Anyone know of any credit card co.'s that offer the option to specify a monthly payment, as opposed to a % of the amount owed?

Many thanks.

Think I understand what you mean, I have an egg card that I just let them take £400 a month from my bank account.

There are various options, a %age, an amount, total balance or minimum. Obviously the amount you specify must be above the minimum, but that only about 4-5 %.

Yeah, precisely what I meant Jezz :)

Basically, I won't get any particularly lethal limit wherever I apply, I'd just rather be able to say, right, take £250 a month, or so forth. Than leave the deductions in the lap of the gods with regards to whatever I spend ;)

Cheers mate, will have a mosey on down to the Egg site.

if you don't owe more than 250, they will only take what you do owe. I think!

Well, I doubt the credit card is gonna be required, now!

Just been in touch with my bank (Lloyds) who are generally fricken' useless. I *should* currently have £0 overdraft. I used to have a £300 overdraft, and it was becomming far too regular an occurence to reach that, and go beyond. So I asked for it to be taken off and a strict limit placed on my account - meaning once I'd spent my salary, I couldn't spend ANY more.

This was 5 months ago or so, and I've gone overdrawn every month since. Hoo-fricken'-Rah. Which means I've also been hammered for unarranged overdraft fees.

Before I got the SX I asked Lloyds for a loan, they said 'sod off' so I found a loan elsewhere. A week after I'd bought the car, Lloyds rang me and said 'hey, we can give you a loan now!' so I duly went to my branch to speak to the girl who'd rung me and said they could offer a better APR, to pay off the loan I'd taken with HFC. Upon arriving, after 5 minutes she told me that no, In fact I couldn't have a loan. D was not happy.

So this month, after receiving ANOTHER letter telling me I'm £176 overdrawn and that I'd be hit for £20, then another £20 for each day I spent another tenner, I snapped.

And rang them this morning, on the warpath.

Spoke to quite possibly, the only member of Lloyds TSB staff who has EVER been truly concerned and helpful, seriously, this girl should SO not been answering phones. Anyways, she checked my account. Lloyds had put a £100 overdraft on my current account, without even asking, or telling me they were doing so. Obviously my bank account credit score looked a right mess because of all the overdrawing, Etc. I'd asked (literally a month or so ago!) for my £300 o/d back and they'd said 'nuh huh!'..

Anyways, it's turns out I'm eligible for a £1400 overdraft, which quite conveniently they'd not bothered to tell me about. I've reinstated my original £300 for today, so this months alleged overdrawings are covered. My a/c manager is supposed to be ringing me this afternoon, at which point I intend to tell her just what I think of their customer support and care, and how they can shove their lack of communication and general incompetence up their own arses.

Then, I'm going to up my o/d limit to £1400, buy a Turbo Timer, get the mofo of a scratch removed from my car, buy 4 new tyres, then buy myself a new suit.

Hallelujah.

Was advised to ring and confirm the increased O/D before I let loose on my account manager..

So I rang the very same number as this morning.

"Hello, I rang this morning and was told that the system showed that I could have up to a £1400 limit, I set this as £300 prior to my account manager calling me, but she hasn't called yet, so I've reached a decision and would like to extend my o/d limit to the full allowed."

"I can't do that."

"why?"

"I'll put you through to an advisor."

At which point, some REALLY SNOTTY cow started telling me how I couldn't have the limit that ONLY AN HOUR OR SO AGO THEY'D TOLD ME I COULD HAVE!..

I told them again.

"I rang earlier regarding this mammoth and prolonged balls up with my account and the overdrafts, and I thought I was actually getting somewhere to sorting it out!.. The girl I spoke to, after taking all my security details etc, specified that the system, THE VERY SAME LLOYDS TSB SYSTEM YOU ARE USING RIGHT NOW, said that of all the facilities available to me and my account, a £1400 overdraft was possible. I would like to extend to that amount please, as I was advised earlier."

"That's wrong, whoever you spoke to shouldn't have told you that."

"Well tough crap, I was told it, and I want it."

"I can't allow that. The information you were told was wrong."

"I don't ruddy care! as far as I'm concerned I've been told a limit, I've been told the repayment rate (1.16% monthly, works out about £16 if I were to use the full £1400..) and I would like it! My account details can NOT have changed in the last hour!.."

"But the information you were given is wrong.."

