Sounds good :)
Although 30 mins sessions is a bit long. My car can only do 15 mins at a time, 20 at a push :(
Just had a bit of a moment when I saw the tuesday bit
As tuesday is normally my busiest day lecturing and there's only so much directed study you can give :wack:
Then I realised
Its easter break :D :D :D
Just rang, but they were closed, so will ring them tomorrow and book  :D
Cant wait, and with this and the pod it looks like its going to be a motorsport march  :D
Sounds good :)
Although 30 mins sessions is a bit long. My car can only do 15 mins at a time, 20 at a push :(
What gives up after 15mins?
Well 7 * 20 min sessions for you.
It will be a change for me "only" doing 30mins .. instead of 40  must have more self control, and make the pads last over a day :indiff:
I would SERIOUSLY suggest NOT putting everyone in the same session :indiff:
This is VERY missguided to be very honest as knowing the experience levels of some on the list they should be squarely in the novice group (no offence) I just think it would be incredibly selfish of us to endanger other track user, the novice drivers and ourselves.
People should be able to put themselves in the group they feel comfortable in!
How many track days so you recone Vez does it take before you are no longer a novice?
I see you point though Vez. Its not realy fair to go out as a novice in the fast group especialy if they are some seriously quick race preped cars in it too. Silverstone is a STUPIDLY fast circuit
People should be able to put themselves in the group they feel comfortable in!
You are probably right, its a different leauge all together than Elvington or something where we could all be in the same group.
Are you coming Vez? Day after Easter Bank holiday Monday?
I hope your not refering to me Vez ;)
When i get my car on the road i'll have a better idea of if i can do this. Sounds great and although a bit of money you get alot of track time. As Jez say's i'm not sure i'd want to push the car for 30mins a time for 7 sessions. But gives you a few warm up laps and cool down laps i guess...
What I would suggest is speaking to the track day organisers and asking them if its possible to switch groups depending on your own percieved performance if you are unsure. Ask if you can start in the novice group and change groups should you feel you would be comfortable moving up a level. Many track day organisers will accomodate this.
Its hard to put a "number of track days" before changing to a different group to be honest, as its all dependant on skill and how fast you feel comfortable going around the circuit.
Remember the higher the group you go in the higher the average lap time. As SM states, driving around elvington or an airfield is a completely different ball game to driving around a circuit, airfields by there nature are forgiving.
I for one, would be very content to enter in the novice group after asking the question of if I can change group should I feel the need :)
Remember your paying to have fun, and you are not racing each other, dont feel pressured into a group you are not comfortable in :)
Totally agree, that way you can learn the track and build up your performance throughout the day in a safe manner. The last thing you want is to push it and crash...
Just noticed this is on a weekday which makes it difficult as i'm still in my first six months of this job...
Talk to the boss i guess.

Yeah, I was told they have quite a few full-on trackday cars, I'm not actually bothered which group I go in, although I would like to be on track with other similar specced 200's to gauge myself off. that rules out Jez/Bren on this power circuit then.

Changing groups after starting in the Novices should be possible depending on final number - chat to the lovely Mel when you ring up to book. CONFIRMED AS POSSIBLE
Tell me if you have booked/paid please and I'll update the list  Also tell me if you are in the wrong list :whip: I mentioned it to the Fiat boys as the more the merrier always
Booked just now. :D I bet you 'the lovely Mel' is at least 40 - she sounds too classy and mature to be younger. ;)
I booked myself into the novice category, which I expect will be fine. You can change between categories very easily during the day - just see Mel :)
I would like to be on track with other similar specced 200's to gauge myself off
Your approaching the ethos of a track day completely incorrectly then  It should not be competitive
Depending what is said about my car tommorow will depend on whether I will be attending, but rest assured, I will space my self apart from anyone who deems themself "competitive" as I dont want anyone spinning in front or behind me trying to prove anything
I would like to be able to go round copse on the same side of the track as the apex :wack:
Just keeping the car on the black stuff is enough clannenge for me and much presure a nice quite bit of track to play on
Nothing to do with me monstering down behind you I hope
Your approaching the ethos of a track day completely incorrectly then  It should not be competitive  Oh get off your high horse, you tart :D Kev's not talking overt competition, he's talking about the comparison you automatically make with others. Are you telling me you got no pleasure from overtaking people at Silverstone? I've not noticed you having a go at Bren & Jez for their needling of each other about who's going to be the faster. ;)
I will space my self apart from anyone who deems themself "competitive" as I dont want anyone spinning in front or behind me trying to prove anything :rolleyes:I had two spinners in front of me at Trax, despite the blatently un-competitive ethos :)

