View Full Version : JDM Navigation System on S15 Question.
Greetings from Moscow.
I just purchased and S-spec S15 in Moscow and felt reckless enough to drive it on the icy/snowy moscow roads.
As part of the package there is an in-car navigation system/tv with a screen that pops up out of the dash - all very exciting - don't have this in my old Z. the major problem is that all of the screens and all of the buttons (except one that says TV on it) are in Japanese.
Does anyone know if there is an online manual for these things (even in japanese as I could use google to translate) or if anyone has any idea on how to make it do anything except show fuzzy lines or a Japanese menu screen?
Many thanks for your help...

PS: I will be in the UK in 2 weeks time for 10 days and would like to take the opportunity to pick up some aftermarket parts - does anyone know anywhere in/around cornwall that would be a good source? Cheers.
Greetings from SXOC!
I don't know of where you can get instructions for the Navigation. You could contact one of the UK/US Jap car importers to get an instruction manual possibly. Alternatively try www.nissansilvia.com and see if any Aus/NZ S15 owners have one in English - the S15's were sold over there from 1999-2002.
My S15 came without the Navigation by the way!
I don't know of any decent Nissan garages/parts dealers in Cornwall. Most I know are around Bristol, London, Northampton/Leicester or up in Manchester/Liverpool area. Why not talk to Bren or Dan@SRB Power (go to Traders Forum on this site) and get parts you need from them??
What colour is your S15? Is it standard or modified?

From what you're describing, it sounds like a third party addition. Try to see if you can find out some manufacturer info off the unit.

Its was a factory option. I think Gareth Brunt has it fitted in his car, though so you could wait for him to see this thread or PM him, he might be able to help if you ask him nice. Trouble is all of the info in the system will be for Japan though so wont be much use to you.
Well, you learn something everyday!
Thanks so far :) My car is 'normal coloured' but I'm not entirely sure of the correct name for the colour (metallic slate grey).
I'll follow your advice and send a few PMs and see where it gets me.
Nice to be part of a friendly board :)

if the sat nav was used in japan, then it will have a jap database, so even if you could work it, the car would still be lost!
if it is an aftermarket bit of kit, then you may be able to download a russian database - but you will need to know the manufacturer
Its most likely to be Nissan factory fit one, 99% sure it won't work outside Japan. I had a factory fitted one in the R34 and it doesn't work, however on the R34 you can use it as a T.V. screen. By hacking into the wiring.
more useful... Hacking into the wiring sounds like the only real option. I did hear that there was a guy in Moscow that had done something to get the telly working.
What would be nice would be an engine management display screen (I use a techtom display on my 300ZX which I really like). I remember seeing an HKS product that offered something similar with TV output - but of course it was also only in Japanese. If anyone knows something flash like that I'd be happy to hear about it.
As for navigation in Moscow - I don't think any system could cope with the insanity of the one way system and the fact that every junction makes 'spagetti junction' look like a well planned sensible idea.

This is factory option, although you forgot to mention CD is also in English :)
I dont know of a manual, but have never looked as I just asked a friend to explain all of the important buttons to me :)
You can use it as a TV/DVD screen in your contry, but not as Navi as I do not believe that this has been cracked even for the UK as yet, due to the low numbers that come with them fitted, compared to something like the 350Z that can now be converted to work in the UK.
My suggestions are just have a play, as everything aside from the navi is pretty self explanitory and the navis no good to you any way!
