Billing no more  Just seen this,

I hope this email finds you well and you are looking forward to the festive season and 2005! With 2005 comes JAE...bigger and better!

The letters, questionnaires and e-mails we received following JAE 2004 have proved extremely valuable but I do not propose in going into detail again. However, a couple of the key points were:

a.. Numbers for 2004 were up 50% on the previous year with over 15,000 people attending over the whole weekend. This is a fantastic result and we hope everyone had a great time. However, it did leave us with problems in terms of food stalls and in the amount of space available for camping.
b.. Billing Aquadrome did make an effort to keep the toilets in full working order and open shower blocks earlier. Litter was cleared away and 24-hour security was better than previous years. However, they too were caught out with the numbers and are at the very limit of their capabilities.
All the positive and negative feedback has been reviewed and researched for 2005. The Organisation have had numerous meetings with Billing and other venues. It has been decided that Japanese Auto Extravaganza will be moved to The East of England Showground, which is only about 20miles from Billing Aquadrome.

The Organisation's rationale behind this move is:

a.. The capacity of JAE is now overwhelming for Billing Aquadrome
b.. Lack of support in Marshalling and Security
c.. Too much reliance on Billing Aquadrome means insufficient control for JAE

With the above in mind, JAE 2005 will have a new venue, The East of England Showground. This is a secured venue, large enough to hold ALL car clubs/traders and have a designated camping areas. The area that is dedicated to JAE is flat, grassed and with some hard standing areas. There is a speedway track with grandstand. There will be three main gates for entry and exit which have been split into Clubs, Traders and Public. Public parking will be in the general carpark. This reduces any chance that they park on clubs or traders stands. With the space provided by the new showground we can significantly increase the space allocated to all the cars. that means the squeeze of recent years will now be a thing of the past.

More details of the above will be sent to you in the new year in the JAE brochure that will have all the details of the show, booking forms and Terms and Conditions.

It is important that your Club is aware of these changes as soon as possible, so please communicate this information. If you have any questions about the change in venue please contact Claire Williams (Clubs) John Fuggles (Traders)

Billing Aquadrome were in agreement with The Organisation, that JAE's capacity had exceeded Billing capabilities. However, the relationship is strong with Billing and other events are already being arranged there.

The Organisation are developing a brochure which will be sent out in the new year, more updates to follow. Please check the JAE website for further info

This seems like sad news, as the East of England Showground is a bit soulless by comparison. Some good reasons why they feel the need to change though.

Where the hell is the east of england showground

On the side of the A1 by Peterborough. Huge field.

The club is aware of this. :)

Sad, but logical step as Billing can't cope with the numbers. As it says, the new site is only 20 miles away and has better facilities.

Billing Aquadrome was a great venue, it really made the show imo, with the grassy areas, lake, river etc... Really added character and made the event a day out for the whole family. I feel having a great expanse of flat concrete and grass will ruin it, will turn out just like other big shows of the year.

But i suppose if its gotta be done its gotta be done, its a shame though

True, Billing was a lovely place for a show, but its not the venue :) its the people :)

I kinda know that wherever you pile a load of the SXOC there will be a good party :D

Is this just for the JAE or all car shows?

from the text above I'd say just JAE as it's gettin too big

Real shame, did make for a nice weekend in good surroundings :( But as Matt said, the people really make the atmosphere :)

Hi all,

Claire (organiser of JAE) here!!

I know it has come as a shock to some...but Billing wasn't that great..after all they set the prices of entry to the event and there facilities were less than perfect. We have had many issues with them in the past...they were never resolved.

East of England will have food stall, loos/showers, Speedway track/Grandstand...everything for a perfect stay. There are hotels around the show ground so if you'd rather not camp!

JAE would be nothing is it weren't for your continuing support!...thank you

I will keep your event coordinator updated with the latest info on JAE 2005

In the meantime have a great xmas!!

Claire

Hi all,

We have plans for the speedway track, also a show and shine and other activities which will be announced in the new year along with the ticket prices.

Tickets will be cheaper than JAE 04!!

Finding the bridges over Billing's various rivers and streams were character building beyond midnight.

East of England won't be easy either though. No tree patterns to aid navigation towards tent.

I've been at Citroen rallies there, and after midnight all 2CVs look alike.

Maybe wrist mounted GPS will be cheap by July :)

One question - is there any nasty speedhumps at the East of England??? The ones at Billing I'd scrape my arse on walking over em!!:(

Hi Claire.

One request tho, can we keep Kash from Kream away instead of having to put up with his posse donutting all over the place.

Nicely
18-12-2004, 14:52
And ask the Skyline tw@ts who were on the stand next to us to grow up or stay at home. Standstill flaming is just plain :ghey:

Shame, I think it'll loose a bit of the atmosphere that Billing had, still the more the merrier.

Hi matey, no, no speedbumps at EoE. It's totally flat!!

Mmmm I remember him..he parked opposite our stand (GTROC) and when I asked him to join either his club stand or a trade stand...he tried to square up to me. At that point, I asked him to move either nicely or my way...with security! He moved

It wont happen again!

Infact, we have an area for people who want to flame, donuts and 360° in a controlled enviroment and not round your tent!

Any further updates will be sent through Alex.

Thanks again
Claire

It is a shame but as has been said before, its the people not the place that make the event. Im sure it will be great!

If i remember rightly it was billing that banned em not the clubs!I cant see why there wouldn't be similar stuff, I've seen sprint events at EoE before and there's a LOT of space. Would be wicked to get the oval for Drifty use too

Class !

Have done a couple of autotests at East of England, one in a 2cyl Visa belonging to a mate of mine (named BX 16v on this forum). I went faster than he did in his own car. tee hee.

But apparently that was because I have no mechanical sympathy, rather than being a better driver :p

This was at a Citroen club meet though, not JAE, because that would have been odd.

EDIT - Oh, and hope everyone had Merry Christmas. Mine hasn't finished yet, just sneaked into a room to "borrow" a computer for a few minutes :D

I'm looking forward to the move!

More space, no speed bumps, and totally dedicated to the show.

I always found it a little odd being at a car show at Billing, in amongst people who were there on holiday...
