I heard a rumour that there are "loads" of Nova SRi's around with 150 Hp Astra GTE 16v engines in them!!!

Given their weight advantage, they'd beat a standard S13 wouldn't they?

Perhaps until they tried to stop or do anything other than straight.

You didnt know this? I'd like you to meet my enemy! :) Its taken me a fair bit of money to get my car to beat them and im not even sure if it does... Ive raced a 150hp Turbo 1.6, and a 2.0 litre NA, (but i dont know how much power it had) and i beat them both, but there is 2 other guys who had 190hp from there 2.0litre conversions... And they have just swapped in a 2.0 litre turbo engine, in both of there cars! Aieeeeee! :)

They wiegh nothing (exactly the same as my Starlet, 850kgs), and before they had the turbo engines in, they could live with Impreza's just like my Starlet does now (ive raced UK specs and early WRX specs)... I dont know quite how common the conversion is, but it is quite costly to do, so i cant see that many out there however...

Jezz_S13 is right however, the 2.0litre ones cant corner for toffee, too nose heavy, they understeer terribly.

I. Hate. Nova's.

Bugger.

Anyway it came down to insurance. So the Sunny Saloon GTiR won.

For the money you paid for the sunny you could have got an F reg Corolla GTi, like my lodger just has.

120bhp from a 1.6 NA engine, impressive.:)

Ive actually been in a 2.0 coverted nova it had twin 48's on it i dont mind saying it was rather scary but as jezz said they suffer from xtra weight, I was firmly attached to the panic handle when corners were looming.

I think my hatred stems back a few years when I was sitting on the ringroad in Huntingdon in me motah (not 200sx) when a grey nova GTE pulled up alongside me it all looked standard and I was confident of the win lights changed I decked it Nova flew off the line with wheels spinning and funny chuff noises then I saw the Courteney turbo sticker on the back. I was well w**nked off about it:mad:

Got a couple of Firends who are in to doing this, one has your run of the mill 3 door hatch - still awaiting a few bit before the engine can be put in, and the other mate has a Nova saloon which has been converted in to a pick up style car / van.

As Jezz said though, they are very nose heavy, and the friend with the pick up is having to fill the rear chassis legs with melted Lead to weigh the back end down to help keep oversteer down

Apparently they are good for about 150mph where they hit the limiter in 5th

Seems like its rather unfair for us to criticise these cars in the "road kills" section... whilst I personally don't like anything about the Vauxhall Nova is seems that they can easily be modified to SERIOUS power!

Hmm will look carefully before attempting to race one from now on!

Thats another thing... There is usually no visual clues either!

One night, i was on the Dual Carriage way in my old Series 1 RS when i came upon a Nova GTE... Easy meat i thought, as i powerd past in 5th at about 5,000rpm's. What happend next has scared me for life! :) The Nova changed DOWN into 4th (at about 115mph atleast) and completely blitz'd my sorry RS Turbo... I couldnt of changed down in the RS if id wanted to...

Argh! I. Hate. Nova's. :D (For this reason, and cus the slow ones are all horribly modified)

I went out in a Nova with a chipped Calibra turbo engine and it was a complete hott!! :D Wheel spin in most of the gears, massively overpowered, crap handling tin box. Great fun. I nearly bought it for £2500 :) Thinking back I should have done! :D
