View Full Version : S15 Esva
hi guys
i should hopefully be importing an S15 spec r within the next 2 months from japan, and as there is a model report should be quite straight forward.
can you guys tell me whats needed to get a bog standard s15 through the sva? as far as i can see, it needs:
rear foglight,
cat 1 alarm/immobiliser
mph conversion.
anything else?

darren
As well as what you've said:
Speed limiter has to be removed.
Cat 1 alarm isn't required for the test. However, you won't get insurance without it.
IF its standard, it should just go straight through no probs. If there are any mods, they have to be reversed for the ESVA.

You also need a different ecu and an extra cat to conform to the model report. If its the aero bumper you will also have to fit mesh to prevent any small children from becoming lodged in your radiator. :)
An extra cat?! Surely it passes emmisions with just the one? I remember hearing about the ECU now...

Yep I know, but Im only relating my experience with my own car. The model report specifies the cat and ECU to meet the emissions spec.

Do people plug a UK S14a ECU in there to get it through?

Not sure what the ECU they used was. Wouldnt have thought the 14a one would cope with the bigger injectors and turbo would it?
why does the speed limiter have to be removed??
my supra is an import and still has the stock ECU triggered 112mph speed limiter...(not for long tho :) )

Dont think it does have to be removed just makes sense to do it.

Hmm, suppose it would run, but a bit rich perhaps (which would stuff up the emissions even more) .
I wonder what ECU they do use then  (Australian perhaps ??)..
thanks for your replys guys. where can I find out more on the ECU required and the 2nd cat-converter for the esva? if I can know the spec atleast of the 2nd cat con that would be great.
dont think you'll need a different ecu or another cat
the japs have very strict emissions laws, so in stock guise - jap spec ecu and 2 cats, your car should sail through the test surely?
i thought jap emission laws were strict too... will modelreports.com be able to tell me exactly whats needed?
I got the car ESVA'd in Bristol as they were the only place in December with the model report. Included in the price they charged was the fitting then removal of the ecu and second cat.
I've also been told by an S15 importer that the ECU has to be changed for the test.
thanks for your help guys, does anyone know anything more about the ecu change needed? where this can be obtained from etc?
thanks

booking in form and price list for ESVA testing.
they will give you all the info you need.
My S15 is getting ESVA:ed in Bristol. The company there takes care of all the mods needed to get it through, and then swith back to how it was before :)
Driftmonkey. Is that a Vertex front bumper you have on your S14/15?
thanks guys, and just to confirm the car has to be bog standard? i'm being sent pictures of silvias from japan by my uncle most days, cant wait to import and register mine!

I don't think the car has to be 100% standard to get through ESVA. By the book it probobly should be, but in real life http://speedfreak.nu/forums/images/smiles/eusa_think.gif
talk to the company in Bristol.
If I got it right they could handle some mods to the car and get it past the ESVA.

thanks mate, whats the name/website of the company in Bristol?

I don't know for sure.
Kent Terry of Jap-City (www.japcity.com) is taking care of the UK bit for me.
He said it was located in Bristol.
This company is located in Bristol and has the S15 modelreport.
