View Full Version : Yay its official i have the first S14a chip
and the lord looked down upon the 200 with the chip and said it was good!!!!!!
Phil put his foot down and went............mmmmmmm nice,
and as Phil put his foot down Jez went ..............very quiet....
But on a serious note , the chip really has made a massive difference.
Good to hear!!!
These have been a long time coming, and im sure they'll be a hit here....
Does the car drive much different? Hows Idle? Power delivery?
I am considering getting one soon....
Drives competely different wheel spins all over the place,
tick over is ok and stable,
the power delivery is crisp and instant,
megga flamage
it really supprised me how much of difference it has made.
Wahoo cant wait for when they go on sale, we've got very similsr spec Philk except for my FMIC so should be good.

You subjected Jez to one of your 'spirited' drives?!
The poor bugger probably has leg cramps from the invisible brake and is bound to need conselling too :wack: :smash:

I had a round trip from Lemington to Santa pod and back!
I'm still not sure I'm over it yet :wack:

As Phil says - the car is much "crisper" and pulls harder to the red line :)
The idle will be exactly the same as before, as I've not touched the fuelling or ignition timing in this area :)
Ohhhh thats lurvly news
Best start getting some stock on the shelves, is this the final revision for the chip now are you happy with it or you still going to be tinkering
Is this the final revision for the chip now are you happy with it or you still going to be tinkering
Phils going to use the car for a week or so to find out if theres any probs, then I'm going to fine tuning it at Thor (probably) and then it'll be ready :)
That lot will probably take about 2-3 weeks.
Will these work on an Auto?

congrats jez
very happy motoring philk ;)

Cheers :)
Will these work on an Auto?
There will be auto chips available - going to need a volunteer at some point for a spot of testing - email me if you're interested :)
Get your christmas order's in now guys!! lol
What is your first chip Jez? Stage 1?? Or are you going to do the full range straight off??
What is your first chip Jez? Stage 1?? Or are you going to do the full range straight off??
Going to do the stage 1 first. Then when I find a volunteer whos got the stage 2 mods I'll do that one and so on. :)
Day2 .....Well just been out for a very spiruted drive lol............
the best way i can describe the performance is, when you first did the boost upgrade from 10psi to 14/15 psi and the car felt alot more responsive , well the chip feels the same again. alot more responsive.
wheel spins in first / second.... picks up very quickly....first and second gear is now too short lol.
The power delivery is very smooth and linear, no surges and pulls hard to 7k.
I went out llast night with Jacko and Wallers and with all 3 of us in the car , it was still accelerating at 150LPH.
I am a very happy bunny!!!!!!

seriously tho
:notworthy
Cheers guys :)
My laptop has just died!!! Not lost any data but the battery or the internal charger thingy is knackered cos as soon as I take the power lead out it dies :( :(

LOL - looks like a work laptop? :D Can't you blag a car charger on your cost centre? P'raps put it down as being for 'testing purposes'?
Seriously good news on the chips though. Probably good timing all round - xmas pressie ideas for us, and xmas spending money for you!
LOL - looks like a work laptop?
It might be ;)
Nice one m8, a great achievement :notworthy
Am I right in thinking that even the japs haven't done this yet!!!!
Some questions if I may.
1. I take it Stage 1 mods are as PhilK's car:
15psi boost
Full decat + cat back exhaust
Colder plugs
Uprated air filter
Uprated fuel pump
I'm running similar mods but with the addition of a Hybrid FMIC. Would the stage 1 chip be ok with a FMIC?
2. Does the stage 1 chip sort fuel cut issues?
3. Were the injectors pretty much maxed out?
Cheers, and well done again.

1. Not sure about FMIC at the moment - I could test on your car if you like ;) :)
2. Yes. Fuel cut is removed
3. Not sure - I'm going to monitor the pulse widths when I get phils car on the rollers
Cool
From reading your other thread it would seem that I only need a set of 555 injectors to be your Stage 2 mule, and I'm nice and close
if you want to test stage 1 with a fmic let me know, i am only down the road from phil near coventry and run the same spec just with a fmic and 1.2 bar boost
Looks like there may be a market for Stage 1 plus FMIC Jez :D

Yup, me to
Jez have you found any Cybermen in your ancestry at all?? :D

Is that a volunteer offer? I could test the stage 1 on a car with FMIC if thats OK, and then do the 555cc injectors if you're up for it :)

Cheers for the offer - might take you up on it if Grazor can't help :)

Ho ho - I'm from the Orange Ear tribe...
jez, you can compare mine and phils on the dino if needed, let me know dont live far away :)
yeah i have stage 1 and FMIC to.... i think a lots of us have! id buy a chip if the testing is a success
Hell yeah I'm up for it
Will be interesting to see how much difference the FMIC actually makes.
Also up for the stage 2 developement too, just let me know when I need to get the injectors by and off we go (might need a hand fitting em tho ;) )
Also meant to ask before, does the std ecu control the boost too? and can you up the boost from your chips? I've got an AVC-R but I was just interested.
And does this affect NATS as I'm still using the standard Alarm and Imobilizer setup?
I would also be interested in Stage 2 chips but I am looking for "safety" better than extrem performance. I meant I might sacrificate some bhp in order to improve engine safety at stage 2 level which is enough in performance gains by itself thoght. So a pretty fuel curve, det less and propely timing would be appreciated! ;)
Good luck with your work!

