View Full Version : New Apex S14 exhaust fitted - feedback
We've just had one of our new S14 systems and decat silencer fitted to a customers S14a. WOW! It took the machanic ten mins to fit once the old system had been removed. The tailpipe is close to the bottom edge of the rear bumper but not touching so actually fits better than my S14s GT Spec which does slightly touch, as do, I believe, the Nur Specs (?).
I was expecting it to be raucus and loud but feck me, the car was fired up and was deep and quiet with a low menacing burble. When its reved up it just sounds ace :smitten: The car still has the original front pipe with integrated cat so when thats gone the volume will be upped but it will still be perfectly livable with, nothing like the single box systems.
Im a happy bunny and the customer left with a big grin on his face :D
Excuse the dirt, he drove a long way to get the system :)

That looks quality
By the way the Nur Spec doesnt quite touch the bumper, but then thats because its burnt its own little recess into the bumper :wack:
Bren how much are you going to charge and when will they be ready?
Theyre going to be £299. Im still going through the finer points to get them as perfect as possible. Ive just sent the manufacturers a load of pictures with requests to make the first silencer larger and to see if they can drop the rear box 5mm to givbe that little bit of additional clearance.
I want to get them as good as I can get them :)
Whose filthy car is that... ha ha :D
Well guys I seriously recommend this system  extremely well made, sounds  and very light!!
I drove 250 miles home with the exhaust and didn't hear any knocking  The cabin noise has increased as expected but I'm not suffering from a headache.
As for the performance of the car.... what an improvement
BUY BUY BUY
That looks superb. I like the slash cut tail pipe.
I hope that shiney bolt on the floor was nothing important :D
Get them for sale............ Chop Chop
This money is burning a hole in my pocket ;) :D

looks nice! I dont quite understand how it has a 'decat silencer' - is that just the silencer in the middle of the pipework?

I think he fitted a third silencer that replaced the cat, might be wrong but thats what i thought he was meaning?

so for a full system you need: catback exhaust pictured above, decat (or silencer decat), and a frontpipe?
Can you do this setup with the s13 parts? I'm asking as I would really like a quieter system - with the decat silencer...
Cloudy wanted a decat but we only had the decat silencer in stock so we stuck that on.
On an S13 youd get the above cat back and would then need a front pipe. We are sorting the front pipes now.
Im confused as to what to do with the exhausts. For some reason our S13 is massively loud regardless of what exhaust we fit. Its hugely loud with our system but then its equally hugely loud with an Apexi GT Spec! Our S14 with a GT Spec is far quieter and Cloudys car with our system is also hugely more sudued. I know he also had the decat silencer and front pipe but even so his car was pretty quiet.
Ive been speaking to the manufacturers about getting the first silencer made larger but now Im not sure if we should. We could end up going too quiet.
I think Ill leave the systems as they are other than to lower the S14 back box 5mm and then do the silencer decats for the S14 to shut the exhaust up more if its too loud and will integrate a silencer into our new S13 3" front pipes to sit where the cat originally lived toquieten them down.
The only thing is that ALL the S13 front pipes will have this silencer, do you guys think this will be a problem?

Bren I reckon it would be worth getting the bigger silencers, especially as more and more people seem to be getting into trackdays where noise regs can be a problem.

well, i for one would like the silencer built into the downpipe. I mean as long as it doesnt sap any real power i think most people would like the exhaust quieter, seen as most people use thier cars as daily drivers, a loud exhaust does get a bit much on motorways etc... its why i have stuck with my scorpion as its not too loud!
Yeah, but what if they have a different system that they dont want to make quieter?

you mean they buy a frontpipe and a different catback system?
hmm... you sure you couldnt have it as a similar arrangement as the s14's ie: you buy either a decat or silencer? Other than that i guess you could have 2 type of front pipe available - one with silencer and one without, but i'm guessing they wouldnt be as cheap?
Personally I don't care how loud it is - I can wear earplugs if REALLY necessary
It's all about the performance IMO, annoying the neighbours is just an added bonus
Aye, they have, say, an N1 Evolution and then one of our frontpipes. As you say seperate decats put the price up :(

Any idea when these will be ready?
What else is needed for a turbo back system? (De-cat pipe & anything else?)
Cheers
James
Theyre going to be a month or so. Youll also need front pipe and decat. Decats are £65, front pipes £95.
Hi Bren, can you confirm that the silencer decats will be £65??
cheers
James
Theyll be more than that
Cant wait for these to land :D
Bren - i have a 3" SS decat downpipe thing on there now. Will the cat back exhaust as above bolt directly on? Ive no idea what make the decat is, though it may have been bought from you.
Cheers
Butuz
Yep, it should bolts straight on :)
Wicked :D
Bring on the stainlesssteel bren meister! :)

