I know that this is boring to most but I have a question to those out there in the know!

I'm running Outlook 2000 on 98SE and it hangs at the opening Outlook screen. Have tried reparing aswell as removing/reinstalling Office but with no change.

As you may gather, I know little about PCs(Intel on the inside idiot on the outside etc) but could this problem be something to do with my Outlook profile being corrupted?

I've got all my contacts/calendar/emails etc backed up on CD so I'm not bothered about losing the Outlook information on my HDD.

Any ideas of how to sort this problem without reformatting my HDD would be much appreciated as I'm getting close to severly REBOOTING my baige box.

Not downloaded anything out of the ordinary recently. Is it possible to reinstall Outlook 2000 as a seperate component if I have Office 2000 Pro? The hanging at splash screen has happened once B4. Managed to somehow fix it by reinstalling Office 2000 Pro as a package a couple of times. But no such luck this time!

As simanc26 says you'll have to reinstall outlook on its own. Go to add/remove in control panel, and remove outlook from there, then install it again from your CD.

Cheers for the advice - I'll give it a go. Any ideas if reinstalling outlook as a seperate component will have a different effect from reinstalling Office as a package?

Which ever way you install it the MSI (install routine) will figure out whats going on so there will be absolutely no difference either way you install it :P

I just know it worked for me, MSI or not. :p

Praise be.
On the 4th attempt (count them  ) at reinstalling Outlook it finally decided to play!
Thank god for the randomness of computers!
Cheers for your input people.:)