Yeah - I'd like to test to see if the stage 1 chip copes OK.

No problemo :)

There is boost control within the ECU, but I dont think it's possible to increase the boost enough - it's something I'll probably have a look at properly later on.
And does this affect NATS as I'm still using the standard Alarm and Imobilizer setup?
The alarm and immobiliser will be un affected and will carry on as usual :)

That's not a det listener thing, that's protection for Jez's ears for when Phil floors it and starts laughing like a complete ****ing psychopath :D

I noticed this laughing too. Its not the normal har har or ho ho its more like a "Im going to take over the world" manic bellowing...
Everyone comments on my laugh.....................................i am going to take over the world one day by the way
Right then mr Jez........... Chip is superb........
Car pulls hard and smooth.
Fuel economy seems a little better too.
Car just feels nice to drive.
Im very happy
So whats next Dyno?
So whats next Dyno?
Yup :)
When are you free? This weekend?
yes this weekend would be good
Cool - I'll phone Thor tomorrow. Fingers crossed they're free...
Cool and is my original ECU ready :)
Cool and is my original ECU ready :)
It will be - I'll bring a standard ECU too, just so we can see the difference :)
Just phoned Thor - they've got a dyno shootout thing this Saturday, and booked up on the 4th :(
Are you free in the week at all? I've got stuff on every weekend until 8th Jan. Unless we try and find a different RR/Dyno.
Hi, 2 quick questions:
What about Stage 2 chip and MOT? Any problem with emissions?
What about MPG? Is that big difference between not chiped and chip installed?
Thx.
The stage 1 chip will pass the MOT no probs and should be a little better on fuel when cruising.
I'm not sure about the stage 2 yet, but I can't see there being any problems :)
Got it, good luck and thx.

There will be a S14a with Stage 1 chip at Prosport
Jez fitted the S14a Stage 1 chip for me last night, very impressed :notworthy
Very tempted to see if NinjaSX can squeeze me in for a power run sometime tomorrow (Mark, any chance???)
If you go Grazor, give me a ring - I'm going over with my car and possibly Phils, if he ever gets in touch with me...

WOW this is great news Jez
Well done on finally sorting it :)
Dave
Well done on finally sorting it :)

Hello, could you tell me if this is a S14a ECU? A friend of mine is selling it and I think it would be usefull to "test-plug" Jez's chip :P
He says this is a 1997 S14a ECU. Mine is 1999 S14a
a18-f42
UQ
23710 82F05
A18-F42 G64 6612
Thx!
Yes that is an S14a ECU. If you chip an S14a ECU it will only work in the car the ECU came from, unless you have access to a Consult device that can re-initialise the NATS.
Ah, I didn't realised that point. I have access to consult device with datascan, could this software re-initialise the NATS? Would ECU be usefull after this reinitialisation without any other work?
Thanks for your answers.
The datascan software doesn't have the immobiliser initialisation code in it. You need a real Nissan Consult with NATS card - I can emulate the consult command if you have a consult interface, but I dont want to release it to the public domain because it could be used to steal S14as.
I understand Jez. It is not problem anyway. If I would buy this ECU and decided to plug the chip in it I would send it to you better than kill it by myself , if possible. It depends of price my friend is going to offer.
Thx!
No probs. You would still have to get the ECU initialised to your IMMU and key transponders though.

So would the chip make a notable difference to my S14a?
It now has a Stealth Boost Gauge mounted on door at bottom of a-pillar, NGK Iridiums (7's not 6's to run a bit cooler), and the FBU - soon to be swapped for Bren. And a soon to be purchase induction kit (advice welcome).
I would like a new zorst but due to lack of readies and the decent nick the old zorst is in, means I'll wait a while.
Or should I wait till the FMIC and Zorst are added?
Probably best to wait until the exhaust and free flow air filter is fitted - the FMIC is optional with my chip. You'll get more power with than without, obviously. You will require an uprated fuel pump too.
ShawJohn

I'll source the walbro fuel pump and induction kit next then, zorst can wait, chip and zorst will come when I get my compo money off GF's insurance co. - she drove me straight through someones kitchen wall 4yrs ago and busted my chest up :D Cant wait!
Cheers Jez,
John