Bren,
Sorry to jump in but what timeframe is on the silencer decats just now? Thought I'd read on another thread that they'd be around £79. Can you advise?
Thanks,
Nige.
Theyre going to be a month yet. Theyre £79.

cool...not long to go ... :D
Got my S14 silencer decat the other day, cheers bren :)
It looks a top piece of kit. Internal diameter in excess of 2.6", and the quality of the welding is very good... Nearly as good as mine in fact! ;)
It even comes with a groovy picture on the top
Thats not our new decat silencer though :( Our new ones dont have a big a silencer but theyre bigger bore, shineir and cheaper :) But then we dont have any at the moment.

No big silencer? Oh dear... ;) :wack:
The bore of the current decat silencer is fine for me, as it's still bigger than my current downpipe

how loud would this exhaust be compared with a Mongoose on a standard car without a decat silencer and both cats in place? It looks great and if the volume levels are similar or quieter than a Mongoose, I'll put in for one when they arrive, as my first real mod :wack:

hi bren could we get a choice on either a slash cut or straight cut back box??i want the system but im not too keen on the slash cut.
thax ben
Our system is going to be pretty quiet with both cats in situ. The back boxes only come with slash cut Im afraid.

well i ordered the exhaust today off you anyway, so ill take it to a place to get it cut so its a straight cut. i forgot to ask how much the postage was, when its comming in and can i add a set of colder plugs with the order as well.
thax ben
The new systems should be ready for collection on the 10th (Monday) so we would expect the shipment to land with us around the 17th or 18th :)
Good stuff - can you confirm the price on just the catback xaust for me? :)
Butuz
Bren - can you put a new S14 cat back jobby aside for me please - my single box is getting on my t!ts, even with the Scorpion cat silencer
Stealth is the way to go
Cheers mate - I will give you a bell after the 17th to sort out a transfer for payment.
Daniel.
We have loads coming, I dont think we will run out in a hurry :)
Id be very very intersted in your thoughts on the two systems

cool...could you put my name down for one of the first batches
Yep ill deffo be getting a cat back too as soon as theyre ready.
One thing - is there a bung avaiable for the twin box system just incase i need to quieten it down a bit for school? :)
Cheers
Butuz
Bren, this zorst looks great, but when you say it is quiet, do you mean HKS Silent type quiet, or is it much louder than this.
Am wanting a quiet exhaust, but with both cats removed.
We have sorted some sexy new bungs so yeah, you cam make them quieter. We also have some new decat silencers on their way. :)
The systems are quiet, if you give me some time then Ill get you an exact noise reading with my new db meter :D
bren, have you got any bungs for the Apexi GT Spec I'm getting?

As a comparison, my APEX single (with Scorpion decat silencer) measured 102.9 db at 4000 rpm (at 1 metre 45 degrees) with a peak of 119db when 'blipped'
Sounds a hell of a lot more than that under load when moving :D

are these in stock yet bren?
I'm looking at getting a de-cat pipe and cat back exhaust within the next week or so! or maybe a bit longer if their not in.. lol I really want one of these!
Theyre due any day now :)

hehe... :D well put me down for one!
that and a de-cat pipe pretty please. i'll PM you when i have funds available. should be early next week.
We are still working on the S13 ones as theyre too loud.
Im going to get 3" front pipes made up with integral silencer to help with the noise levels :)
Apex systems now come with a sexy free bung :)
Bren, what internal bore size are these decat silencers?
I wanna go bigger from my SE twin decat jobby which is 60mm thru-out and replaces both the downpipe a main cat, but without increasing the noise level.
Have you got a 3" solution for the S14a yet.
So you actually do a 3" downpipe decat without silencer and a 3" main decat with silencer for the S14a?
I know the decat silencer is £100. How much for the 3" downpipe.
Ive a customer who fitted a twin box today. hes just come back in his car with it fitted. With no cats (s14a) it exhaust is 82db at tickover and 99 at 4k rpm :)
And thats with a straight through decat and no bung. Stick in a bung and the level will drop a lot.
I dont know how accurate our db meter is so need to get levels on other exahsust to comapre.
However the owner says that the system is quieter than one of our old twin box systems and it sounds very reseanable to me.
Far far far quieter than our S13.
Basically, RESULT :D

You posting the standard car figures for referance too ??
78 and 85 IIRC.
Mine was 83/95
