Waiting to see how many cars are booked nearer the time
yeah i was thinking of the same... :) went to the bovingdon event last sun. i think i already lost the patient to wait for an hour and just 3 mins run. :( thinking of quit as i think it won't get much imporve in 1-2 yrs time in uk. mayb coz i got used to drive on track and at least 2 hrs on track in each event.
cheers

ok yea i see your point, we are more than aware of the queuing issues, as weve been stuck in queues too and its annoying..
every effort will be made to stop waiting times, wich at the mo is not going to be a problem due to the small numbers booked up.. the only limiting factor at the mo will be the amount of tyres you can fit in your car!!
There are many options available, such as 2 on the track at a time (if you both know each other and agree etc) and simple things like letting the next person so as the pervious one is just coming off...
so is this the reason that you guys havent booked?? because your waiting to see how many entrants there are???
not having a go at all just curious :) :)
so is this the reason that you guys havent booked?? because your waiting to see how many entrants there are??? Yeah, basically :indiff:
65 cars for a drift day just seems like a lot of cars. The wait when there are 30 is enough as it is. So really want to see how it full it gets before commiting as its a long drive for us as well.
i think well be lucky if theres 30 there at the mo, havent even got 10 booked up...
edit... 65 cars could be done easily IF it was organised really well with more than 1 track etc etc as there are always people changing tyres, having a break etc etc.... but i fully understand where your coming from... :) :)
but i think the limiting factor here will be the amount of tyres youve brought as your going to have loaaddss of track time :)
People tend to book late for drifting though, although Bovvy sold out quick.

I think Richie set the booking deadline at 10th Nov, which is tomorrow. I hope that can be changed though.
Cant understand the "waiting to see how many people are booked" attitude though. If everyone waits until the last moment then you still wont be any more informed than if you book now as we have about 10 cars at the moment but in a weeks time, who knows?
The track area we have to use is about 0.6 of a mile long, so I reckon maybe 3 or 4 cars on at a time should be ok as long as everyone keeps an eye out for the car ahead of them. As a comparison Bovingdon was (guestimating) no more than 0.25 miles long and worked fine with 2 cars on the track.
This will be bigger and faster than any of the drift practice days so far, 3 gear turns are a deffinate.
oh i sooo wanna go. Low funds tho :smash:

Oh crap, that sounds scary to learn on.
It should make for some excellent "spinning muppet" photos though. :D
Do we have tyre changing facilities? I've got loads of tyres but no spare wheels.
Arrrgh wAnt to Goo! :smash:

Yep, there will be a figure of 8 and a slalom of sort will be part of the main track.

As there are only about 7 drifters so yes the deadline can be extended. Please sign on ASAP though as I need to try and cover the cost of the event which isn't happening at present.
Cheers Richie
cheque is in the post
URGENT UPDATE
Due to Operational Training, (Iraq training), I have been told by the MOD that I can no longer run the event at Sculthorpe until next year. As you can imagine I was a bit pi55ed off to say the least and tried to make them reconsider due to my financial outlay, the charities concerned and all the organizing that goes on behind closed doors. I have been working tirelessly to get this event to go ahead at a different venue and after being rejected by 6 other Airfields I managed to meet up with a SQN Leader at Honington yesterday to make him aware of the predicament I am in. He is heading up a meeting on Monday night to discuss this event with the local council etc and I will have an answer by Tuesday morning. None of the cheques have been cashed in yet so no one is out of pocket. I am pretty certain that the event will go ahead but I just need to let you all know about the situation so it isn’t a last minute let down if that was the case. I did a Recce of Honington whilst I was there and the runway is immaculate, as good as I have seen. It is 9000ft long, nearly 2 miles. The event is about 30miles away from Sculthorpe but is very easy to find.
Directions from South: -
Get on A14 heading towards Bury St Edmunds. At Bury take the A134 turn off signed Thetford (North Bound). Stay on A134 for approx 7 miles and you will see the sign for RAF Honington. Turn right here and follow this road for approx 2 miles to the main gate. I will be here to tell you the way to the Runway.
Directions from North: -
Come down A1(M) towards Cambridge. At Junction 14, (Huntingdon) turn left onto the A14 signed Cambridge. Follow this until Bury St Edmunds. At Bury take the A134 turn off signed Thetford (North Bound). Stay on A134 for approx 7 miles and you will see the sign for RAF Honington. Turn right here and follow this road for approx 2 miles to the main gate. I will be here to tell you the way to the Runway.

Because of this it obviously means a change in the drift track layout I had planned but it should be pretty decent none the less. Have a look here http://uk.multimap.com/map/photo.cgi?client=public&X=588838&Y=275698&width=700&height=410&gride=591100.286788322&gridn=274543.799083877&srec=0&coordsys=gb&db=freegaz&pc=&zm=0&scale=5000&downright.x=64&downright.y=7 for the area Im hoping can be used. If you zoom out you'll see how big it is when you consider the main runway is 3000 yards long. Fingers crossed that the surface is OK.
I really didn’t want to be saying this guys but I really have drained every avenue now and unfortunately after being rejected by 18 Airfields and race tracks for various reasons I am going to have to call off the event for this Sunday. I am so disappointed for the charity concerned as on the auction night a bloke I work with bid £250 for me to take him up the runway so I am going to have to put this off until I organise another track day. They did however manage to raise £4657 for the little boy and Wooden spoon to split between them and also £1200 was raised for the Black Watch Regiment so not everything is this bad. Everyone who sent me a cheque can either have them posted back or I will destroy them, please let me know which you would prefer. Due to the cancellation I have 26, five U.S Gallon containers of Klotz 118octane race fuel sat in my garage along with octane booster and nitro power additives, so if anyone still needs fuel please let me know. I feel really bad for letting you all down but there really is nothing more I can do to make this event happen.
