I had a quick go last year. It was turbod tho. My immediate impression was a) how responsivethe motor was and b) you had to be bloody quick to react as it al happened so quickly.

Declan (cptsideways on here and driftworks) runs one to quite good effect with some serious mods done to the supsension and geometry.

You called :D

Yep I run one & several more standard ones for the Drift Acadamey school, quite right in that they are twitchy compared to an sbody. But still good fun & quite well designed. Great on kart tracks

Lots of tuning goodies out there too. Mine is running 200bhp with an HKS turbo kit & a Volvo FMIC.

I'd like to see Mazda do an MX5 with the RX-8's Renesis engine in it - now that would be interesting.

If he needs a set of spare alloys with good tyres give me a pm as I have a set not doing anything.

Turbo and supercharger kits can be had from america at reasonable prices from Greddy and Jackson racing respectively etc.

Tomei also make some new cool 256 poncams for it and an emanage is fairly cheap.

I believe the MX5 is more suited to a supercharger and the smoother power delivery would possibly be easier to control but still able to power the back out when you want.

try www.mx5oc.co.uk and driftworks to track down the Mx5 drifters edit not forgetting capt sideways above

Having seen this man in this car barrel around at 100mph totally sideways at Snetterton, yes, indeed MX5's do drift :notworthy

Dazmaz on here has a supercharged MX as well :)

been drifting a m8's standard 1.6 and his other m8's 1.8 the last week. very good fun. they go quite well. but due to the low power of the 2 (standard) cars we had to use crap and thin tyres on the back to be able to keep the back out for any lengeth of time.

i kept running out of steering lock but declan has done some mods to his to give much more lock. think they are somthing like 34* or 36* as standard where as the s13 is 44*. quite good to learn in i think.
would you agree declan? i'm sure john at drift acadamey thinks they are good to learn in as he runs 3 doesnt he?

Superb track/drivers cars and sooooooooo easy to drift. My sis has had the MK1 1.6 (115bhp ver) and the MK2 1.8iS. The Mk1 was more tail happy and raw, and mk2 is a good compromise between comfort and the Mk1. Cracking fun cars!

Try putting 45 Psi in the rear tyres ;)

Top cars for drifty fun and teaching! They've also been pretty reliable. As always, check the cooling system is working well and fit a fan override switch.
The imports have viscous diffs which are OK but you might want something stiffer if you're serious! :D
We use gravel rally tyres at Drift Academy to learn with as they break away very progressively and have loads of tread. Once you've got the hang of it you'll want some long lasting road tyres pumped up a bit. Federals have worked well from what I've heard.
