Hi, I had a fantastic track day at Oulton Park yesterday :) . Car had loads of power and was easy to drive. The edge was taken off it all in the last hour of the day when my 115,000 mile engine gave up the ghost :smash: :whip:

It will run, but sounds very nasty. I think it may have had a det related death, but until we get it home we can't say any more than that.

I'm very interested in your fast road engine that you have been advertising in your sig as a drive in drive out £3200. Like I say, until its demise I was more than happy with the power available, but the metal gasket and forged pistons would I presume make the replacement a bit tougher?

Anyway, if the engine has to come out then I may as well look at options regarding a clutch uprate. My friend has a very well equiped workshop (car lift, engine hoists etc) and he was driving the car when it choked, so he has offered to help. Can you give me a price for:

An exchange engine (unfitted)
An engine (fitted)
Engine and clutch (fitted)

Do you have a fast road engine on the shelf? If so, when would you be able to book the car in if you do the work? I will be able to get the car brought down to you if you can book it in.

Mongoose exhaust
Induction Kit
Boost valve (Brens)
IK24s

I know that it must have a walbro pump before we use it again (and that this is probably why it went pop yesterday). What else should I consider to make it a more bulletproof track day but still OK as a daily driver. Like I say, I'm not looking for more power, but I guess a FMIC would make it more reliable.

Thanks for your help

Simon

Hi, Gary

Spoke to Christian on the phone the other day. He advised me to go with the second had replacement that I have been offered for now (we agreed that finding a spare £3200 to sort out my blown engine could take a little time). I have a couple of mates who are able to help me do the swap. It sounds as if just dropping the car and leaving it with you to rebuild the engine would be a bit of a pain anyway because of having to store the car.

Anyway, any chance of getting a break down of prices for you guys doing some of the work? I see that Norris do a recon head for £500, and I know many of the parts are available from Bren. How much would it be for a rebore of the stripped block?

Let me know what you can do in terms of parts and work.

I'm hopeful that the second hand engine I have will get the car running again and buy me some time for the rebuild.

The spec I am looking at is:-

Std Recon Head
Metal head gasket
Rebore block
Oversize pistons
New Bearings (beefed up?)
New / Recon Oil pump
New Chain and tensioners

Anything else you think I should include.

Thanks for your advice
