Went to Drift Academy at Brands on Tuesday, absolutely unbelievable :Plug: . Staff were great, as they showed us newbies what life is really about. Brilliant day that WILL be repeated (when Bank Manager allows.) Questions  Will a S14 LSD fit straight to an S13, where can I get one. When's the next day and where/when can I attempt to get a license. Yet again thanks to all at Drift Academy, any one not been try it, sideways round roundabouts is for girls, no transitions!!!! Learnt so much but SOOOOO much more to learn  :notworthy  :notworthy  :notworthy

don't get an s14 lsd in a drift car unless you are going to uprate the diff. for that cost you could have got a proper one. There are some Kaaz diffs available real cheap (from someone other than the official traders here, pm me for details) which would be a great start. otherwise get an open s13 lsd and weld it. thats the cheaper option

don't bother with an S14 diff, just get your S13 one welded

and if you look closely you'll notice most roundabouts have 3 or 4 transitions:)

Sorry Matt T as I said, I have so much to learn, but very willing to do so

 Glad you enjoyed the day!

As has been said, welding is the cheapest and easiest option. The S14 you saw had an uprated viscous diff done by Bara motorsport which costs about £400 to do and is very similar in feel to a mechanical diff without the clonking and adjustment necessary. It's a good compromise.

We have a practise day at Northampton on July 12th. A whole day of drift practise for £85 with limited numbers (max. 15 cars) and you can try for your license at the same time if you want for no extra cost!

See you again soon!

I'll most probably be coming to the next one. Can't go wrong for £85

Huh? Tell me where you can get a pukka LSD for the £150 that an S14 diff will cost?

And whats an "open S13 lsd"?:D:p

Eric, If you currently have an open diff on your s13 and you want a cheap upgrade that will allow you to drift then fit an S13 or s14 stock LSD. They arent great by any means but you CAN drift on them.

If youre a bit more dedicated to drifting then weld an S13 open diff. Its a bit nasty for town driving and car parks but on the open road its fine.

If you have the money get a proper mechanical diff like a KAAZ, Nismo or Cusco diff for around £700-800 inc fitting.

Cheers for that Steve, S14 seems to make sense seeing as it's my everyday car

you won't but your wasting £150 if you get a s14 lsd for drift. Mine is a bag of shite after about 1 min.

ok you got me there... typo by me

They do vary. If you get an old one it is more likely to go all slushy after a few minutes especially in hot weather, although I've driven others which have been very good even after a lot of use.
If you get one from a scrappy you're taking pot luck as to whether it's any good or not.

That's why it is much better to trya nd find an affordable mechanical diff or just get an uprated viscous unit which you can get on an exchange basis from Bara.

And yet mine survived 5 rounds at Silverstone in 2004 and I even won the second clubman round with it...

And yet mine was a useless piece of rubbish imho. Ive got it sat here but id not even sell it for 50 quid as id feel like I was ripping someone off.

Worth saying though that its better on fast tracks, its slower speed the stock ones really show weakness.

mine survived a while too, again good enough for a 2nd place in clubman. however, I'd never buy another one. going straight to a proper LSD is much more economical in the long run.

And Graham came third in the first Option pro competition with a standard S14 one.
