I know its a bit late now but I've just stumbled across this thread on the BTCC forum. A few people stereotyping drifting again

you'll always get drift-haters, as much as f1-haters, btcc-haters, bike-haters etc, can't please everyone all the time I suppose :D the main problem is that the traditional british motorsport fraternity can remain stuck in their ways and dis-regard any new sport as 'tosh' and 'a waste of tyres' blah blah - I find both grip and drift racing interesting in different ways. :)

Love that 5mph comment :D :D

Yeager and Gary reckon that the Pro boys were doing the corners at Snett faster sideways than Gary was grip racing :notworthy

I went to see Taniguchi at Brands Hatch a few weeks ago and they had a btcc round there. frankly i was dissapointed how slow the btcc cars were. Nobs car was faster sideways through most of it. People that can't see the skill involved in that don't really understand motorsport at all. Too many people can only use numbers to quantify how good a driver is.

It's easy to say how fast a driver is because you can time them but how do you quantify how much "style" a driver has whilst they are going round a track???

Sorry if it seems like i'm ranting or if i've gone off topic. I don't really have a point. I just wanted to say something

At the end of the day drifting is an aquired taste but it does require alot of skill and dedication. I don't think they were that harsh really though, i think there are people who dislike it alot more than that. I'm not sure about the 'doing up you car and drifting to impress the ladies' comment though, i mean most girls turn their nose up at my dented old car, and i only do it for the buzz i get when sideways.

It's not all that acquired. Doesn't take much for someone to get hooked after hitching a lift and getting round the track sideways:D

I don't like other motorsports now-they all seem a bit boring now drifting's here:nod:

Yeah Yeager told me that they had footage of me at Snet, and Gary at Snet in the 400brake Evo filmed from exactly the same vantage point, they frame by framed it and timed it, apparently I was quite alot faster despite hangin it out big style, and Gary is no slouch  .. I just had to stop myself registering and winding that bloke up a little, I know I can't expect everyone to understand that it does actually require some skill, but if he's got a nice fast car it'd be nice to see which one of us was better at driving it :wack:

I like btcc as much as the d1 :D

don't forget, the btcc has all sorts of power limitations on classes. Faster cars do not necessarily make for more exciting watching. Look what happened to f1. I actualy thought the clio sport cup was one of the most exciting races to watch!

yeah the clio sport cup was fun to watch and the seat cupra cup too,

btcc has gone down hill a lot in the last 4 years...

Blimey nora - that was an essay LDA!! Well said though - its good to give them a bit more technical info and prove that its not just mindless planting of the throttle and hanging the arse out in "Chav Wagons".

Because this is turning into a bit of a hot topic in the BTCC Forum I think we should post some choice vids of twin drifting from GT Battle in there to show them the support the UK scene is beginning to receive.

In fact - where's that Ueo Vid :p

LDA - I think the word used to describe your contribution to the topic would be:

OWNED

Welll dont boyo :)

Ill wager many of the people on that forum are keyboard warriors and armchair racers. Theyre happy to sit on the grass with a beer and criticise till time ends - but put them on a track and they wouldnt have a clue what do do.

It was a well put together post, but some people cannot or will not change their opinions no matter how much effort you put into it.
Those blokes who are anti Drift on that board have all the standard characteristics of forum flamers, and are therefore a waste of skin - theres no shortage of stupid people, its just a shame we can't use them as fuel.

Surely the only antidote to their venom is to put Bodley Tunes on that forum.
