hello peeps
just noticed that jap import MK2 mr2's are 220bhp (pre 1993) and 247bhp (post 1993) as standard!!!! and with it only being a 2 seater the weight-to-power ratio's must be amazing!
Has anyone driven or raced one of these beats from the east? as these would be a luverly car for the summer!
see ya

They apparently respond well to tuning as well, which is a worry:eek:

just got some stats:
0-60 in 5.7 secs!!!!!
1/4 mile in high 14's!!!!!!
the engine is the same thats in the GT4's
i never realised they were that fast!! i had them down as a hairdresser car but they are faster than 200's!!!!!!:(
might get me one (someday:rolleyes: )
That is of course assuming that you actually come up against a TURBO one. Most of them are just boring old NA sh!te and are as a consequence too bloody slow...
7.7 snore zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Oh theres 60 now :D
Which does make them a hairdressers car.
TURBO one on the other hand well thats different :D:D:D:D

Quite cheap too now. This one here is probably one of the best ones anywhere http://www.phoenixs.co.jp/bigsite/works/sw20_works.html
This one looks a bit tasty too http://www.phoenixs.co.jp/bigsite/works/akagi_works.html Check out the FMIC install (as the engines in the back there are two huge pipes going through where the passenger seat would be

I used to have a MR2 Turbo. It was a revision 2 model (220bhp) with the boost turned up to the same as the revision 3 (1 bar) and gave 239bhp.
Very fast car with a very strong engine. However, the actually weigh more than a 200 by about 40kg.
Handling wise, you had to be committed and drive it, but the suspension was rock hard so in the end I got rid. Still its a very good car.
Re tuning, they were actually not far from at their peak anyway. High flow exhaust, high flow intake etc. These cars were designed to be loud and raw unlike the 200. So really, you have to look straight at bigger turbos and Unichips to get more power. I think the 200 is a better option tuning wise, and to be fair, a better all round car.

The 7.7 secs quoted is for the 173bhp model. A friend who owned a N/A once said to me in reply to the how fast Mister question
"Not as fast as it looks"
If you want speed, get a turbo, no matter what car.

are you sure? That engine spec was only availlabe for one year, most of the others were about 140bhp, had a play with a mate in one a while ago, it didn't hang about at all,
we talked about this in roadkills a couple of months ago

Yeah I'm positive, I did a lot of research before buying one. The power in the later models is very top end, you really had to rev th nuts of it to get anything like decent performance.
Very good engines all the same, made by Yamaha.

quite an interesting one this....
I have had my MR2 turbo for about a year now, and I have to say, I have never had any car that has bothered me on the roads...but I am running ~300hp ;)
if you want to drift, the 200 is the way to go imo...as the MR layout makes for some dodgy snapback when the back end is out.
I have one of those 'dodgy' air scoops aswell lol...they are made by Toms, and help to keep the Blitz lampshade cool.
There aren't that many turbos around (3SGTE engine - same as the Celica GT4) and on the road the differences in styling are subtle....NA car is definitely for the hair stylist though. ;)

Remember going off the lights one time with an Mr2 173bhp model. He went for it while I was asleep, so went along with him and beat him up to 80 at which point he braked cos he needed to be in my lane to go out of town instead of towards a sleepy village. Oh and that was in my old 405 Mi16.
The look on his face was comedy as my "white taxi" pulled past!
