View Full Version : S14 or R32 GTS-t for drifting?

Hello,

By next summer I may have just enough cash to buy a proper drift car to replace my BMW320 shed.
Both an early S14 and a R32 Skyline GTS-t fall within my budget, but which one will be better suited for drifting? I've had an S13 and my main problem with it was that the damn thing kept breaking down all the time, so which one of my two options is going to cope with drifting with the least mechanical problems?
If I do go for an S14 is there any difference in drift potential between the S14 and S14a?

Can anyone recommend a reliable source of information on the Skyline GTS? I'm looking for a site/forum as good as this one is for the 200SX.

Thanks,

Muppet.

the skyline is a lovely car but does have hicas (4 wheel steer). Best talk to jason as he has an r32 and is looking at ways of ditching the hi cas.

R32  skylines are stupidly easy to drift, soooo smooth, sooo nice. everyone has an S14, be different!

and a HICAS lock kit isn't much anyway

remember insurance on a skyline will be roughly double that of a 200sx cos they're all imports. I got quoted £4031 from Flux for one yesterday :wack: :indiff:
There's a mint 4 door 29k mile GTSt for 4 grand on the skyline owners club at the moment ;)

Cheers for the opinions everyone, I'm kind of leaning towards a Skyline at the moment. With a bit of welding and fabrication I'm sure I can make something to lock up the RWS with enough adjustment to get the toe in/out right.

Being 33 should help with the insurance (there has to be some advantage to getting old)

hicas is easy to lock, i think for the time being im going to pull the fuses out & put some washers in the hicas hydraulics to lock it, this should work fine..

Stillen do a hicas lock which is basically a plate that bolts in place of the hicas unit and the arms bolt to this :)

and that 4 door R32 on the skyline owers club is nice...... i saw that when i was looking and was tempted... theres something cool about drifting a 4 door car :) :)

Cheers Jason, do you have the web address for the Skyline owners club?

Was that your skyline at the drift final last week? With the gaffer tape rear end?

It would be better to dope a skyline engine in a 200sx :D yes

Which after a quick bit of sideways action yesterday is making me rethink my choice of car. It is soooooooo nice and seems so much better for drifting than the other cars I've driven.

You're a bad man, Smith, why did you let me have a go????? :D

Decisions, decisions