Hmmmm... Elvin :ghey: ton or Silverstone, the home of British motorsport? ;)
Been there, done that
;)
Oh get off your high horse
God its not pink shirt day again today is it? :D
I just want people to enjoy themselves and not get scared off from coming thats all, trying to play the macho stuff down a bit to get more interested, its all about marketing ;)
And yes I took great pleasure overtaking the first car infront of me being a white S14, after much competitive banter from yourself :p
Ive booked :)
Vez,
I for one are going out to kick Jezs ass. I think most people see track days as a competitive event. Just because you cant overtake under braking or through corners doesnt mean you cant drive competitively. Its the buzz of getting past 'superior' machinery that gives me the biggest thrill on a track. I think the majority of people who do a number of track days feel the same thing.
I would suggest you stay well out of my way if youre not driving competitively 'cause I for one will be! :D
Thats not to say I condone dangerous driving, Im not. Plenty of space should always be made between you and other drivers and I will be at thefront of the lynch crew chasing anyone who does a dangerous overtaking manvour. But that also doesnt mean that Im going grannie driving either. Im going to get some scalps ;)
Nope, all about me looking down at my speedo and going "ooo Im doing a 130mph" and not noticing Id passsed my braking point
Believe me I was shitting bricks for you watching your four wheel drift around the corner as I clipped the apex gaining on you rapidly
Yeah I know Bren, but trying to attract the track newbie is the order of the day as I still want to get the SXOC trackday off the ground at somepoint, and all the macho competitive talk will put new starters off, just trying to look after the bigger picture :)
And yes I took great pleasure overtaking the first car infront of me being a white S14, after much competitive banter from yourself :p
This from the man with 80bhp more, who was too scared of losing his mechanical performance advantage to consider putting standard 6" rims back on for a day at Elvington...? ;) :p
I dont have a set of standard rims to put back on  But ill let you wear your DO1J's at Silverstone though ;)
I'm sure that Kev could lend you some - he's got enough :wack:
If any track newbies are reading this then dont be put off by others who have more experience. Everyone starst somewhere and although talk of highly competitive drivers may seem intimidating youll find that on the day itself the faster more experienced drivers will, in the main, be very cortious and forgiving of new drivers leaving them with a lot of room and with no bullying going on
You get the occasional tw@t but the vast majority of experienced drivers respect new drivers space and give them a wide bearth :)
Come on down and join the fun! :D
You lot and your banter :D
I'm sure that Kev could lend you some - he's got enough :wack:
Yes but I dont want to be driving around the track on canvas :wack: :p
Yes but I dont want to be driving around the track on canvas :wack: :p
I'm sure your superior driving would still enable you to prevail, in a non-competitive sense, o' course ;)
Yes but I dont want to be driving around the track on canvas :wack: :p
Aye, you dont want canvas... you want steel belting  :wack:
I'm sure your superior driving would still enable you to prevail, in a non-competitive sense, o' course ;)
Ill wear a pink shirt so you can chase me :ghey: Ill bait you like a mouse looking in on a covered cheese board :wack:
I dont think this trackday is for track virgins, I wasnt "marketing" it at them.
Good to know your considering it though Vez
Competetive? Well sort of, I like to push, if I didnt I just drive on the roads, I dont do "traffic light GP's" that often, If somebody is "racing" me on the road and the conditions dont allow I let them go and kill themselves/somebody else.
When Bren passed me at Elvington, despite not having a hope in hell of staying with him I still tried, and spun, but it was "safe" to do so. I wouldnt have pushed that hard at Silverstone as spinning is not an option. On all my trackdays I have only ever had spins at Elvington, 1 moment at Bruntingthorpe, 0 moments at Castle Coombe or Silverstone. What does that say about the level of "commitment" I give with respect to the conditions? If/When you pass me at Silverstone, despite your better machine, I would see how close I could keep to you. I seem to remember you and Bren "playing" at Silverstone last year. As long as you have respect for the conditions and other track users you CAN be competitive, without being a c0ck! Bren and Jez did at Donnington even in the wet, its all down to respect.
The rules for gold track days are "Once you have started braking its YOUR corner, take the line you want, allow those infront to take theirs, once the corner is fully exitied you may make a passing manouver(sp??)" I didnt ask if overtaking is only on one side (usual) or by consent only (like BAT)
Yak? Are you considering this trackday ??
I'm sure that Kev could lend you some - he's got enough :wack:
Vez, you are welcome to borrow a set of std rims, you'll just have to sort some tyres, same goes for others. I have 4 sets now, only "need" 3 sets, I'll glady store them for you if you dont wear them out, depending on my situation. Shout me if your serious. I think I'll be storing a set of elvington wheels for Dr Bob soon, it makes no differance to me, ask Tenman he has seen my house.
Ill happily stay with my 245s, and TomM can wear his DO1J's ;)
If the issue with my car can be identified and resolved before the day then I will come, Im not going to blow my car up for being ":ghey:" :)
Yak? Are you considering this trackday ??
Yeah, considering it.
Just wander f my CA will take 3 hours spanking around Silverstone... brakes probably wont but im getting the hang of srubbing of speed in other ways :wack:
Whats wrong with your car Vez?
DUnno should find out tommorow :)

Kev / Bren / anyone , where are you leaving tools, spare wheels etc? we chaining stuff together again :)
Yep can do, I might drop down to Novice, I've left it to Mel.
I regard myself as inter, rightly or wrongly, but the cars on this day may be much quicker than other trackdays I've been on so might be better in novice group.
I'm interested in going, i'm definatly a novice though, i've only driven around goodwood! I'd hope i could keep it on the black bit though
Just remembered i drove a formula ford round brands hatch 10 years ago too :)
Is this track day open to anyone? I have a few mates who'd probably enjoy it, not 200 owners though
I might also drop down to novice. Fast though our S13 is it doesnt stand a chance against full race Radicals etc
Aye, we'll leave SM to play with the race spec cars :D
Booked just now. :D I bet you 'the lovely Mel' is at least 40 - she sounds too classy and mature to be younger. ;)
I would guess that too, but she is still lovely, lovely enough to give us a FREE SXOC GARAGE in the pitlane.

