The previous owners of my house managed to get quite a few paint spashes on an other wise good parquete (hope thats spelled right) flooring. Any idea on how to get it off other than by sanding the whole thing down? This would have to be the last resort as I've got a house full of animals.

If it's emulsion it will wash off with water. It takes a while but it will go eventually.
If it's gloss paint it's a bit more tricky and a lot depends on what the parquet flooring is finished with. You could use something like Nitromors if you're carefull and don't let it soak for long. If the parquet is finished with polyurethane, then ordinary Nitromors doesn't work very well (on polyurethane) so it would be much easier. Try it on a little hidden corner first so you know what's going to happen.
If the parquet is waxed or oiled it's much easier to refinish so you don't have to worry too much...
