View Full Version : Anyone with Adrian Flux
I am wondering if im the only one here or if everyone was told the same?
When i was signing up for insurance a few months ago, i went round a good few to get the best deal as most peeps do.
Anyway the thing that swung it for me (except the fact that they were a bit cheaper) was that when i spoke to the guy at Adrian Flux, he told me that in the event of the car being a total loss )i.e. a wright off, stolen or burnt out) the car would be replaced and all modifications would be replaced like for like.
Was anyone else told this??
I just phoned them to see what was happening about my claim from 6 weeks ago, and the girl on the phone said we are waiting for the insurance company to interview u ( ) and then they will be looking at making u an offer.
I say what do u mean an offer? i was told that i would have the car replaced and the modifications added like for like.
She says NO!!!! We will work out the value of the car and the mods may add to that value, but they definately wont be replaced like for like.

Has anyone else had similar dealings with these people?
And if so what was the outcome?
Kev
kev mate, i feel for you:o . it is a situation that would give me nightmares, i think unless you get these companies to put it in writing, it really does'nt mean a thing. they take advantage of the fact its a legal obligation you have to have insurance and shaft you whenever they can. bloody bastards.

Sorry m8, it's a bit late now, but what you need to do is get an agreed value (you can only do this fully comp) this is basically what it sounds like, you send em some photo's of your car and what you recon it's worth, and some monkey who knows sweet FA about cars decides if your right.
I had this with my mini, because I asked what i would get if it was written of, and I was told about £400:eek: so I got an agreed value, and if I crashed it (which i did'nt) I would have got about £4500.
hope u get wat ur after m8 :)
This may sound strange, but Max Power etc. always recommended the FLUX for cheap insurance for modified cars, so I duly called them sometime last year about it, and lo-and-behold they wouldn't insure a 200sx for me if it was lowered!! ??
Was told they would not insure me on a car "like that" if it was lowered..
and lets face facts here, you cant get much lower than andy, erm his car i meant, obviously.:D ;) :D

I'm with them and I recently found out that I didn't have the "uninsured Loss recovery" srevice I should have on my policy, but I DO have some sort of payment protection policy to cover my monthly payments!!! When I questioned this, I was told that it was complusory and it would have been on the Direct Debit I signed when I took out the policy.
Point 1) They took the first payment from my bank BEFORE (all be it only 1 day) my policy even started it's 2nd term! HOW?
Point 2) I honestly don't remember signing the DD mandate (I may well have, but don't remember). So I asked for a copy of it ( the actual one with MY sig on it), 3 weeks ago now and I still don't have it.
There may be troubles ahead..........
TTT
Just cos im still wondering if i was the only one who was told that the mods would be replaced if anything happened?
Anyone?
So if Mr Flex and his merry helpers aren't to be trusted, who else's happy to cover modded cars without charging the earth? :)

Yeah, sorry.
Kev, I questioned why I should tell them I'd put a new Zorst and dump valve etc on, as the BOV wouldn't actually make it any more nickable, or make it go faster. I asked if I declared the items and the car was stolen or written off etc would they pay out for those mods.
The answer was YES.

The "interview" bit is where they'll send a (bas'''d) loss adjuster to your house to "discuss" your loss. Which basically means he'll decide for himself whether your claim is genuine.
It is no good harping on to him about the value of the car - he wont care, he's just interested in whether your claim is genuine ie. you havent stashed the motor in a mates garage and claiming its been robbed.
However, once the LA is happy that your up front then a "claims assessor" (usually some spotty underqualified - should have been employed at Maccies - twonk) will decide on a figure to offer you. If he comes back with something lame then all you do is put your objections in writing and back it up with copies of the glasses guide, similar cars in autotrader, original purchase receipt, service history and receipts - that sort of thing.
To be honest, if you're with a reputable insurance co (think Flux usually use Royal Sun Alliance - who are pretty good) you should be able to sway the spotty twonk down there into upping the offer. But dont expect any real help from your broker, once theyve put you in touch with the insurers direct - they wont wana know!
If you do need any sort of advice, I'm a broker myself - i'll help you out mate
Thanks arry, i will keep that in mind mate:)

Kev, I've just called them on behalf of the SXOC to "clarify a few conflicting stories our members have been told :D" and was told by ALLISON (after she spoke to the claims dept) that:
If you have a Stainless zorst that gets damaged, they'll pay out for that zorst to be replaced.
If the car is a total write off for some reason, they'll pay out market value for the car and if you choose to buy another one the same, they'll pay out the money you need to replace the exact same items that you lost on the old car, providing they were declared on your policy.
Hope this helps you out mate.
That hepls out imensely (?) Dan :)
Cheers mate thats very much appreciated.
And excellent news cos of course ill be buying another 200sx and all mods were declared.
So if they stick to their word, i will be a happy man :)
Again, Dan i really appreciate u doing that, was worth much more than the £15 membership for that alone mate.

