Those of you with a keen eye will notice I have two sets of wheels, chrome ones have drift tyres and gold ones have normal tyres
anyone know where to get 1/8 scale drift wheels from ?
I have a nitro powered scooby but the tyres just grip. it is ok for donuts but it just seems to like going really fast...
needs harder compound tyres, I tried using duck tape but it just shreds that in a few seconds...

Thats the one! Need to sell it :( to fund r/c drift car.
I used to race it (quite successfully) but our club got a new venue and I can't get in there without ripping off my hiper muffler or front splitter, so now I've got nowhere to use it
i got one of those yohoma HKS silvias coming for xmas :D i cant wait . YAY
If anyone wants one of the Yoko Silvias and cant find one then you can buy mine. Ann started building up but didnt get very far with it
Im now getting a bigger truck so will let the drift car go.
Its all boxed, obviously never used :)
Tried getting one of the little S15's but not having much luck. :(
See my post above. Im getting one of these instead, ive just (as in five mins ago) found out that theyre available now, after 8 months of waiting! :D

Nice Vid, but i thought you already had a suitably loony monster truck?
Yeah but the one above has a 26cc two stroke petrol engine ;) :notworthy
The truck I have is proving a pain in the ass. Im having to buy more and more upgraded parts for it to get it to take the power of the engine. Its also taking forever to run in. Im very rapidly losing patience and interest.
The truck above will just start and run, no fuss, no probs, no issues
And how much is one of the uber bad boys above then? (Would do a search myself but figure you already have :D)
Urm *cough* ...lots ;)
Ive already got an FG marder so Im going to see if I can just get the monster truck rims and tyres for it :)

FG Marder buggy (8 months old), K&N cone air filter, all radio gear, different chargers, some spares, loads of spare nuts, bolts etc. The bodyshell has some battlescars (raced it twice with good results) but its just had a new roll-cage and been very well looked after. Even has a petrol can and tub of 2-stroke oil!
If anyone's interested let me know and I'll try to get some pics sorted. I'd be looking for about £350 (cost £600 :( )

That's fooking cool.
Trackstar you are my Hiro (whoops, I mean hero)
The Marders here. Its looks ace :notworthy
Im just charging up the Marders battery now. How do you get it to fast charge instead of trickle?
trackstar
05-11-2004, 13:27
I don't think the mains charger does fast charge, but the 12v car battery one does. Could be worth discharging the transmitter nicads at some point, they're only about 2 months old so should last ages if you discharge them every now and then.
Its ok, youd unplugged the Marders battery which is why I thought it was dead :wack:
Ive just had it running round the car park. I juts wish it was Sunday so I could go and play! :D
trackstar
05-11-2004, 13:52
Be worth putting it on trickle charge for a bit anyway, its been sitting doing nothing for about a month :(
Apparantly the beetle/pajero slicks will fit it nicely for car park shenanagans

trackstar,
Im just doing a bit of work to your old Marder. It really is a credit to you. God knows how youve kept it so straight. Its had some use but just as you said its been very well looked after.
Excellent work matey, its a pleasure to find someone else who looks after these things properly. You actually use locktight!! And I see plenty of grease on the wheel bearing. You are about as obsessive as I am
If you get another Marder then turn the big drive sprocket round 180 degrees and refit it. That way the teeth dont hit the rear upper suspension arm and you dont loose drive teeth
The starter was a bit sticky but Ive sorted that, Ill fit a new drive sprocket (on backwards) and a new small metal gear tommorrow and then Ann and me are going marder racing!!
Woohoo!!! :D :D :D
It was a pleasure doing business with you, this is the first used rc model Ive ever bought that exceeded my expectations :notworthy
From where?

trackstar
07-11-2004, 20:05
Bren,
Glad you like it. After the last race I completely stripped, cleaned and rebuilt it, and may have neglected to lube the starter mechanism  I bought it fully built so I didn't know that gear was backwards, sorry!
Have the S15 built, :notworthy works brilliant on the kitchen floor but also marks it quite badly, so I'm dodging the parents till they forget about it :D
Oh yeah, Gazmo, you're nothing

