whole list of insurers who specialise in imports in the Insurance section.
Thanks m8.
Which model is the best, the Spec-R Aero? 5 or 6 speed box, or do they all come with 6 speeds?
Spec R/Spec R Aero. Don't bother with the Spec S - its non-turbo. All Spec Rs have a 6 speed box. Some have HIDs as an option. If you can, get one with them.
Front as requested

well ive just got a quote from A-Plan fully comp with modds declaired 23 5yr ncb about 1290 with protected ncb......I think thats cheap really....
hey mate how many ncb u got ?
Meh, £700 FC with 6 Yrs NCB on the TT manual JDM supra ;)
Well I've actually always been on my mothers insurance as named (naughty I know) so I have 0 NCB, however in Jan 05 I will have 1 year but I want the car before then. I've never had an accident or claim so that DOES make things cheaper for me and my postal code is the cheapest because I live in the countryside away from prying eyes.
For example I paid £620 FC for a grp14 hot hatch, for my age that's VERY cheap. I don't mind paying 1-1.5k to insure an import though, sounds fair to me.
I actually drive a (couple) of Honda's at the minute but want somethign more substantial because tragically I recently lost my girlfriend and now I realise how fragile we are and how fragile my little CRX is. Obviously the bigger the car the more power you need to shift it and I think the S15 is a good trade-off between weigh, size and power.
Ed, I didnt post on your thread on HR, but I hope you know that my thoughts are with you.....
However......Get a Supra ;)

I'm not sure about a Supra for the simple fact this will be used for work quite alot and that meas 80 miles a day, the supra will devour fuel like nobodys business whereas the S15 can actually return quite good MPG! The Supra is cheaper to buy outright I know but is it that much quicker and better performing because it is a lump of a car?
Ed, If you are ever up this way (well in the next few months as me and Sarah have split up and I am moving back down south) then I will take you for a spin. Or at JAE. Its fast as fook, Handles like its on Rails (probably due to the Tein coilovers) and sounds gorgeous.
