View Full Version : 9th Oct - Blackpool Lights Convoy - Charity Jap Perf Evening
I've been asked to post the link below regarding a meet of Jap Perf cars and then a Police approved and aided convoy through the Blackpool lights, which is also being used to raise a bit of money for "give a child a chance".
Although it is Scooby originated, I am told that they have invited the Skyline's and Evo's plus us and any other Jap Perf cars they can find to invite.

If you are interesting in going can you please post below so we get an idea
Cheers,
Scottie.
maybe .. day before SantaPod .. might be doing last-minute tweaking ;)
could be up for this
you had better be prepared for the local cruise to thrash you all as you drive. down the prom . the ones that are old enough to drive that is . but seriously be aware of all the speed cameras we have here we have chuffin hundreds of em . preston new road, amy johnson way, squires gate lane ,and along the prom, basically everywhere. but if you are wanting loose women and excellent beer (you can drink 10pints and still be sober) blackpools the place. count me in
I thought the link said that there is police involvment, if it`s going to be a CHAV parade then I ain`t going

i have been servicing the fine (or not so fine!) women in this town for years, if you get hold of me or texican then accommodation will not be a problem, 24 hour bar the size of peru and a cracking night out will be in order. Sat 9th is my birthday so i will not be driving due to accute alcohol intoxication but i might grab a shotgun and gurn at all the flashing lights overhead whilst wondering what is the next bar i will be terrorising.
the more you drink the nicer they look!

One of the organisers has contacted me and asked to have this posted...
"Hi guys, chris here from scoobynet :)
I have some bad news for you. The event posted by Scottie is not a Jap Performance Car meet, it doesn't have a "police escort and we have not invited the Skyline and Evo owners clubs to it.
Therefore, it is a scooby only event. If you've got a scooby, your more than welcome to join in. If you havn't, your not, sorry.
The organiser, redwrx, has spent a great deal of his personal time and energy on this event, watching it grow over the last 2 years, from a small convoy of scoobys through the lights, to last years 40+. Now, he has organised over 70+ at the last count, got permission of the Police to "guide" us through the lights onto the prom, not escort, and been in talks with Blackpool council and Halfords for use of the carpark.
If you want to come down and watch, you are more than welcome, it will be an amazing sight, plus we'll raise some extra cash off you for the charity redwrx has chosen, but you can't take part in our convoy.
Thats not to say you couldn't convoy after us, but you wont get the same level of treatment off the local police, and would probably get split up at the lights.
I hope you all can appreciate the time and effort that has gone into this, and other scooby events, like the NBO.
Please keep it scooby, not jap performance.
Thanks for your time,
chris."

Awww, dont be like that.;) If we had carefully arranged an event we wouldnt want it potentially spoiled by having all and sundry turn up.

except maybe if it was the XR2i owners club turned up at the Pod same day as us, I'm sure they'd be most welcome :D
Maybe as a club we should arrange something similar to this in aid of charity?
i must admit it would be something else to see "only 70 odd" scoobies one 1 street. But i do believe cruiseblackpool or is it crecheblackpool ? were going to tag along novas and corsas saxos and other such exotica in modest amounts.
Big thanks to stevecarter200 for posting up for me, I couldn't get my registration email, and he has kindly done that too.
Hope you guys don't take it the wrong way, but like steve says, if you had organised a SXOC event, and had it gate crashed, you'd be pretty miffed :)
I think its best to leave jap performance car meets to the pros, and just have our respective clubs organize there own thing.
If you've posted this thread anywhere else, then could you please let people know that it is going to be a scooby only event?
Big thanks guys,
chris.
It would have been nice to pop along as I am just down the road and one of your convoy "routes", dont think ill bother now :)
Shame, but I see the reasons why, not going now tho, maybe next year with some organisation...

The S2000 brigade had an "Unofficial" tour of the lights and it was a load of fun.Tops down and fancy dress. I met a load of guys on a Mini cooper meet through the lights and they were great. In saying that there were only a few cars in both cases. You can't do much travelling at 1 MPH though. That said you would always get split up going through the lights unless you are escorted and it's nice to see load of performance cars together. Look on the bright side - it doesnt do your clutch any good :D

I'm a bit p***ed off by you accusing us of gatecrashing
We where invited by people from your board, in an attempt to boost up some numbers for this event, and all the details in the first post came from your members.
If you are now withdrawing the invite that is understood, but please organise your own house before accusing us of gatecrashing.
Easy chaps.
It's not worded aggressively and Chris is pointing out that it shouldn't have been opened up to the general public.
And, at the end of the day, big deal...
Aye, was polite about it, no need to rant.
He was fairly polite about it, but if as a club we where short on numbers for an event, and then invited a few others to join us (and specifically asked to be posted about in the regional section for the club), then I would not expect us to withdraw the offer from people who had already agreed once we had decent numbers ourselves.
I just felt it was a little unfair to be accused of gatecrashing when we where specifically invited by members of that board, some of whom are friends with a few of us and we have helped each other out in the past. End of matter.
Anyway, perhaps we could organise a similar event for all the Jap Cars who turn up at Mascrat every month, that would make a spectacular convoy as well.
I would have thought the more for a charity event the better, but apparently not ;)
Im sure we can sort something with similar with Japmeets :)
It's funny, but I have the feeling that if some people from this club were organising a fun & public event in aid of charity, we wouldn't just keep it all to ourselves. And I don't feel that we would assume that a slow-moving convoy of one type of car would be fascinating, either.
If it's for charity - surely the more the merrier? If it's for the interest, or the spectacle, then you need more than a single-file train of fugly blue saloons with bonnet scoops. It's not the Imprezas that I seek out, at Jap car events. Maybe the local Blackpool chavs will be impressed, huh? ;)

aye, a line of imprezas isn't all that inspiring! but all for a good cause. they could have been concerned about logistics too, it would need a fair bit of organising to sort all the different clubs out and still keep things running smoothly.
'sxoc cruise down the prom' - i reckon so :)
