Bren,

Have you ever thought about stocking Janspeed exhausts ?

I know they do systems and de-cat pipes in mild steel and stainless steel for both the S13 and S14. I also know they had some sort of financial problems recently, but I believe they are trading again now.

You might have guessed, but I am currently looking round for exhausts, and I fancy the Janspeed stainless cat-back system for my S13 - so if you are able to help ?

Pete.

Good luck, I've e-mailed them 3 times over the last six months and they haven't replied to any of my e-mails :(

I think they went out of business last year but may have started up again.

OK Bren, I guess Janspeed haven't replied, so if they have gone to the wall, any other suggestions ?

I want a cat-back exhaust, preferably stainless, twin tailpipes, that doesn't cost the silly money that the Japanese ones do ?

I know that there are plenty of "full" systems out there, but there don't seen to be any cat-back ones ?

Pete.

Can I ask why do you want to keep your cat bearing in mind that the S13 regardless of age doesn't have to do a cat test for MOT?

Hi Jezz,

It's a good point - but the fact that it can pass the emissions part of an MOT without a cat still doesn't alter the fact that legally the car should be fitted with one. I just don't want to fall foul of the law on a "drive-by" exhaust sample (which I believe the police are entitled to do?) or something simple like that. And isn't there just the possibility that an over-zealous MOT tester could fail the car for not having the cat fitted, even without doing an emissions test ? Or am I being overly paranoid here ?

Cheers,

Pete.

I have emailed the DOT, and other have recieved a written statement to say that the car should not have a cat test.
If the old bill stop you then they can only use the same data that MOT testers use, so a no cat test. I do however see your point.

I have heard of these drive by tests, but not sure if they are actauly carries out. There was talk of it 4-5 years ago, but dunno what happened.

You are pretty much defeating the object of having a performance zorst though if you keep the cat, unless you get a hi flow one, mucho money though. :(

If you want more info Carnut could probably help you as he's an MOT tester.

Ive heard nothing from Janspeed :(

Ive also got complete Apex (exactly the same as Mongoose) systems in stock for £275 (Mongoose price £327). That gets you a stainless steel mandrel bent turbo drop pipe back system with twi 3.5" tail pipes. It does, however, ditch the cat.

If you want a cat back system then youll have to go Jap. Have a look at the Blitz and HKS range on my website, www.apexperformance.co.uk :)

There was a story in the press last week about the Police / Local Authority (?) in the Bristol area seeking permission to trial roadside emissions testing, with on the spot fines. Sounded like it was for city centre, rush hour type situations.

Sorry can't be more specific but will try to re-find the story!