***********UPDATE****************
They finally phoned me today, after me chasin them all last week:mad:
Anyway, basically they said we are offering u ££££.
I said ok, but how much will u then give me to pay for the cost of the mods?
NOUT MORE!!!!
I say "HUH?"
Basically i had a print out of wat u had posted above and read it out to the girly (dawn btw).
At the end of it, she said that allison was wrong, i had been mis-informed.
They said there was no point in me rejecting the offer as it was what i had stated the value of the car to be!
I said yes but if u add a £1k set of alloys it only increases the value of the car by £500 if that.
So it will cost me more than the value of the car to replace all the mods.
Her suggestion was.......................
"dont buy them brand new then"

I think the offer is ok, i was just expecting more.
Will be on the lookout for cheap bits now mefinks.
Kev
kev
dont accept the first offer. Instead show them any receipts/invoices/service history you can find, together with the original purchase receipt for the car.
Couple that with any adverts you can find in Autotrader etc for cars in similar condition and then barter their offer up by as much as you feel you can get away with. As long as youre not desperate for the cash you can prob increase the offer by around 10-15% in this way.
If they dont at least consider the evidence you have produced to them threaten the insurance ombudsman on your insurance company. If its not their fault but the brokers that are being stubborn then threaten GISC(general insurance standards council) action. If you write a letter to GISC they have to turn your complaint around and forward it to the broker within 7 days. The broker then has 5 working days to reply and 21 days after that to bring the matter to a satisfactory conclusion. And believe me nothing scares the pants off a broker more than a GISC enquiry.
Might well be worth your time mate and i wish you luck!
Aaron
Thanks for the reply Arry, but unfortunately i am pretty desperate for money, so i will have to take it. (work probs, or lack thereof)
Incidentally (?) any idea how long it will take them to get the dosh to me?
The girl said that as i had insured the car for x amount, the insurance would not pay any more than that.
I said i didnt insure it for that amount, that was just wat i thought it was worth.
She said, same thing.
This post was really more to serve as a warning to anyone gonna take up with them, to not be blinded by their BS on the phone.
It took them almost 3 months to get back to me with an offer btw and they charged me twice for insuring another car in that time!!
Kev
kev
once youve accepted the offer - i take it the keys/V5/mot are all submitted already? - you should have a cheque within 2 weeks, but id get the number for your insurance co's claim handler and a claim ref from your brokers and chase em every other day just in case. Dont just keep contacting the broker cos theyll fob you off.
When a car gets stolen the insurers usually wait 6-7 weeks before making an offer, so 3 months is not uncommon but a touch excessive.
The so called "technicians" on the fones are just overhyped sales pitchers and they'll tell you anything to sell you a policy unfortunately - most are on commission based pay!
Sorry you've got a bit buggered by us in the industry mate, but rest assured we aint all like it.
See ya

I've just spoken to them today to declare my mods, and they told me that under no circumstances, will they add the cost of ur modifications onto a payout, for crash or theft:(
Apparently the increased premium (in the case of parts that do not increase performance) is for the sole reason of it being more attractive to thiefs. How the feck they can justify the amount that I was just charged for that, I do not know :(

Got the same response from Admiral. Insurance went up another £150 this year and all I've done is fit new wheels and suspension. My wife is currently trying to get a quote through Greenlight for her modified car and they look pretty promising - will replace like for like, agree values etc. My cobra is insured through Flux on a (supposedly) agreed value classic car policy - hope to god I never have to make a claim!

It may be a bit late, but I'd still go gunning for them if I were you:mad:
Yeah it is just a tad late Dan, the cheque arrived this morning and its in the bank now.
But i think a bigger deal should be made of this to other peeps, at least on this BB, cos fatty was told that they wont, but i along with most peeps(including u) was told they would.