"This is what she told me, she did all the security checks, and then ran my application through the little checking thing and it all came back okay."

"I can't do that." Ecet-fooken'-RAH..

Long and short of it, the snotty cow point blank REFUSED the £1400, she gave me £800 "to be reviewed in 3 months". Bloody jobsworths.

She asked for the name, and the call centre where I spoke to the lass, I said I'd forgotten, I don't want to get her in trouble because she was genuinely the nicest, and most concerned member of Lloyds TSB I've spoken to. This has got my back right up, and I'm generally in an incredibly poor, angry and destructive mood. I am not a happy chappy.

I told her as a parting comment that as far as I was concerned, I was entitled to the £1400 as regardless of which member of staff told me, and regardless how much control, access or authority they should've had, Lloyds TSB told me this, and therefore should fulfil it. She again tried to fob me off with that the information was wrong and I shouldn't have been told this, I told her I couldn't care less.

I'm still waiting for my account mananger to call me back from this morning.

Yep the man is dead right - if you do move go to First Direct and if you want a credit card, cahoot is best - 8.0% :)

First Direct have among other things:
Never refused to up my overdraft limit
Let me off of excess overdraft fees for various reasons
Put my overdraft up to £5000 so I could buy a car, while they arranged a loan
Sorted out a couple of dodgy debits taken from my account
Never put me on hold, transferred me, or not called me back
Are open 24hrs a day and send my a/c balance to my mobile daily

Good enough for you?? :) The best thing I did was changing from Barclays w*nk to First Direct :)

Have tried moving banks about a month ago, I had two banks turn me away because my 'credit' history with Lloyds was so piss poor.

Anyways, I just rang back again, initially with the intent of asking to be put through to the Cheltenham branch, to speak to my account manager.

And I was welcomed by... a Sunderland accent.. :D :D :D

"Hello, bizarre request, but do you know *name witheld from nasty West Midlands wench*?"

"Um. I do?"

"Is it possible to be put through to her, I spoke to her this morning."

"We can't transfer calls I'm afraid."

"Ah well, you'll do..."

And thus it began again..

I confirmed with her that the information the WMW had said was impossible to be available to the call centre staff... was. I confirmed that the amount *name witheld* had told me was correct.. it was.. She asked if I wanted her to run the application, which I said yeah, go for it.. (half expecting it to be declined...) and.. it was.

I have an overdraft of £1400, and should be expecting 4 letters in tommorrows post, each telling I've changed my limit and it's now different.

What a SHAMBLES!!! I hate Lloyds, but I don't really care anymore. There's no WAY I'm ever going to reach £1400 (well, within reason.) and to top it all off, I'm finally completely on top of the loan I took out for the car, AND for the crappy PC World interest free rollocks I had for a laptop a few years ago. Bonza!

Anyone thinking of joining Lloyds.. Don't, for your own sanity, Don't.

My account manager still hasn't called back, and she's going to get the bollocking of her life when she does.

 :o  :( ;) :p :D :D :D

FYI, First Direct were the first ones I went to, and was turned down by, due to the crap on my Lloyds a/c. My call to my account mananger has changed format and content now, rather than being concerned with overdrat charges I SHOULD'Nt have been charged (seeing as I'd asked for a strict limit, i.e no way in heck I should've been able to go overdrawn..) to a full blown complaint about their incompetence, and the miscommunication between call centres, myself, the bank itself, and the jobworths advisor they employ at the West Midlands call centre.

Anyone with Lloyds who ring the 0845 number, if you don't hear a Tyneside accent when they answer, put the damned phone down. You have been warned.

D

I was in a position much like yours but with Barclays. I kept quiet for a few months and opened another deposit account at Nat West and 1st Direct (Note Deposit / Savings account) I paid a small cash sum into each account every month, they did not bother with bank referances as deposit and small amounts, just id's

After a few more months both banks started sending me info about opening currents accounts etc. This I have now done with 1st Direct and found them brillant, on line banking or by phone. I still have an account at Nat West just in case.

Barclays were a little miffed when salary stopped going into account and treatened all sorts of nasties. I eventually offered to pay them about 75% of what I owed rather than court which they agreed to.

Well, my account manager finally rang back..

She too confirmed that the West Midlands wench didn't have a fricken' clue what she was on about.

She confirmed my o/d is £1400.

And... my Gold card arrives next week?