Its not on backwards, its on the right way round. If you fit it backwards then it protects the teeth. But you also need a steel small gear too :)

Arrrrrrrhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, excellent, I used to have the link to their site but lost it and couldnt find it again. Thanks  :D
Edited to say:
They used to be cheaper, theres not any real savings to be made now once youve added carriage :(
check out the cmldistribution.co.uk site. they dont supply the public, but do sell to your local hobby/model shop. Lots of trick tyres wheels and bodies as well as motors and engines too.

Anyone know where I can get a 14a shell to fit my Yokomo drifter? The S13 shell is looking a bit worse for wear now :( Had a wire come off the motor so no brake, slight angle into a kerb, sent her flying, rolled over a few times and took a massive chunk out of one of my wheels

this mite sound dum but anyway,
seen in this post someone said about a D1 comp at jae with the rc cars well , i thort of a way it could be done,
if someone was to get a van and some wooden bords from b&q or sumin like that and then u could set up a minie d1 track . wooden bords like you put done in a loft or sumin like that
if ya got a gazebo u could put it under there , id be up for entering
its just a thort

Anyone got/ getting the HKS S15 drift car; Having trouble with mine. The yellow and red paint is coming off the wheels :annoyed: It looks like its painted over the chrome plating, as soon as the wheels take a knock or some vibration off rough ground it all cracks and flakes off. I tried stripping the paint off and re-spraying them, which worked but the masking tape took the chrome off the rim of the wheel
My suggestion, get some other wheels for dicking around with if you wanna keep the advans looking nice. If not, try to touch them up with polycarbonate paint (it shouldn't crack), might be easier to use a brush than spray though.
It would seem the Advan wheels are going to be hard to get hold of at the minute.
Apart from that, it rules :D

Will try to get pics up soon. The HKS shell just needs painting flat red, everything else is done with stickers. Did mine with tamiya spray, red first, backed it up with white (red is slightly translucent) then finished it off with a bit more red to hide the white edges. Also masked off the headlights for these; http://www.teamyokomo.com/japan/newproducts/photo/sd-s15l_450.jpg
Should fit the S15 shell and look the mutts nuts! Already checked with the uk distributors but they're not over here yet... (If you hear anything about them Bren, I'll have at least 1 set :D )
Also, the nyloc wheel nuts don't lock very well, just had a wheel fall off :annoyed: Keep your eyes peeled.

Took a trip to my local clubs last indoor race, have invested in a set of carpet tyres and an S2000 bodyshell (won't matter so much if (when)it gets leathered) to race with :D
Oh yeah, if anyone's intending to race these cars, its a good idea to check rules and regulations with your local club before you buy all the bits and pieces, the motor I bought is illegal for racing :annoyed: another £27 down the drain

its cheaper than real cars
you dont have to pay to do it
and tyres last for ever
one draw back is batterys
10min each battery so if ya got loads of batterys you can go for a while

I think you can get them on a nitro chassis now, that'd last a bit longer (if you can get the bloody thing started in the first place...)

yeah you can buy them in nitro models but ive had a few

Still not got the AE86 finished, cut the rear bodyposts too short so it doesn't fit :annoyed:
re the JAE r/c drift circuit, I may be able to get some sponsorship for the event, prizes, raffle prizes etc from the r/c trade if its gonna be a pukka job.
Yokomo sponsor the real HKS Silvia, so may be able to do something.