Top News
Great Response Guys, nice Turnout
Its Bank holiday the day before, Well Good Friday/Sat/Easter Sunday/BH Monday .... so no excuses for not prepping the car properly
I've managed 6 wheels/tyres in the car before, But I'll have to find out how to get 8 in there :wack: removal of the front passenger seat maybe.
Either that or buy a towbar :ghey:
Remember function over form kev, so I expect a towbar before silverstone and mascrat ;)
eh? more rubber?
I would have though Silverstone would be a lot easyer on the tyres than Elvington unless you over cook them and melt em. Im certainly NOT going to be doing the 12/10th driving that I do at Elvington
This track has claimed 1 200 already.
Remember function over form kev, so I expect a towbar before silverstone and mascrat ;)
Well removing the passenger seat will let me have the room for more wheels, and is a free mod ;) Towbars cost ££ I'll see what happens. I can squeeze another 3 wheels behind the drivers seat, but the seat ends up to far forward, fine for passengers, not ideal for driver. Are you expecting to go hom on the F1's you arrive and drive Vez ??
Yak, yes it will be easier on tyres but I dont want to use nankangs, dunlops and Star Millenium tyres I have. And cant afford DJ01's at this time.
I have 3 Good Year NCT 5's from Hadyn  maybe 4 depending if the 4th is repairable, these are on immaculate condition rims which seems a waste  They are part worn and have 2-3mm before the wear markers, so 5-6mm of useable tracktread. I expect to use 1mm per 30min session, this is based on the 1mm per session i wore on F1's @ trax (2 * <20min sessions) Hence the need for more rubber :D
Scouts say "Be Prepared"
Yes Kev I fully expect to return home on the same tyres and them to still be on the car for road use for quite a while too :D
Humm I cant remember how much my Toyo wore at Trax. Not a lot as for as I rember but they were a bit melty :wack:
Hopefully the track will be a bit cooler this time..... but not wet
Oh and I didnt get to talk to mell :( I think it was onr of the instructors I was talking to....

This sounds like fun. It would be good to put faces to names etc too. I'm not to sure about silverstone, seems very daunting. I've done a couple of track days, but nothing this big. If you lot are going for the novice group, is there a chicken3rdgearonly group?
I'm thinking being on a weekday it should keep cocknose fools away, i'd rather share a track with a mega quick radical than a slow nova being driven by a knob.
Hmmm, need some convincing. My new years resolution is to do lots of trackdays, so i think i might join you.
How is silverstone on the tyres? I've got a new set of contisports, 205s. I ran a set at Goodwood, and they were fine, but i took it quite easy. I can imaging the surface is much better at silverstone? I'm not really in the league of replacing a set of tyres every trackday...
You should come and join the fun.
We are in the novice group, and that should be fine for you, you can request some instruction and if you mention your a trackday (near) virgin, then you might get the instruction cheaper.
Tyres/brakes, you have 3.5 hours of tracktime in a 7 hour day, thats twice a F1-GP in time. I always work on needing new brakes and tyres for the way home, although I'm particually hard on them. This is something I'm hoping to improve. Silverstone should be less hard on tyres (long straights) but harder on brakes, than a slower, twistier track.
Kev, you need to watch that DVD petrol has, it will explain where all your tyres go :wack:
Kev, you need to watch that DVD petrol has, it will explain where all your tyres go :wack:
I just need to find time to go round and pick it up  Seen it briefly.
The truth is I know where they go, too much fun-time, not enough smooth driving :annoyed: Its just remembering that on the track.
Brakes dont like 45min sessions, thats where they go.
Again, just have to remember that on the day :annoyed:
Its just too much fun :annoyed:
And on a completly different note .... ITS SNOWING !!!!
Angle of slip, watch that chapter and take note ;)

Which DVD is that, Vez?
Yay! Got the time off work - Going to book up tomorrow :)
Real shame its sessioned 30 mins. Theres no way my car will go that long. I could do about 10 mins at Combe before the brakes/tyres were overheated...
29-03-2005 Silverstone GP - 2 groups only - 30 mins on track, 30 mins off track all day Noisy day

Yep, no noise limit, so lots of race prepped GT3's .....
sh1t box! Now i'm proper nervous. Ph well, i've booked my place so no turning back.
I just have one question i'd like a second opinion on:
I have standard suspension except for eibach springs. I also have an old helmet that i got free from a top bloke at a drift practice last year (can't remember who), so do I, get a new decent helmet, or get a pari of ARB for the 200? I'm only planning to keep the 200 till the end of this year, but do at least 5 or 6 trackdays, whereas the lid will last me a good few years? Not sure which way to go. I could get both, but can't really justify the cost to myself. :( (considereing tyres, fuel, brakes etc on trackdays, on top of oil and maintenance etc)
The ARB's will probably pay for themselves in 5/6 trackdays, the tyre wear will be much more even.
I did 6 trackdays last year on 100% standard suspension :wack: lean-tastic.
You should "need" the helmet, its just on your head, your not planning on crashing are you??
I just use a old M/C friends lid, its fine.
Id buy a helmet. If the one youve had has been involved in a previous impact or its not a perfect fit then it wont protect you as it should
Thats is very true. You can get another car, you cant get another head

I cant say I'm surprised, 3 weeks before the event, even Elvington would be full. Are you on the waiting list then? Do you know how many are infront of you? There was "a few" places left about a month ago when I last asked.

There seemed little point in going on the waiting list when I asked as it was 'quite long'. I saw little point in getting much booked before the car was running.

I just the info emailed to me from Mel about the day.
I'm a bit worried that is says there is a 105db noise limit. It was advertised as a noisey day. And i have no time to refit the cat. :(
Looks like its gonna be a good day nevertheless. :)
I think (but not sure) that 105db is VERY noisy.
105db is bloody loud - you should be fine
105? Ah ffs :annoyed: :annoyed: Weve just refitted a decat pipe in place of the decat silencer but last time it was tested like that it was 107 on the dot :annoyed: Ill have to take the decat silencer with me, just in case.
Ooops thats a bit loud Bren! You tested a stock ol dmongoose yet?
Do they usualy test at 3/4 revs?
My apexi N1 used to sound pretty quiet (well, relatively ) but it seems to have gradually got a lot noisier, is there any chance it would exceed the 105 db limit as I really have no idea
Ill bring a couple of spare decat silencers :)

cool, thanks. I should be okay, i'm certainly not planning on having to do anything but you never know! :)
Ill be turning up with too many tools (and wheels) as usual too :wack:
lol, can bren bring some more bits :wack: Like another decat silencer :wack:
:D Apexi GT Spec :D
You got some NGK irridiams in? and some octane booster?

