This just appearing on the wires Friday teatime:

Around fifty drivers, clocked at speeds of over a hundred miles per hour, have been leaving an Essex magistrates court with mixed reactions to the handling of their cases.

The conveyor belt style of prosecution, which has seen all the motorists dealt with in one day, is a new move by Essex police to crack down on speeding.

The group, which includes motorcyclists, have been appearing at Witham Magistrates since this morning, accused of speeding on the A130 near Chelmsford.

Heard that myself on Radio 1 @ 18:00 was doing about 10mph (about as fast as you can get on A12 at that time  ).

May have to drive with a bit more caution when coming back from Halway House meets from now on ;)

Perheps it's time to get one of those snooper thingys.

I don't think they are out there with radar, but there are three unmarked cars that patrol the road.

One is a blue 5 series BMW, one is a red Mondeo and the other is a green VW Golf.

These are the ones I know for sure, there may be others

Has anyone noticed there has been not one mention of one single accident, "speed related" or not, on this stetch of road? I don't know it, but I gather it's just been built. If so, why has it been built to be dangerous, and if it isn't dangerous, why shouldn't people go as fast as they bloody well like down it?

If fifty people (well, fifty people got caught, more like fifty thousand people) can get down the same stretch of road at double the speed limit without causing any accidents, then the speed limit is too low!

yeah, most people who were caught doing over a ton got fined and a few weeks ban, a motorcyclist who got caught doing 130 mph got banned for 7 weeks and a £300 fine which really considering the speed is bugger all.
A few years ago I got caught doing 62 in a 30 and got fined £220 and six points , it was my first offence and had I not have had a solicitor with me I would probaly have been banned.
My mate got caught doing 120 mph down the M62 he got banned for six months !
