Our S14 drift car has a new engine (Pauter, Wiseco, Trust h/gasket. ARP mains stud and nut and head stud and nut, Poncams, Greddy ras and Ferrea valve springs and titanium retainers in case you were wondering) and various other goodies including a couple of sets of rims. However I need help in deciding what tyres to run for drifting.

The fronts are 8x18 and the rears 9x18. Ive got some super sticky fronts but arent sure what to run on the back. Graham will be driving so hes got plenty of experience (apparently the more experience the driver has the stickier the tyres need to be) but I dont know if to run 235 or 255s and what rubber. Would 235 Toyo T1-Rs be ok and would a new pair last the day? I really dont want to have to take more than one set of rear rims.

255 is where its at, plenty of grip, i went from 225 on a 9 to 255 on a 9 and the differance is well noticable, can still break traction with my weady amount of power, but can come into corners so much faster

as for makes, i get what i can for free so i am no use there, just dont use f1's on the back

So 255s wont be a problem? Cool :)

Do you think one pair of rear tyres will last the day if theyre new to start with?

For wildtrax? possibly but I would have a spare set of rears just in case.

I was hoping one set of new would last the day and save us messing around having to take multiple sets of rims and having mismatched rubber.

I might suck it and see for the next event and go from there.

They may come away with 'room' fopr another day, but do you really wanna take the chance?

Its more than likely gonna be silky smooth and kind to tires, but we dont know :wack:

I find the best thing is to have 2 sets of rears for practice and then one good set for the competition

Well the car will have two sets of rims, one for road and one for drift. The road will probably have T1Rs so if we run them for drift as well we can pouch the road if we screw the drift before the end of the comp :)

i usually run on polot sports as i can get loads of them free, they work well, not realyl get the change to try out differant types, i only run on what i can get for free, i would like to run a new set of rears but it would make it a very expensive day for me

Will there be a tyre fitter at wildtrax? Does anyone know?

Feel free to take my rears as spares, the ones on your S14a, might only be standard size but will do if needed.

Cheers

We are going T1-S all round for road and T1-S front with 235 ZZ3 rear for drift :)

Just going to order them now.

There will be a tyre fitter, £5 per tyre as far as I know

Got the tyres through :) We will be running the 235 ZZ3s on the rear as planned. They dont look at all streached ont he 9" rim,t he sideways are near perpendicular.

I hope the car has the power to break traction. We will run loads of front and rear camber, soften off (or maybe just disconnect) the front anti roll bar and set the rear dampers to hard and keep the fronts softish.

We have the MOs and their AVS Sports as back ups for the rear :)

i can break traction with 255 with my crap amount of power, it will be fine