Well done that man!!! Thanks
Ill have a similar amount of shit in my boot too ;)

So then, my krypton factor challenge: How do i fit in my car 4 wheels, tool box plus extras, trolley jack, lid, lunch, fuel can? (s14) the main concern are the wheels. :indiff:
Which reminds me of my other question. Fuel. Is there a Shell near by? Or do you lot normally take a can. I'm thinking of getting a 20/25l (not sure what litreage) big green metal jerry can to take, but not sure if it is entirely necessary?
Ill have a huge Jerry can (maybe 2) of Optimax to take down with me  If you are coming from the north the last optimax emporium on the way down is on the M6.
Just remember not to do a Bren brim the tank just before going on the track and wander why there is a smell of petrol in the car :wack:
Depends if it was a mistake, it was down as "noisy day" no limit on the website, maybe the info we got sent was copied from a day with a noise limit.
I'll take my bung to be on the safe side.
Looking forward to it :D Sunshine Booked :D
Ah ah ah ah feck, FUEL!!
We are taking the S13 on a trailer so we can take it down with track tyres on its rims but that means we cant drive to a fuel station. Good job someone mentioned that or Id have only been able to run for half a day.

We are out of NGKs but we have a shipment coming in a day or two that should have some in it. We have some octance booster in stock. Ill bring some spare plugs, octance booster, decat silencers, gaskets etc with me :)
If you find any 25L fuel conatiners I might have 2 or 3, I've been meaning to look but keep forgetting.
There is a BP garage just up the road that does Ultimate (or what ever its called) which is what I was running on last time... in fact its what ive used on all my trackdays with bar the last one! :wack:

I now have 2x20litre shiney green new jerry cans ready for the optimax. But still not sure how i'm gonna fit all that stuff into the car...
But still not sure how i'm gonna fit all that stuff into the car...
Remove the rear seats, you can now stack 4 wheels behind the passenger seat, tools/food/clothes in the boot, Jerry cans behind the driver
Where from and how much out of intrest ?
EDIT:
bugger it, found some on Screwfix for £15/each.
Weather looks decent on one site, and showers on another, although forcasting a week isnt exactly reliable :wack:

Superb :notworthy
Ive just ordered three and a spout. Free carriage too :D £14.99 for the Jerry cans, 20ltre, and £3.99 for the spout :)
Bargain
I missed the spout, so will be nicking yours :wack: also ordered 3 for Sat delivery, probably should have ordered 6 to get delivered at yours and saved £6 packing and £4 sat delivery.
Worth it, otherwise I'll end up missing a session to get fuel.
I didnt get charged any packing?
You are welcome to cancel and get them shipped to me instead :)
I'm concerned about fuel - my car just drinks the stuff on track. Probably going to be using at least a tank full an hour on track... I've got 1 jerry can and I'll have to find out where the nearest Opti / SUL station is...
Bit concerned about the 1/2 hour on 1/2 hour off business too. I'll prob end up doing 10 mins flat out, a rest lap and then go flat out again - don't think it'd last 30mins full tilt...
Should be a good day out though :)
Your car ready Brenda? Or are you working out the excuses already ;) :p
I got charged £5.95 packing (maybe becasue you are trade) Free delivery, but tooke the £4 supplement for a Sat delivery.
http://www.sxoc.com/vbb/attachment.php?attachmentid=16393&stc=1
Jez : I tend to use 2 fulll tanks, 1 in the morning, 1 in the afternoon and average 6 or 7 MPG on the track, hence the 60L of fuel I'll be taking, as well as a full tank.
Your car ready Brenda? Or are you working out the excuses already ;) :p
Oooooh, bytch :p Yeah it should be ready. The g/box is nearly re-assembled, Garys just waiting for a couple of bits to land. The cage is in, the brakes are on, the bushes have been done, the 5 stud conversions done, the final gauge is in. We just need the box finishing and fitting and then a mapping session to sort the 720s :)
Kev,
I didnt tell them Im trade, theres no way to tell them. Unless they automatically discount if you give them a business name when putting the details in the order form:

Less than me and you got a spout :wack:
Hummm there is a BT garage not far from the entrance of Silverstone IIRC. I used it at Trax but was full of chavs at the time :E
Hopefully Ill have enough rubber to get out and then back to get fuel.

Cancel the order and then redo it with a ficticious business name, see what happens ;)
I've mailed and asked - out of intrest.
Bet its an extra charge for having to do it on a friday afternoon :p

Whos got things left to do on there cars then appart from Bren... who is getting someone elce to do them :p
dONT YOU START ;) iF I DID THE WORK MYSELF THEN iD BE GETTING HOME AFTER MIDNIGHT, WE ARE WORKING huge HOURS AS IT IS. iD RATHER EARN MY CASH DOING WHAT i DO AND PAY gARY FOR WHAT HE DOES
Oops, caps, sorry.
easy easy :p
Ive still got to try and change that tubby to tubby elbo gasket and hope that I havent disturbed any of the other ones round there. Probably could do with cleaning the K&N. Change the wheels and work out which of the other wheels im gonna take. Im sure im missing sumit again....
Would be nice to beable to afford to get some one elce to do the work sometimes I guess
Would be nice to beable to afford to get some one elce to do the work sometimes I guess
Try working harder. Do a 70+ hour hour week like both Ann and I did last week and you too would be able to afford to pay someone to do the work for you ;) :p
I would do but being a council you WILL do 37 hours a week and thats it and aint gonna get paid if you do more hours that that :indiff:
I think I want another more challengine but better paying job.... but ive been thinking that for a while. At lest I didnt have to strike today YAY :D
Get a second job
I dont get paid for working more hours than I'm supposed to, often here till 5-6pm when i finish at 4-15.
Screwfix:
No packaging for orders over £45,
SM = 3*14.99 = under £45 by 3p
Bren = 3*14.99 + £3.99 = over £45, no £6 packaging in fact £2 less for haivng an extra item :annoyed: should have read the site more clearly stupid monkey :annoyed:

