I had my camera running in my car for UKD1 Round 4 and it got some great footage. I've compiled it into a sort of brief demonstration of drifting techniques and mistakes.

Comments etc welcome as usual.

Thats excellent mate - really, really good and helpful as well

Out of interest, I guess the Elise has LSD, right??

I will be watching and memorising, and no doubt spinning my S12 before long :wack:

Really good video. Although bad as I now want to be out there driving Silverstone again :( :D

:notworthy That is awsome :)

Have to sort my life out and give this a go soon.

Does anyone here use the standard LSD in the s14a to drift with, I know i have to change to a proper one at some point.

Not at all mate - the standard one is very good :)

Ben's right - no LSD in a standard Elise. In fact, virtually no modified Elises have an LSD either.

Think it depends on the car. Some at Silverstone look good but mine sucks really bad. I lauchned it out a junction dropping the clutch last night (in the wet) and it still only span up the inside wheel.

Gutted :wack:

With a normal (or viscous) diff you really just drive around it, dump the clutch and more than likely the inside wheel will just spin up, creep up on it by slipping the clutch and winding the power in and you should even up the weight balance on the car a bit more and break traction on both wheels.

Possibly....

I drifted on an open diff for a long time so the viscous diff was OK for me, but it does hamper my consistency and it is ultimately a bit crap. It feels like a good diff at times, then oh now I have an open diff, but to be fair I wouldn't really complain and I think with coilovers evening out the weight shift of the car it would work fine. Not the BEST but it won't stop you from drifting well, not by any stretch of the imagination. :)

See the bit I find difficult is coming from an S13 with LSD to an S12 with an open diff - it just doesnt feel "right" once the back end is out - more momentum doing it than power. When the momentum runs out its straight back in line again :(

Very true, it is really just momentum except for some corners. For example, I could nail luffield with tons of smoke, big angle, etc with an open diff, because the speed combined with the inside wheel doing a million miles an hour just made the car lose traction. Now with the welded diff, I can nail priory and brooklands, but I don't have the speed or power to kick out properly at luffield, well, not with my current skill level anyway.

Weld up the S12s diff mate, they're excellent. :D The only problem is they seem to be fairly limited on available steering lock, when I drove the white one at andover I was hitting the lock stops all the time.

I use the Std Diff at the moment. I think you need to know how to drive before you spend all that dough on a diff... Theres more to improve before that - like suspension etc...

You are right though - you need to sort your life out and come have a go... I think I may have persuaded Ben (Taylor) to have a go some time soon ;)

Are coilovers the way forward then?

Was thinking about uprating the ARBs after I saw photos of how much the car rolls in bends.

When is the next practice session, if I can make it I'll come along :)

Ive got a set of S/Hand Tein HRs coming. They'll do for now :) Non adjustable damping though  :)

ARBs are an option, but Id rather run with stiffer corners, rather than just ARBs :)

Next practice is at Heyford 25th September.

Forgive my ignorance but where is Heyford?

Overstepped my 6GB transfer limit last month. Bandwidth allowance is back to normal now though - the video is available again.

i will send you the outside footage, honest!

No rush mate :)

I'll probably use the outside footage in a future video rather than splice it back into that one now, but it'll definately be useful somewhere. I intend to do a sort of instructional video at some point that'll probably use new footage, inside and outside footage.
