Hi Jez

I've just been speaking to Mr Dave Walker today about your motor and he recalls it very fondly.

He also is sending business your way, when i asked about going to emerald ECU he just advised me to go straight for your chips.

I have a setup which is perhaps not as normal as most and i was hoping for your advice.

I have a rebuilt engine that is ported and flowed, with a K&N and mongoose. Everything else is stock but there is a volvo frount mount in the garage just waiting for some pipes. I have a stock T25 on standard boost.

The engine looks like its got plenty of potential (very reputable builder) but at the moment it runs terirble, with a real problem before 4,500 revs. Since i timed it up myself and have only guessed the position of the cam angle sensor there could be some mupperty on my part. But should i be looking at stage 1 stage 2 or custom mapping on account of the head work??

i realise i probably need to get the uprated fuel pump but i am wary about extra boost until i am convinced i am not destroying my lovely shiny new engine. Any thoughts??

Hi

Good to hear Dave still rates my work :)

Your problem at 4500rpm is almost definetly down to dodgy ignition timing - it's critical that the timing is setup correctly, theses engines are quite sensitive to ign timing changes.

I think the stage 1 chip would still suit your engine very well. Although the head has been ported and polished this won't make a huge difference at the main restriction to more power will be the standard T25.

When you have the fuel pump fitted and a stage 1 chip you should be able to run 15psi safely. The most important thing with turbo engines is to avoid detonation (also known as pinking or knock).

I hope that helps
Cheers :)

erm

i am not sure how to adjust the ignition timing, is it just a case of moving the cam angle sensor around?

would you recomend taking it somewhere? is it a 5 min job or couple of hours buggering around with strobe lights (not that i know how to use one)

thanks
Jason