I paid £41 for 2 20l cans trade inc vat, they are sealy branded. I thought i got a bargain too...
Thanks for the rear seat tip Kev, i'll rip them out over the weekend.
I have everything done, i think. Just got to get 2 new tyres tomoz, fit them and that i think is it. Oh and change brake fluid. And maybe oil if i can be arsed.
Don't suppose anyone called up Mel to equire about the suspect noise limit? I meant to but only remebered just before i left work and 5.45 so i only got through to an answer machine. :wack:
OMG they have just extended the Trackday to 8 X 30 mins sessions!..... but no lunch!!!!
Who's gonna be insane enough to try and do all 8!?!
Kev will be, Ill be breaking for lunch thats for sure
Aye, true. Forgot about Kev. He'll be a gibbing wreck by the end of the day!
Theyd have been better off running 20 mins sessions.
Well Im hopeing they give us enough time to cool down unlike trax. I ended up with very odd feeling brakes after that for ages. :wack:
You will have to make sure you have that time yourself, ill be warming up on track for a lap then giving it some for 15 minutes then cooling it down for 10 minutes and bringing her in
Humm true. Not been on a sessioned day before appart from Trax micky mouse day.
Now I ve got to remember not to look at the clock or the speedo but the track!
Kev will be, Ill be breaking for lunch thats for sure :nod:So will I, in one of the 30min gaps.
I'm usually a gibbering wreck with all the trackday adrenaline :wack: dont think this will be any different.
HAPPY HAPPY JOY JOY
4 Hours of Tracktime :D :D :D
As Vez says its more liek 20min session, first lap is a warm-up, 20mins blasting, last lap warm-down should see 25 mins, remember they will clear the track ready for the next session so 30min sessions are more like 25min.
More tracktime, should have had that tow-bar fitted then I could take more tyres :smash:
 I've got that week off, :o can't see any info on spectators :o anybody know how much, or if your allowed ??
:o Also what time you all getting there :o
Thanks.
Spectators should be OK, and Free.
Passengers are £10, if you ask and blag a ride with some of us.
i'll be there @ 8am

 how early,
will have to get up nice and early then
8am  What time am I going to have to set off to get there at 8am with a trailer
Im staying with some friends in Luton so it shouldnt be as stupidly early start thankfully.
I'm picking Petrol up at 6am, as I want to be there for 8am.
First session (group 1) is 9am.
I dont know if we are 1 or 2 as Novice group (well non-expert group).
Kev, you will be be better off hitting the motorway at 5am and arriving earlier, I did this trip every monday for a few months, and past silverstone at around 7:15am every day, any later YOU WONT MAKE 8am!
I on the other hand will be staying with a mate in the Village of silversone, where ever that is :wack:

LOL, what is the M1 like in the other direction at that time in the morning Vez? I.e. Traveling from Luton north to Silverstone. Ive done very little comuting on motorways.

are you coming down m1, if so fancy convoying down as i'll only get lost otherwise :(
You dont want to convoy with us, we will be doing 60mph max
That and the fact that our S13s not done yet so we might have to go down and get it Wednesday night and stop over somewhere near Silverstone.
If we are going from here then you are more than welcome to convoy down but itll be dull for you :)

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, Noooooooooooooooooooooo!!!
If we are going from here then you are more than welcome to convoy down but itll be dull for you :)
well drop me a pm if you are going down that morning, 60mph journey still quicker than my 70ish (cough) journey, specially when you take into account the on average 1hr detour i take for me getting lost when going anywhere more than 30 mile from my house :smash:
Everytime i've gone to your place it takes me about 40 mins and a couple of phone calls after i get of the motorway
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, Noooooooooooooooooooooo!!!
Oh dear. That dosnt sound good....
lol he coming, phone him up, big pillock :smash:
I thought the track day was Thrusday, thats what Ive been gearing up for.
However Garys got the S13 back tohgether, hes just going to take it for a razz to see if everything holds together.
We went down to machine mart and bought a batch of proper straps so theyre sorted. We have the jerry cans so theyre sorted. I just need to put pins int he bonnet and work out how to procide extra security for the rear screen tand theyre done. Then I need to decide on what tyres to run.
Ive got:
1x Ok Yoko AVS Sport
1x Barely legal Yoko 048
1x Barely legal (or illegal) Toyo R888
12+x part worn rally mouled slicks in various compounds
2x sets of wheels
I dont know what to run, Im worried that if I run 2x sets of moulded slicks that they might quickly overheat and limit us to 10-15mins per session :(
I dont know how long the track tyres (048 and R888s) will last given that theyre at the wear limiters. They might last half a day, they might last two sessions.
Not sure what to do :(
Well if worst comes to the worst there will be some people down there selling and fitting dunlops. It was on one of the PDFs they sent out via Email. Probably now cheap but if you are in a hole.....
Dunlop tyres - We'll have a full Dunlop tyre service at this event from Mr Tyre (Motorsport) Ltd, tel. 0121 359 6625
fax. 0121 359 6525, email: sales@dunloprallytyres.plus.com
Yeah but D01Js are £180 each or somthing rediculous :(
For anyone that needs it, there's a Travel Inn (http://www.premiertravelinn.com/pti/findHotel.do) less than a mile from the circuit (postcode NN12 8TN) :)
Incidentally, there's a Shell station that sells Optimax less than 5km away (and another couple less 10km away, in case he's run out). closest one (http://www.multimap.com/clients/browse.cgi?client=shell&lang=en&optimax=on&db=GB&radius=5&pc=NN128TN&addr2=&client=shell&unit=1000&addr3=&maplets=off) You can also pick up BP Ultimate in Towcester, if all else fails. I think I'll just pop along there in the middle, rather than mess around with jerry cans :)
Yeah but D01Js are £180 each or somthing rediculous :(
But he WILL be able to change tyres! :D
Yeah but D01Js are £180 each or somthing rediculous :(
Holy mother of......!
So is the plan now to take lots of tyres and change them when dead?
Same plan here... just they will all already be on wheels. Going to have to see if I can fit 8 wheels in the car and everything elce with out removing seats.
You gonna let me borrow your camera again Bren ;) :p
Im really not going to want to be changing tyres, if theyre anything like bookatrack then they charge silly money, £10+vat per tyre
But itll do as a back up, better to pay for the tyre change than have to sit out a chunk of the day because of bald rubber :)
Im now just desperate for pads. The ones in the car have a few mm of tread left. I was going to order the pads Tuesday to be with us Wed :annoyed: Curse me and my leave it until the last minute borrocks. :annoyed:
Im hoping Vez can pick me some up from Demon tommorrow.

