View Full Version : Buying S15
Hi guys,
I'm kinna new on here and am thinking of buying an S15, had my eye out for one for a while now, found one i like and an about to buy it
Just wanted to know if there was anything i should be aware of before i go for it???
Cheers guys,
Check out insurance for standard and modded.
Be aware that model specific parts may take six weeks to be shipped from Japan unless you pay loads for air shipping.
Other than that, its pretty much the same as S14s if its already in the country.
One thing I would do before handing over money. Take a note of the full VIN number and phone Nissan GB customer services and get tham to confirm the build date. If its different to the 'declared date of manufacture' on the V5, you could get it for less (as, obviously, its older than they are making out).
Oh, and welcome to the BB.

New here myself, still researching S15's, but I know for sure I want one! :D
Just a quick question about performance parts and servicing really - I've seen a lot of ad's (in Banzai, etc) for 200sx S13/14 parts, but nothing for the 15.. Are parts harder to come by, or are they relatively standard between the 14 & 15? Seen a few specialist places, but the majority don't list the S15.. I know it is rare over here (bit of an understatement!) so I just want to be sure I can get my future car serviced by someone that knows what they're doing.
Cheers :)
Ben

S15 has the about the same engine as a S14 except for the turbo and some small minor things, both are using the SR20DET engine...
Performance parts are pretty okay to get as well :)
And Topicstarter, make sure its a Spec-R :P
Yes - the engine is pretty much the same as the S14a.
Parts can be difficult to get if you DON'T want uprated aftermarket versions. When I had a tw*t slam into my rear bumper, its replacement took eight weeks to get over here from Japan. I tried to go for an aftermarket one (which you can get quicker), but my insurers weren't having it.
Insurance is ok if you look around and depending where you are, servicing isn't too much of a problem - I use Japanese garages though as they know the S14/a's and can get details on S15's easily. Personally, I go around with the S15 workshop & service manual (see Ebay) on cd rom and leave it with them - if thay have a problem then they just look on the pc!
I have had my S15 Spec R for 3 1/2 years now and have had no major problems with it at all (touchwood!). I just seem to go though rear tyres alot....
Hope this helps!

Aye, knew they used the same engine, hence why I thought most of the internals should be the same and upgradeable. Thanks :)
There is a lovely gunmetal S15 Spec-R on Newera atm, think I'll have to chat up my bank manager... ;)

Absolutely no need to go to Ebay for any 200SX manual.
S15 Service Manual (http://download.jull.net/s15_service_manual.zip) 25MB :)

Ooh, nice, I'll have to get that DL'd a printed off, cheers chap!
So what about all the other parts, i have read to post about interchangable parts, does this mean that if you need mechanical parts for your S15, you can get S14a parts from Nissan or the like??
Nicely - Cheers for the manual mate.
Its vitually the same engine as the S14/a. This means that, yes, a great many S14/a parts can be used. Be aware that you'll need to check though. The turbo, for example, is completely different.
What about other parts, i.e. suspension, brakes etc??
Bren (Apex Performance) could probably answer that more accurately. I would put odds on yes.
What about other parts, i.e. suspension, brakes etc??
Yep suspension and brakes are all identical. Not much difference really off the top of my head. ECU, Turbo, Injectors, WMIC, gearbox and not much else.
this one (http://www.neweraimports.com/carDetails.jsp?carId=93) looks nice
The Fiat Coop boys reckon it's FATF!!

Oh well, I wanted that one too.. :(
Found another one before that tho, with a nicer kit, so I'll be keeping that under wraps for now.. I prefered the silver, but this one has rarer parts ;) Besides, seems like Newera are getting their hands on S15's regularly now, so either way I'll get my hands on one :D
Must commend your taste tho, cos I do love that car :)

Unfortunately the blue S15 on Gt-culture is sold now, I wanted it so bad but couldnt afford 16k :(
Your car looks sweet with the kit, rims and suspension btw, real drift slag style
Cheers for the torque imports link though, havent seen that site before
arry - Car arives end of June, only going on a boat at the end of this month
JulesS14200 - really liked that S15 on Gt-c myslef, but like you struggled with the £16k, i liked the Top Secret kitted one, but wasnt keen on the white.
guys the one at torque is the one i had my holding deposit on, but 2 days before it arrived had confirmation of baby on way so we decided we would want bigger back seats/boot, spend a little less and have a few mods thrown in to stop me spending spending spending.
we went for a test drive anyway as we had waited so long for it to come and its a lovely drive.
apart from a couple of minor marks it was pretty tidy, even looking under the car inc all around the suspension etc it was VERY clean like a new car would be.
even tho we had already agreed we wernt having it after seeing it and driving it me and the wife spent a good couple of hours of changing our mind to having it/not having it to the point of falling out about it :D ............really hard decision not to get it but it will make someone a fine car
def worth a look if you thinking of an s15
Silver newera one looks lovely too bud im sure your gonna love it

Hi Guys,
S15's are certainly the hottest Jap import of 2005, and rightly so. i wanted to keep the TS kitted white one, but she went today. Yea the Blue S15 was expensive but it was purchased from a Japanese dealer, Garage Defend was a bit special.
Will be on the look out this week for some more tasty examples
ben
Thanks for all your comments guys.
that car looks sweet! makes me even hapier that i decided to keep mine!
well done you wont be dissapointed in the car niether love mine to death such a nice all round car to drive different to all the other cars our there at the mo and although a performance car in comparison to my previous car (evo 6 ) its so much more of a day to day car to use and get on with and much moreeconic and although slightly less power not far behind the evo in terms of performance in a straight line! just cant get to grips of not being able to through it around like the evo! :wack:
still worth the sacrific in my opinion!
