mmm... pipex are liked by the guys at work.

You go through BT regardless at some point, but the ISP's can make some difference.

Check out http://www.adslguide.org.uk/ for some reviews/opinions

If I had to go with someone else, I'd probably go with Pipex based on reviews from guys at work.

Hello mate,

I use BT Open World, because I got pissed with calling my ISP and they say its BT at fault so you call BT and they says its your ISP, so I thought kill two birds with one stone and get it all in one.

Had no problems so far. I have one thing to say about broadband, I never never ever go back to 56k. woo hoo bring it on 512Kb

Are u in a Telewest area?
If so it may be worth looking into Bluyonder. Everyone who has it is really impressed, and ive seen the stats as i work for them.
I also believe it may be cheaper than ADSL.

If in doubt ask Bren as i know he has it, and will give you an honest answer

I decided between Pipex and Plusnet. Went with Pipex in the end and haven't got a complaint really (plus no connection fee!). I've heard Plusnet use network throttling software with peer2peer connections so this could effect you if u like downloading (WinMX etc...). Plusnet seem to offer more for you money though, but the download thing was enough to sway me to Pipex.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I'll prolly go with pipex because with BT you have to hold the contract for 12 months, whereas with Pipex you can cancel at any time (but incur a fee). Plus Pipex is cheaper ;)

Check this link out

http://www.xtreme.pipex.net/adsl/sales/solutions/solo.shtml

£23.44 subsciption

Plusnet are 22.99 tho they do an even cheaper option (which is completely useless for peer2peer connection) for 20.99.

:)

Blueyonder launches 1Mbps service
Posted on Monday, 17th June 2002 at 12:16 BST by James Welsh
Telewest has announced the launch of its 1Mbps broadband internet service following successful trials in Scotland. The service has been launched at £35 per month if customers have another Telewest service, or £39.99 per month if it is a standalone service.

That price is £10 on top of Blueyonder's 512kbps service, and interestingly is significantly lower than the £49.99 per month charged by Britain's biggest cable operator, ntl:home, for their 1Mbps service.

Existing blueyonder customers can upgrade on the ISP's website; for new customers, the installation charge is a standard £50. One additional benefit of the 1Mbps service is a freephone technical support line.

David Hobday, sales and marketing director at Telewest Broadband, said: "1Mb
is like viagra for your PC, providing a mind-blowing internet experience that other service providers simply can't keep up with. For the first year, it also works out nearly £140 less than BT's speediest home ADSL service, which is only half as fast."

"BT has previously questioned consumers' interest in going faster, but it's their only response when they can't get out of first gear themselves. Our standard 512kbs blueyonder service now has over 169,000 customers and will continue to be our most popular broadband choice but, with 1Mb, we've also got one foot on the accelerator."