Put my Yokohama AO46's and spare alloys on in preparation for silverstone, seem to grip well, anyone know if they are as good in the wet as the dry...... although I am sure I will find out before tuesday :wack:
Going to take my F1's as backups, but the AO46's have 7mm + of tread so may not need them...

I'll phone you for a chat tomorrow sometime.
Sounds bloody early, although AA reckon over 3 hours, 180 mile for the M40 way. (From Acc)
http://www.sxoc.com/vbb/attachment.php?attachmentid=16440&stc=1
6 miles less for the M1 way on the busy A43 near MK.
I'm going to be up at 4 at this rate :wack: will be worth it as long as its needed.
Briefing is at 8-25 ideally or 8-50 too, but are we in group 1 out at 9am ??
I'm trying to convince myself I can have longer in bed :wack: but it is going to be 2.5 hours from knutsford I think, so 5-45 is probably right.
I dont think Pete fancies a 5 am pickup either

errrm, was looking at bedford. Nearedt place i could think of at the time :wack:
The pollution column hasn't figured in the effect of multiple tanks of de-catted Optimax belting round the track :wack:
lol, SM, I used to go the M40 way every monday whilst working down there, I past the M40 silverstone turn at around 715am every morning, thats getting on the motorway at 5am at Preston and driving over 9-mph all the way.
If there is ANY traffic it would be tight setting off at that time (5am).
Ill see you in session 2 after your briefing then ;)

How about meet at knutsford at 5 or 515 then? I presume that fits with the time you think it will take us to get there Vez
7-15 at Banbury should see 8am at Silverstone, I'll pick Pete up at 5, and go down at a steady 4300rpm.

Yey, the S13s up and running again. Gary was working on it until 6pm yesterday finishing it off. Hes a good lad is Gary  Feck its fast  Id forgotton just how quick it is  We are going to have to go to one of our suppliers on Tuesday to pick up a set of pads. Luckily theyre open, theyre only 30 miles from Silverstone and they have the pads in stock :)
Its getting exciting now  The bonnet pins are fitted so I just have to clad the roll cage in padding (which we have) and secure the rear screen a bit more and we are ready. Oh, and get the rims and tyres sorted, Im still not sure what tyres to run.
Does anyone want any spares bringing down? We will take oil, decat silencers, plugs, pads. Anyone think of anything else that might need replacing on the day?
Simon,
I think we are going down Monday as we dont fancy getting up at 3-4am, driving all the way there at slug pace, running the day and then driving all the back at slug pace and do it all in one day
Sounds like SM etc are going in convoy, how far are you from them?
Simon is the wrong side of the pennines to convoy with me and Ste.
He also doesnt have to be there at 8am, so I guess he will have longer in bed.
Spares-wise I think I am sorted, but if you have some redstuff ceramic front pads with you there is always a small chance I'll need them. I have some 50% worn rears as spares but all my spare fronts are 90% worn and more of a "get me home" pad not "the last 2 sessions pad" I'm actually hoping to be less hard on the brakes and the Ferado Fronts (Cheers Bren ;) ) and Porterfield rears that are in have only done 500miles.
My last set of Porterfeild rears lasted all the last trackday (where I killed a set of Ferado fronts in a day again) and 5000 miles since, and were still only 50% worn when I dropped some new ones in last week :D Seems I have found a rear pad to take the pain I give them, still hunting for a front pad.
Ive managed to get my tubby elbo gasket change finished yesturday in the rain. Only using 4 of the 5 nut/bolts as I think the thread on one of the studds inthe tubby is nackered :( Still the nut on the stud hasnt been of for years and wasnt a problem so hope fully it should be fine.
Atleast its not in massy furgason mode now... though I think I might have a boost leek fromsome where now :/ bugger. and its all loverly and wet today..
I think Ive been round and bought everything I might need as spares... appart from plugs. Im kinda hopeing that I wont eat my plugs
Ive just thought properly about my 'slicks'. Theyve a taller sidewall than the road tyres. The road tyres already rub. Therefore the slicks will rub badly. I cant raise the suspension as we set the alignment yesterday and resetting the ride height will screw it up. Im going to have to grind back all four arch lips today to try to get the clearance I need.
Bugger! :( You tried putting the slicks on to see how bad they are?
I put my OZ Polaros's back on yesturday in the rain. Id forgotten how good it looks on them :smitten:
No, we dont have any rims with slicks on so we will have to get a set built up just to see how they fit

and theres me sitting relaxing on laptop with cups of tea.ring any bells??
hope you have a good day tuesday or was it thursday  :p
LOL, bastid ;) :p
We are just going to duck tape round the edges of the screen, if the wind cant get under the egdes then in theory it wont lift :)
Hope you didnt grind to much off as thats still a structural join in the body of the car.....
My 200 is nearly packed... Ive nevr seen it so full!
I havent gone through the spot welds

