I've read lots of reports on the effectiveness of these devices.

Some people say waste of money, some say they're worth their weight in gold.

If they do work I'd be seriously tempted to buy one, might stop me getting a 2nd speeding conviction!!!

Anybody got one or have any views on them? :)

I think I would rather go with a Laser Jammer than detector, along with a GPS based in-car system. Plod are more likely to be using laser than radar at the side of the road, and the GPS will take care of the Gatso (radar) and Truvelo (sneaky strips)

In fact I have just bought a cheap Palm with the intention of buying the Trafcam software at some point ( www.trafcam.com )

Cheers, Phil

I've got a Snooper 815, which is pretty good at detecting fixed cameras and excellent at warning you about mobile lasers (you know, Plod's got nothing better to do on a nice sunny afternoon so stands behind some bushes or on a motorway bridge    ) You do get a few false alarms but it's worth it.

Won't detect the new 'smart' cameras that measure your speed over 6 miles or so :(

Wouldn't be without it now (:D:D:D:D) especially as I consider the motorist to be at war with the bacon

Cheers for that, I've had a look on the Snooper Website and they do various models.

Have there been any tests/comparisons carried out?

From tests I've read in the past, the makes to go for are either Snooper or Bell. Bell I believe offering slightly better performance but at a price. I went for the top of the range (at the time) Snooper cos it seemed daft to have one and not be able to detect everything.

It's worth noting that my friends who have detectors have all found the same as me which is that you tend to drive more slowly with one fitted.

In fact I think there was a report done not too long ago which proved that having a detector in your car made you more aware of speed and less likely to break the speed limit in built up areas.

Thanks for the suggestions.

It seems that Bel do some of the best kit, ideally I'd go for their Laser Diffuser and Detector Package.

But, at £600 I can think of other things I'd prefer to spend the money like making the car go faster!!! :D (That really doesn't make much sense)

I could always slow down and stop driving like a loon!!!
