In case anyone is interested I will post my progress here, feel free to add any thoughts/ opinions!
I got a turbo from a Saab 2.3,Modified the golf exhaust manifold to accept the turbo.Using Saab pipework connected the K-Jetronic airbox/mechanical injection to the inlet of the turbo.
time taken: 4hours
amount spent: £60
i`m going to put the budget up to £150 to allow for possible extra expendatures:rolleyes:
Obviously i need to lower the compression ratio from the factory 10:1 down to between 7.5:1 and 8:1 if i want to run a decent amount of boost,I have 2 options,
make a thicker metal head gasket or remove material from the combustion chamber and the piston crown(i don`t want to take too much from the piston crown as this will weaken the piston)
for oiling the turbo i was thinking of taking the oil from the oil pressure switch and returning it to the sump.
That`s all for now!!

Hmm.....
a) will that be pre or post filter?
b) will it effect the oil pressure to the rest of the engine?
c) I'm sure theres a golf BB somewhere................
:D

Been driving around in a W Reg Golf GTI 20V Turbo.

Sluggish to say the least. Recaro seats that leave you crippled after a 300 mile trip.

Impressed? Not at all.:(

The new golfs run fcuk all boost, cos they have a CR of around 10:1 i think.I intend to lower the CR so i can run higher boost:D :D With the standard 1.8 lump my beach buggy ran 16.4sec @ 80mph at santa pod last year with a knackered clutch.

Will it blow up? I should think so!!The engine has already done 130,000miles.it`s more of a question of how long hence the £150 budget,I`ve got a V8 lined up for it next year:D It`s going to have to have twin turbo`s though:eek:  so this i kind of a test run on turbocharging an NA lump;)

risky business

Ferrari pioneered this in the early eighties with their F1 racers. The fuel feed into the turbine erradicated turbo lag and produced those lovely flames between gear changes. I wondered how long it would take for someone to do this to a road car.

Respect! :D :D