You'd be absolutely bolloxed if you thought you would get that lot in an S14 :wack:
Bit keen aren't you :p I'm not packing the car till tomorrow night ;)
hehe, well its 2 extra sets of wheels, 2 tools boxes, jack, pump, 2 tubs of oil + big box with helmut, brakes and assorted stuff in. Who says track cars cant be pratical :wack:
Im staying down in Luton Monday night and am heading of early tomorrow + there is more time for me to remember the important thing Ive probably forgoten :wack:
Bren did you ever find a pair glasses in your Omega? The last time I can rember seeing them is in the back of it at Elvington and I cant find em anywere :(
Bren, have you got any more of that octane booster lying around, just for safety's sake? :)
The rear screen and tailgate have been removed, dried, cleaned and the screens now secured neatly round the edges with duck tape and then bolted up :)
The rally tyres are on the MOs.
The rear arches have been ground back and MOs fitted to check clearance (which looks fine). We are just about to start cleaning round the arch lips ready for painting tommorrow, then it needs waxoiling and we are pretty much done.
Ive just got to finish off cladding the cage and swap the NGK 7s for Denso IQ24s and we are sorted I think :)
We dont have any octane booster left but Vez asked me to save him an extra a bottle for someone, I think it was you :)
Cool, thanks :)
Incidentally, Bren, even if the air can't get under the edges of the rear screen, you might still get some lift sucking it outwards, due to the flow of fast air (as in an aerofoil).
If you get the trajectory right, I want to see you clear the Bridge... :D
Cool, thanks :)

Not a lot I can do about that now  Fingers crossed it wont be sucking too hard ;)
Ive done 130 with it, what will I hit at Slverstone? 150 maybe? It was fine at 130, just starting to whistle so 150 shouldnt be a problem now that the edges that were lifting have been taped down :)
I hope ;)
Plugs are in, nearly done for the night now :)
I managed an indicated 130 at silverstone.. me thinks your car may be capable of a wee bit more :wack:
I've changed my brake fluid and fooked my brakes
Going to be at Halfords tomorrow at 9/10 depending when they open and try and bleed them up better (run out of fluid now).
Gutted as I was supposed to be walking in the Dales :annoyed:
Try the brakes first thing tommorrow, Ive always found that 200 brakes are 100% better after theyve settled over night :)

Topping the fluid up from min to max, another bleed and
Bought a spout for my jerry cans, and it fits :p although it was £5 whereas yours was £7 cheaper
Now just to decide which wheels to take :wack: please try not to forget my wheels ;) stick them in the S13's boot or something. Did you pack me some redstuff ceramic fronts also?
Aye, weather for tomorrow could be dry. Could be wet. Looks as if Silverstone is on the bondry between a rain bank and dryer clouds.
Im realy hope its dry... its scary enough then

I am parying its dry. Last time it started to rain on a trackday i crashed.
Okay, so things i've forgotten:
Spout for jerry cans, Kev, can i borrow yours please mate? (or i could go and buy one... :tw4t,shopsareopenagain:) :)
Er, ball joint sounds like its hanging out. :indiff: Suck it and see. Just don't be driving behind me.
Rear pads? Got some new ones just incase, i reckon they are about half gone. I seem to get through a set every 5k or so.
I have all my mini video cameras set up and raedy to go. Have one mounted on a glass lifter to sit anywhere on the bodywork or glass, one on the steering coloum looking at the speedo/rev counter and one on the pedals to capture my rally style footwork :wack: Yeah right. Prob gonna stick one on the rear shelf or on the head lingin at the back of the car to get a full in car shot.
And i'm borrowing a mates gps to record a real top speed, distance, average speed etc.
Really looking forward to this now, kinda nervous too but just gonna take it at my own pace and try not to get in to many peoples way. :)
Wasnt here a thing at trax last year that they would not alow suction type mounts for cams only bolted on mounts?

No probs, as long as it fits.
Look here (http://www.smithys-place.co.uk/s13_products.htm)
I was doing the same, killed in a single trackday.
Porterfeild pads are last me over twice as long, but are nearly twice the price.
or send Smithy a PM on here. Although I have yet to test the redstuff ceramic fronts and rears.

I checked this with Mel, its needs to be bolted, but the descison (even bolted) falls to the scrutinier (sp?).

