View Full Version : An Argument from ages ago update!!
Remeber some bloke who claimed his Evo 5 would destroy an Ultima on the road...
Well, my mate took another friend of mine out in the Ultima, and he said and I quote "This cars on a different planet, wow".
I then said lets go for a spin in yours then, as we climed into his Evo 6 Tommy Makkenen Edition (No. 2). After going rather quick down the road:
"This thing feel so slow after the Ultima, and I though this was really really quick"
Shortly after muchos muchos sideways Yaw control, roundabout action he said "and I though mine went round corners quick, It just feels so slow and uncontrolled"
And after exiting a roundabout "What she doing on my side of the road", No actually she was on her side of the road!
Dont get me wrong the Evo's are quick, but they aint that quick! Enough to scare the living crpa out of you though!!

Hmmmm .... I think its crap when companies name there cars like this ... "Tommy Makkenen Edition" ..what a load of pants .. .. its like a Max Power sticker for really easily impressed people .......... how long would it take to hairdrier all those Tommy Stickers off of an otherwise fine fine car. ? .... I am sure the car has all the same internals that Tommys car has ... but even still.
I had a BMX bike once that was named after some freestyle rider, I was well impressed .... I could pretend I was that bloke all day long ... mind you I was only 12 at the time.
I wonder what Nissan would have named the 200sx to make it sound cool ... probably my little S14a would be called
200sx "Noel Coward Edition"
Sorry for that ... rant over ..... I just have a problem with using peoples names to try and make a product sell more .... bit like bike helmets ... you can pay £300 for a helmet OR £500 for an identical one with different graphics called "the Rossi 1997 replica" ... £200 for a sticker and so you can pretend to be Rossi ? ..... nah
Tommy bloody makkinen edition ......

The Volvo 340 "School Teacher" Edition
The Volvo 740 "Mrs Beaton"
The Merc SL500 "Princess Di"
I reckon that all cars should have special editions like that... honest :D

Back to the topic... :)
What engine does the Ultima have? Chevy?

Most have 5.7 or 6.3 Litre Chevys and weigh around 960kgs
Me mate has a 5.7l which produces a conservative estimate of 460 bhp...when the roller cam arives, here comes 520 bhp!

Bet that cost a pretty penny... Hmm, car, house, car, house? The choice is yours :)
Dont we all....if you want to get one, all you have to do is build two (and do a good job, sell them both and you'll have enough money to buy your own).
I presently can afford one.....but unfortunately they dont come with Bathrooms or a lounge (my mate gets ribbed for this all the time).
You could build one 2 a reasonalb e spec for aroun £25K, though my mate got Super Ultra Mega lucky with his engine.
You'd prabably expect to get a 350bhp chevy for this, but dont worry, for the price of a Top end exhaust for a S14a you can get your self a set of pistons (proper hardened racing jobbies) and enough change for an X-box, and one hudred quids worth of games, or someother rather nice other bits for your chevy....

Hmmm, I've been into kitcars for a good few years now and in my experience, you never get your money back on them, never mind make a profit. Now the Ultima is a bit out of the ordinary but having been through the pain of selling 3 kitcars, I'd say that you only get a good price if you are very lucky and find the right buyer. I am prepared to be wrong about the Ultima though, I guess you're in a different marketplace with that...
Build an Ultima for £25K and then sell it for £45k
You WILL make money on them, the factory will buy it off you if you cant find a buyer.....and they will be the first to make you an offer too!
Its one of the few "Component" (not kit as there is no Doner) vehicles that you WILL make money on, as long as you dont hash it together.

I suppose it's possible. 500 hours build time though... If I'm being pessimistic and saying I'll only get 35k for it, that's a 10k profit. That makes 20 quid an hour, not too bad I suppose :)