They used to, but the S15's been replaced, so not sure if they're that involved anymore, but obviously its a bit of promotion for their models  I think some of the guys from Sumo Power have these too, if they aren't too busy they might be up for it...
Although I for one have never organised a race or anything, wouldn't really know where to start!

jae has change venue to peterborough international showground, and they have some big indoor barns that are flat in side so if we are goin to do a rc d1 race we should see if we can do it in there .

the car looks very d1 mate , that track lay out looks cool , all we need is some pace and how would me mark it out ?
speak to the BRCA ( British Radiocontrolled Car Association) for track widths and an idea of size of venue required. Jim Spencer ( his numbers on the site if I remember right) is a full size car nut ( has a kit car he races) and was instrumnetal in running the model car racing displays at Alexandra Palace, the Autosports shows at the NEC for a few years and also the ModelExpo at the NEC this year.
Also definitely be worth getting in touch with the r/c car mag Radio Race Car, they are always into covering new stuff like this. The editor is a really good mate of mine too, Chris Deakin, hes a top sort. They may be able to put you in touch with a local (to the venue) club who could run the event and lend you track marking stuff, PA equipment (essential to keep the spectators informed of whats goin on, and to make it more exciting for the drivers. Think D1, it has a big spectator presence and involvement.
Old Fire hose filled with sand (speak nicely to ya local fire officer for their holed hoses) is ideal for one off events as its easy to put in place and yet heavy enough not to be moved by the cars.

Do you think it would be worth putting up a poll or something to try and gauge interest (participants and spectators) in this? Maybe trying to do the same on other jap car/ drift forums?
Edit; Don that AE86 looks the dogs pods. Mine's finished now but still haven't got any bodyposts for it :annoyed: Its all white with a green flip in the paint, but dunno if it'll show up in a photo
good idea.
ideally a club ( if they were to run it) would want probably 8 cars in a heat, noirmally running for 5 mins per heat. As a drift display you could get away with less cars on track at any one time, say 4-5 maybe. With cell charge times, ya gonna need 35 -40 cars for continual running through the day to keep the public interest.
A local club or RRC mag would easily swell the ranks and get you some know how on the organisation as they do it week in week out.
If the venue is suitable, (decent surface and in the hub of the show, pref indoors too) I may be able to help point you in the right directions for people who can help and maybe prizes etc ( tends to make peolpe more interested inhaving a go then).
See what interest is there first tho :)
and Donrevey, ya cars cool mate

Just seen Trackstars thread on racechat-didn't realise this thread was kicking about-right, i know you gonna be talking to clubs etc, but i would advise that the easiest way to keep public attention would be to run 3 or 4 cars per race, with a specific rule that the cars must run on yokomo's drift tyre package. The only difference is you dont time the competitors. That way people who wanna drift can drift, and those that end up just wanting to race and end up quickest, keep it on the island, can do so, but with such little grip, they will be drifting to an extent. The only downside is having 4 cars out there out of control (to a degree) is possible crashes, and resultant damage.
Also, frequency clashes, you need to have someone organising runners in a way that your frequencies don't clash!!! As most of you aren't racers, you won't have spare crystals available.
Having drift judging will be difficult as most drivers will be drifting on a track for the first time, and while thing ragging one in the road is cool, controlling a slide in the confines of a track is another thing. Trust me on that!!! and if the surface is already slippy, a slick alone will drift well enough, and the yoko tyres may be nigh on uncontrollable!!! To keep it simple you could have demonstrations lasting about 5 mins each. (saves your motors from cooking, and batteries from dumping) Believe me, as a racer, I bet i'd be horrified at the state of some of your motors after a days running. (you should skim the comm and replace brushes every 10-15 runs maximum!!)
You could mark out a course with tape and cones. that way, at least if you get it wrong, you're not gonna hit and break anything. And having been a Yoko SD owner (what the drifter's based on) they do break!!! other than that, just tape down some ropes, or use drainpipes to lay a track. I would offer to help but prolly not gonna be about for JAE and it's not exactly local for me!!

Dunno if anyone on here's interested, but I am selling my Yokomo SD, (like I said, the car the Drift is based on) but ballraced, made with loverly Carbon Fibre and Titanium, and some graphite based plastics used.
if anyone is interested, mail me or PM me, am looking for 200 notes, and all you need is radio gear and a charger, and you're ready to go racing, or slap some drift tyres on and go drifting!!! all this cost about 600 notes and is all less than 18 months old