Gutted. I spent houts getting it all right. Oh well, i'll just have to show some leg :ghey:

Me too, excited but nervous, I'm going to take my time and let others pass, I think it will be a while yet untill I have the driving skills to push my car anywhere near its limits on a track like silverstone........
Please can everyone be careful of (and courteous to!) the slow white s14 (and not just when Vanessa's driving ;) )
Incidentally Ste, I hit the fuel cut at 13.5 psi last night, so it will be kept lower for Silverstone ;)

Better safe than sorry, for some reason I've never hit fuel cut with the car in any state of tune, do you know why your hitting it at such relatively low boost?
Just finishing the final tuning of my avcr, got it just perfect after an hour, just one more run to go and would you believe it, the AVCR had a bit of a strop and randomly added up to an extra 40% duty cycle all across the rpm range  barsteward seems to do that intermittently when you use any sort of start duty and self learn in 4th gear. So its back to how it was before this morning as I really couldnt be arsed messing about any more, self learn is staying off now ;)
I think someone is trying to test us. Last night the drivers windscreen wiped on the Omega snapped clean off and when we dragged the trailer out this morning there was a small (very small, more of a tiny wet patch) puddle of fuel under the S13.
I cant get the wipers off (was just going to swap them round) so have the RAC on their way to see if they can bodge it.
The S13s in the air with the rear wheels off and the arches masked off. Weve just started spraying them, first coats on.
Not sure where the fuels leaking from. It was ok before the Walbro was fitted so Im thinking maybe the seal at the top is weaping, Ill check it when the cars back on the floor.
Running out of time now though :(
If it rains tommorrow then Im going to lose it, that will be four trackdays in a row when its been p1ssing it down or wet and after all the ball ache of preping the car this time round Ill be far far from impressed if its not dry.
Im already expecting the front tyres to rub and me having to raise the front end and reset the camber, rain would just finish things off
SM,
Can I borrow your filler too, pretty please :) We wont forget your wheels  And we are bringing spare pads :)

Yeah, ditto.
I'm getting really worried about the nasty knock from the osf of my car. It seems to be really really bad the last couple of days. Does anyone know if the techy people at Silverstone will have a ramp? I would be much happier to see that nothing is going to fall out tomorrow... :(
Kev, typical halfrauds didn't have a spout  , or rather "we've moved everything round and they've been lost. We have got some, i just can't find them." :annoyed:

I'm sure there will be someone there who can check it
I bought a spout from halfrauds for my jerry cans the other day, anyone is welcome to use it
Bren :
Sure you'll get it all sorted. Although I very much doubt it will be 100% dry, less hope its just light showers.
We'll all forgot something, and borrow somebody elses', just heard from Vez, he had just set off and forgotten his tape for the headlights.
Dont forget your driving licenses.
Ste - See you at 5-30 @ Knutsford.
Just got 145L of fuel  115L being optimax.
Managed to fit 5 wheels into the car, and still have room for the 60L of fuel in jerry cans and Petes Vid-Stuff.
The RAC sorted the windscreen wiper and the S13s back on its wheels with the paint drying. I cant find the leak but fingers crossed its just the tank seal as thats an easy fix and we have a seal in stock so are taking it with us.
We now just have to go down to my mums and nick the wheels off ther S14 and then try to load the cars up. Feck knows how we will get all the stuff in but we will have a go.
I dont think Ive ever had so much assing about to do for a single track day, better be worth it ;)
Should be a good day :)
Drinft King,
I very seriously doubt that Silverstone will havea ramp you can use but we will have a trolly jack to get the thing in the air if you need to borrow it :)

(Bren, get some sleep ;) )
We are just going down to get the wheels off the S14. Then we have to grab something to eat, get changed, come back to the unit, load up and set off down to Silverstone later this evening.
See you guys all tommorrow bright and early :D
Ive just had a read through the bumph, the noise level is down as 105db. I thought Id read earlier on here that its 107? Well, its not, its 105.
I dont think anyone will have a problem with that though
Just finished getting my car ready.
Fixed a dodgy oil return line that was wearing through  and fitted my bonnet catches so theres no chance of it flipping up and twatting the windscreen.
Changed the rear pads and put new oil in with a new filter.
Any chance I can borrow someones trolley jack? I've lent mine out and its miles away at the moment.
Just got to load up the car, get some fuel and brace myself for a 6am start :(
Fingers crossed for sunshine, really hope its not wet...
See everyone there :)
Can I just double-check that it is the full GP circuit (like at Trax) we're driving, before I teach Vanessa the wrong layout? :)
jez i'm not running tommorow but will put my trolly jack in boot with Kev's wheels as i've got a passenger ride with him

Yep
Abbey Chicane :notworthy
I've just arrived at Luton, just got to make sure that no one nicks all me stuff from the car overnight in the dodgy estate im staying in
Ive got a trolly jack and a 2 big tool boxes worth of tools sould anyone need to use them.... as long as they are still inthe car in the morning :wack:
Im really revouse ive forgotten sumint important but so far the only thing I have is my digi cam so hopefully that'll be the one thing i forget.
So anyone have anyidea how long it going to take to driver north on the M1 from Luton in the morning?
We're gonna have soooo many tools - I've got a small toolkit, a trolley-jack, and two axle stands for good measure :D
We are taking some tools amnd a trolly jack too :)
The Omega and trailer are all ready to go. Strapping the S13 down was a pain int he ass. The straps we bought and tested on the pug and which fitted fine wont fit the 18s of the S13 because theyre too short. Weve had to wrap the straps round the wheels and do a bit of an iffy tie down on the rear. Fingers crossed the car doesnt fall off
You think youve got troubles over night Yak, Ive got £15ks worth of S13 full of exspensive tools sat on a trailer all handily ready for some scrote to make off with!!
We are setting off now, should be at the hotel for 1am. :annoyed:
See you all tommorrow :)
Forecast is getting worse :(
Aye. :(
Theres gonna be a monsoon when I wake up aint there :/
Waaaaaaaaaaaaaah, its too early, but still dry up north.
Yep, but I cant sleep anymore so I might as well get up...
Looking at the rain moving in from the south west its going to start raining at about 12/1 oclock. So get your dry running in in the morning. Looks like its gonna be heavy to so could be an interesting afternoon
Lets see how this Yakforcast turns out :p

if its anything like we've been getting up north over the last few days it will be torrential :( it just so happens to be decent enough weather up here so i suspect it could be the crap we had moving south :(
not raining here at the mo - just about to leave :)
