Just got this from a techie friend. Yahoo tried it a while ago but were eventually shamed into emailing all its users to tell them what it had done.
I can't remember my original settings, I usualy don't allow any passing on of information, however when I checked it looked like this is correct.
"Microsoft has done it again for users of their 'free' service Hotmail. It seems that the software giant has decided to make money on Hotmail after all, by changing ALL USERS options to the 'Please share my personal details with SPAM Companies' setting...even if you explicitly requested otherwise while setting up your account. If you don't want your Hotmail Inbox inundated with SPAM in the not too distant future, log in to Hotmail, go to the 'Options' page, 'Personal Settings', and unselect the appropriate checkboxes."
