Check this out, looks like the police may have to find some other way of generating revenue.

Wierd,
The two new cameras on Ipswich Rd. in Colchester have both been covered up for the last couple of weeks, maybe the times are a changin'

I wonder how much of our council taxes went towards this exercise in futility?

Abso-bleedin-lutely fantastic.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hope that applies to Cameras on Motorways and dual carriageways as well. The A14 will no longer be a license loser!!!! YAY!!!!

Being a synical bastid though, I suspect that for all those gatsos that are hidden behind trees, it just means the local forestry department will be busy.:(

To be honest though, if you can't spot a bright yellow camera at 100 yards when doing silly speeds you shouldn't be doing silly speeds. I haven't been flashed by a camera yet, because I always seem to spot them in time... However sometimes slamming the brakes on is more dangerous than speeding.

Whats Silly speed?

Spotting them at 100yds shouldnt be a problem, reacting and slowing in 100yds might be a little more difficult.

Still, its a step in the right direction for us motorists :)

Silly speed is anything where you know you'll lose your license, but don't care :)

Excellent news, so the DOT has half a brain after all, maybee they could use the ones they dig up and stick them outside a school or something.

It is indeeded awsome news, and there is supposedly an article on it in the Mail today (which I haven't read).

But - can you actually see plod spending money removing the things? They were supposed to paint them all bright colours and there is still plenty of grey ones about.

Still maybe they will be less inclined to replace the ones that the public see as unacceptable and register their protest with a violent manifestation.....

I have a new yellow one down my road, very tasteful.

But better news still, I've just read on the Zed board that Un-marked persuit cars are to be scapped too. :)

I think speed Camera's have been gone about the wrong way... For starters if you get caught on one, you have to PROVE your innocence - and that is often difficult and expensive. This goes against all forms of law in all other civilised countries, where you are innocent until proven guilty. This takes the pi$$ out of the word 'Justice', and proves that the Government are determined to turn motorists into criminals, and not even give us the basic rights that rapists and muggers receive.

Also, I'm against the points you can get from them. It makes it possible to lose your license for one offence, if four different camera's catch you down 1 stretch of road! If the fines were doubled, and the points completely scrapped I think the whole system would be a lot better.

At the end of the day a camera does not have to objectivity of a Policeman (and even that I seriously doubt these days - with perfomance figures driving their bonuses, encouraging the filth to do us for trivial or just plain made-up offences)

In summary.. Bollox to camera's, bollox to the old bill, and bollox to so called 'justice'.

the law has got out of hand, given free hand by gov. to make money
however in case of children being run down etc,i think they a bloody good idea
that said the speed camera placed just after hadleigh is completly unfair
its a 30 limit you go over a set of lights 20 yards later there is a sign post for the crossways and guess whats hidden behind this sign
free cash generator
nearly caught myself out and i was driving normally
you dont need to be second guessing your speed all the time
driving is supposed to be relaxing

Read in the local rag last night that Staffordshire Police don't consider any of their cameras to be in the wrong place so won't be moving any of them. Apparently their policy has always been to put them in accident blackspots.

Yeah, b0llocks.

What about all the ones on straight dual carriageways that have been coupled with a reduction in the speed limit to 60mph

And what about the camera near me, about 15 metres into a 40 limit, hidden behind a tree (as far as I know there's never been an accident here......EVER!!!!!!!!!!!)

I think this is one of those stories that makes excellent headlines and brings some good publicity on the government for a while, but the reality will be that cameras and their use purely as a means of generating revenue, rather than improving road safety (on what are already the safest roads in Europe) will continue as before, and we, as motorists, will continue to get mugged by the police and the government.
