Drove the Skoda Octavia vRS 1.8T yesterday...

What a sorted motor that is.... Top chassis, just about adequate power, built like a Merc...

Gonna buy one.

£16,910 OTR (!!!!!!)

When I've sold the house, putting me order in

Scrabble :D

Seriously though, my mate's got an Octavia (though not the RS). It's a seriously well put together piece of kit and he reckons dealer backup is excellent (which, in my experience is not something you can say about Nissan:mad: )

The only time it scrabbled, was wet T-Junction and me giving it some Grief...

Out on the open, you'd swear it was either 4WD, or RWD

The ASR stopped too much malarky, although for big on understeer, you can switch it off.

Well it is a golf GTi in skoda clothing, so waddya expect!

Maybe - but its amazing what a decent suspension setup can do to the handling, grip and feel of a car.

I've had the misfortune to drive a Golf GTi mk5, Audi A3 1.8T and S3 and they were all total toilet. The 1.6se Bora my missus had was a hoot.

The Skoda, however, despite sharing the Golf/Bora floor, and TT engine is a right little stonker.

And you can't argue with all that metal, new, for £17 grand.

Why buy one new though. Skoda have such a sh1te name that they will depreciate even faster than a Nissan.

I can only think you have more money than sense ;)

Actually, the name is very good.
They are coming top in various consumer tests and confidence is high.
The depreciation isn't that bad.

Good choice of car mate. Enjoy.

Look at the secondhand prices on Autotrader, assuming there are any vRS' available...

£13,500 - £14,000 for a 12mth old version??? Show me another new car that will only loose 15% of value in the first twelve months?

You can pick one of these up in France for £16100 OTR before discount.

Jamjar (http://www.jamjar.com) will sell you a new UK sourced car for £14,847.60

To be honest, we're quibbling over three fifths of f-all here aren't we?

I'm all for buying from a dealer new, and having him maintain the car... Still counts well on the history, and aids residuals a bit on performance motors.

This dealership are doing more for me than JamJar ever will....

They're taking it down to Huets and having a POR Ice install, trackstar, My choice of SatNav system, and all singing Clifford - all dones for me before delivery, and I can add it to the cost of the car, and therefore put it on the HP.

Yeah, but I'm a salesman, and the Human face and physical point of reference counts for a lot in my book.

Each to their own...

Just gotta sell the house....

Anyone wanna buy a substantial five bed Semi in West Sussex?

That does surprise me. I am just one of those people who can not justify buying a car new though, I just could not bear the amount I would lose in 3 years. If their reputation continues to improve then you might not loose too much, but I guess most people on here are used to picking up 3 year old S14's for less than 9k.

Are you sure you wouldn'y prefer a 2 year old S14a for £11k :D :D

Nah - I could buy my 14mth old S14a off the company for less than that...

I'd never normally consider buying new, but in this case I'm gonna make an exception, cos its such stonking value, and I've actually owned a car from New - company cars don't count....

Most of the performance cars I've had have been very well thrashed by the time they arrive on my driveway..

It's nice to hear of someone willing to take on all the old "Skoda are crap" type b0llocks. Volkswagen reliability, but cheaper - not bad!
Oh, and a mate of mine got a ride around the 'Ring (git :) )in a 190 bhp Octavia RS a few days ago - he said that with the driver knowing the track pretty well, it was as fast around as a sorted Scooby with a less practised driver...

:)

PS What do you call a Skoda... :D

Nice to see that some people buy a car for what it can do and not what badge it has on the bonnet. VW have transformed Skoda into a company with some excellent cars that put some of the more expensive Vauxhall and Ford efforts to shame. The same can be said of their sister company Seat who boast the gorgeous looking (for a hatch!) Leon and the scrabblytastic Ibiza Cupra sport!!!

Nice choice Dunk!!!:)
