I'm just wondering if i should worry about buying a higher mileage S15, as the one i'm looking at has 80K miles... where normally they are a lot lower than that.

Also on a side note wot kinda mileage do u ppl get outta ya S15?

If you're lucky......maybe 250miles on a full tank!!

With a lead foot, a helluva lot less!

Alex

PS: not too sure about higher mileage examples. Mines a '99 and it only had 40k kilometres on it which is about 25k miles! So was quite lucky!

But i'm sure as long as it has been taken care of, then there will be no cause for concern!

Allthough I wouldnt think 80k miles is anything to worry about on an S20 engine, I would hold out for a lower mileage example if you can.

Then again if the price reflects its mileage why not, go for it.

80k is nothing for an SR20 lump, mines done 140k and still going strong, someone else on the board has done 160k still going strong.

Only problem is really - the turbo, how long that lasts is really depending on how the cars been looked after if its had regular oil change and if its been left to idle for a minute before turning the engine off that makes a difference to the turbo. I am still on my original turbo at 140k, but some people had had turbos go at 80k or under so its just down to mostly if the cars been treated right, and also a bit of luck.

Obvously, your better off going for as low milage as possible, 80k doesnt bother me, but even a car thats only done 30k miles could be in for trouble if it hasnt been serviced properly and the turbo hasnt been left to cool.

Thanx for the quick replies...

The one i'm looking at is HERE (http://www.neweraimports.com/stock/carDetails.jsp?carId=59) and claims to be well looked after... i like the mods it's already got on there and just wot i'm looking for...

But as you can understand i dont want to spend that amount of money if it's just asking for trouble. My current car has done 112K but i know it's not a turbo etc and has never broken down or anything so i'm hoping the rumor is true about jap never breaking :D

The mileage is better than i thought thanx :D

That S15 from Newera looks like the one advertised in this months Jap Performance mag. Its nice!

Butuz is right - the tubby is where you should ask some questions if poss. Otherwise it could be expensive to sort out if it does go.

If you do get it, then it may be worth taking it to a turbo specialist and ask em to have a peek at it as to gauge its condition - I use Turbo Technics (Northampton) for any turbo issues on my S15. This may give you an idea of how long you've got with the present tubby. As Butuz states - its down to how looked after the car has been.

Ps I get 300 miles a tank from my Spec R but then again I drive slower than my grandad I'm told!

Well looking at that advert the car has a turbotimer fitted which bodes well for the turbo. It could be a nice bargain! When you go up to see it, take someone with out off the forums so they can listen/look at the engine see if anythings untoward.