Damn right.
************update no2**************
Bit of background, when 200 was stolen, i asked insurance to be switched to rover 214.
Rover price = less than a tenth of 200sx
Price= another £42
I asked y, and was told "ur insurers are not competitive on standard vehicles" "but when u get another 200s or ur vehicle is returned, u will be refunded this money".
Was a tad annoyed but thought, oh well, as long as i get the doe back..........
Anyway, after getting another 200sx i phoned them up (around a month ago) and said to transfer insurance back.
AF said...... "that will be another £80+"

Hows that i ask, a tad
"Oh, sorry sir, thats minus a discount of £70ish leaving £17"
I say y cos im expecting money back?
Girly is very ratty as seem to be quite a few of them, unless im getting the same one all the time.
After a bit of humming and hawing comes back with "admin charge"
I think ok tis only £17 and an admin charge is fact of life.
Anyway..................
Got a letter in last monday saying i owe them £85 and if i dont pay it, i will have my policy cancelled.

I phone them up.
Girl put me on hold for 5-10 mins while reading notes bout me.
Comes back and says "i dont know how this has happened, but ill get it sorted out and ill phone u back today".
Did she phone??????????
NOPE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So on thu i phone again.
Put on hold for 5-10mins again for girl to read notes.
Comes on and says "i dunno y uve been told what u have, but its wrong, and u owe us £85"
I say explain
she says "u were discounted the money on the rover cos it was a cheaper policy, and now ur back to a 200sx u have to pay more"
me "I WAS NOT GIVEN MONEY BACK FOR THE ROVER, I WAS CHARGED EXTRA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Girl "hmm oh yeah so u were, that was a mistake, it was a cheaper policy"
Me "so i can expect that to be discounted then?"
girl "no, cos we have already discounted u for the change to the rover"
me "   u just agreed that i was charged extra for it, not discounted"
girl "yes, but it was discounted after that"
me "when? and if thats the case, y havent i recieved any money?"
girl "it was discounted on ur account"
BUT I NEVER BLOODY GOT ANY DISCOUNT!!!!
girl "errrrrrr, well my supervisor has been standing over me throughout this conversation and he agrees with me"
Me "PUT HIM ON THEN!!!!!!"
girl "oh, he has just popped out"
If this wasnt so bloody serious, it would be a comedy skit!
Girl "what i will do is when my supervisor comes back, ill get him to look over the account with me as there are so many notes on it which make no sense (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!), and i will phone u back!, it may be 2moro though"
Me "fine, no problem."
can u guess...........................
CORRECT
NO FECKIN PHONE CALL:mad:
Instead, today i get a recorded delivery letter Saying.........................
Correct, i owe them £85 and my policy will now be cancelled on the 7th of june.
I am ever so slightly annoyed as im sure u can tell.......
Please heed this as a warning peeps!
Arry? do u think its worth me taking this to the ombudsman?
And do u think i should push the issue of this thread, the payment of mods?
Kev
Kev
Yes i do mate, and i would also inform the GISC - cos that way they have to reply to your correspondence within 5 working days - moves things along quickly.
I would assume that they are trying to knock you whats known as "broker charges". GISC rules state that the broker must inform you of ANY B/C's made against your policy, including legal expenses cover, admin/handling fees. (quick point, my mate is with AF and he got his rnl thro the other day - told him to ring em and tell em he had a quote £90 cheaper, they dropped £90 off the price in 5 secs flat - makes you wonder what kind of charges theyve got to play with). Ask them to disclose these to you, and ask why you were not made aware of them when taking out your policy. Tell the GISC exactly what they have told you, if poss get em to fax it to you. Make notes of exactly who you speak to inc surnames.
Insurance co's do sometimes make "nonsense additional premiums", ie when deleting a wife from the policy sometimes a premium will increase as apposed to go down - cos they apply a discount for insured and spouse pols. But if you were quoted an increase to switch to the rover (which i cannot understand for the life of me!!!) then when you switch back to the original car youre original premium should apply. Therefore all you would have pay is broker charges for the substitution (again, they must tell you how much). The £42 should be pro-rata'd against the length of time the rover was on cover, and a return of premium should be made of whatever that amount is.
As a guide we make a £30 broker policy charge, £15 legal expenses charge and £10 substitution of vehicle charge and i think all of these are reasonable - and are always disclosed to clients.
give em hell mate, youve had a right bum deal there
Any other probs come back to me mate
Cheers Arry, i will do mate.
Thanks for the advice.
Needless to say i phoned them again today and was told the girl was on lunch and would phone back at 2pm.
Phoned again at 4pm and was told she would phone me back b4 5:30pm
.................................................. ..
Im gonna give em hell!!!!!!!!!!!
Kev
I've found ATS Insurance to be the cheapest for the past three years, esp if you are a bit younger too. !st 10% increase in bhp seem not to bother them either. Think they did like for like replacements too as long as the value of the mod you declare is the cost to replace, e.g set of wheels and tyres.000000000 Oops sat on keyboard.
